Athletic.Talented.Intelligent. These are just a few words that describe me.They are what my everyday experiences and actions represent in my life. But there is one word that describes me a little bit more. Because of the experiences I have had in my life so far, it is clear to see that I am optimistic. Some of the experiences I have had have been good changes that have led me to be optimistic and are also similar to the giver. For example, in The Giver, Jonas’s mom was being optimistic because she assured, “ There will be changes. Good changes though, his mother pointed out.” (22). This quote explains why the mother is optimistic because she thinks that when changes happen they will be good changes even though they haven't happened yet. Therefore I can relate to this quote because in second grade when my family moved, I knew that the changes that had to happen are going to be great. I knew that making new friends at school and living in a bigger better house would be good changes. In addition to optimistic changes, this article talks about the experiences that led her to being optimistic. In the article Lost and Found, the main characters actions led her to be optimistic because she,” Decided to completely reorganize and revamp [her] room so that all the books, belts, and …show more content…
baskets were in their right place. It was like finding the missing pieces to the puzzle.”(3). In the same way me and the main character in this article are are alike because we’re both optimistic about our filthy rooms. When it becomes dirty I am hopeful that I can clean my room so that I can live and sleep in a better environment each day. Also I can contrast from the main character because she is a girl and she loses things that means a lot to her meanwhile I keep everything that has meaning. The main character is optimistic because she is confident and hopeful that she will clean her room and find all the lost and memorable items that have been swallowed up by her room. Even though articles and short stories are two different things, these two both find something about yourself that's optimistic.
In The Life Song of a Child, the narrator wrote an optimistic life lesson at the end of the story that challenged the readers to,” Keep singing and find [their] way home.”(1). In this quote the narrator did a good job of expressing her optimistic side because she’s hopeful that everyone will find their song and their song will help throughout their whole life time. This quote really connects to my life because in my life I have a song. That song is running, which is the most important part in my life and it will always help me get through obstacles challenges in my
life. In conclusion to my essay the experiences that I have conquered in my life has shaped and formed me into being optimistic. Just like Jonas's mom and the main character in Lost and Found. Being optimistic has changed my life to be more enjoyable than what it was when I wasn't optimistic. Therefore In everyone's lifetime people will have to come face to face with experiences and challenges that will change them into the person they are today just like I have.
... sets in the book is optimistic. Kerman enforces the idea that things happen for a reason, and a person will learn and benefit from good or bad things happening in his or her life.
As Jonas reached the top of the hill, the chill seemed to grow from his bones. Jonas and Gabe climbed onto the red sled from the memory. He clutched Gabe closer as the sled gained speed and the trees flew by. A few feet from the base of the snowy hill, the sled broke on impact with a rock. Jonas staggered out of the snow, trying to rub warmth into the newchild, who had begun to shiver violently.
The majority of children cannot wait to become a grown up. Too late they realize that growing older isn’t as glamourous as they thought. People are always taught to learn from our mistakes, but what if some mistakes take too long to realize? Many people learn life’s lessons too late. Children and adults are taught through fairy tales, songs, books, television shows, and movies lessons on how to live life and avoid mistakes. Songs and music are important because they connect to emotions. They project images into people’s minds through the lyrics, and the song itself can have a special meaning and emotion to different people.
The book The Giver is about a Boy named Jonas who lives in a community. He lives with his little sister Lily and his mom and dad. He is 11 years old. In the beginning he tries describing the way he feels. He uses frightened but then realizes that frightened isn’t the right word to use. He says that frightened was the way he felt when an aircraft flew over the community after he knew that no aircrafts can fly over them. As he was at dinner with his family, they were sharing their feelings from that day. Lily describes her feelings as “very angry”. She was angry because a visitor boy that was at her daycare was cutting everyone in line for the slide. Then her father explains to her that maybe the little boy didn’t know that the slide had rules.
In life, it is important to be optimistic, and see the glass as half full. Being optimistic means to look at things in a positive way. And it is important to stay optimistic in life. Being an optimist can also be thought of as having lots of hope for the future. Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic when other things in your life are going wrong. But, you have to look past the negatives, and try to see the best in things and keep hope. Penelope and I are both similar because we both stay optimistic in life.
The essential thing to overcoming adversity is the ability to cause change in yourself and others. In the book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, Jonas is singled out after he isn’t chosen during the Ceremony of Twelve. He has to learn to overcome the pain of being The Receiver of Memory. He also has to face the truth and discover who his real allies are. This helps him to become a changemaker because he grows. He grows by using the pain to become stronger mentally and physically. Ultimately, Lowry teaches us that to make a change, you must display curiosity and determination.
In The Giver, Gabriel symbolizes hope. For example, Gabe has different eyes like Jonas and the Giver. Lily states, “‘And he has funny eyes like yours, Jonas’”(25). They have the same eyes, so that means there was a genetic engineering failure, and Gabe can see beyond like Jonas. That’s why Gabe can receive. Lois Lowry narrated, “He was not aware of giving the memory...it was sliding through his hand into the being of the newchild”(147). Everyone else in The Giver, besides Jonas and the Giver, don’t have feelings of love. They live in a world without pain, but at the cost of their individuality and freedom. Gabe gives Jonas hope for a better community, and life.
The book The Giver is a dystopian book because you don’t get to make any of your own decisions. You would never know the truth about release. You would never experience life how you should experience it. The world may seem perfect from someone’s view inside the community, but from the outside it is harsh and horrible. Their world could be turned into a utopia eventually, but as of right know it is a

In Dystopian Literature, characters prefer to get curious a lot of times for many reasons. Though do we know why they do get curious? Well yes we do, In The Giver by Lois Lowry, the main character Jonas, who is 12-year-old get’s a job assigned, but he doesn’t. Dickie, from Examination Day by Henry Slesar, is 12 and has to take an exam so the government can see how smart he is, but his IQ is high and he is killed by the government Throughout the story Dickie was very
...I think the author chose to change the tone so she could show the readers that people can change. Also to show the readers the effect simple things or situations can have on others.
We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others” (97). In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, no one has seen a rainbow after a storm, no one knew what colors were; what choosing was; what it meant to be an individual. Everyone lived in complete Sameness, and never learned what it meant to be an individual. By eliminating as much self expression as possible in Sameness and society, Jonas's community has rejected the individuality of a society where people are free to move society forward. In The Giver individuality is represented by colors, memories, and pale eyes.
Modern day society is full of color and emotions and decisions. Imagine a world without them. In the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, this is Jonas’ reality.
Life isn’t like the movies, life is hard, each day, we change, we grow, we go through good times, we go through bad times everything we do in our lives, whether it be good or bad defines us. It makes us who we are, to the individuals we grow to become. There have been times in my life that have been amazing, but there has been struggle, it’s been a long road. I’ve had many up’s and down in my education and in my personal life. All these endeavors and challenges have made me work harder, know my worth, plan my dreams, set my goals and what I need to inspire to accomplish to make these dreams a reality, to the path and to the decisions that made me who I am today to what I want for my future.
The world is made up of optimist and pessimists, and the survival of human beings and our well-being requires a balance between optimism and pessimism. Disproportionate pessimism makes life unbearable; however, too much optimism can advance to dangerously hazardous behaviors. The Optimism and pessimism approach is expecting a positive or negative future outcome, a recognizable way of reasoning is best conceptualized as continuity with many amounts of optimism and pessimism. Successful living requires a great balance between optimism and pessimism. Too much optimism may embolden one to take uncalculated risks that will lead to inadvertent and reckless behaviors, which may conclude in a catastrophe. On the contrary, worrying too much about
