Healthy plants give the impression of a well-kept home, adding a genuine freshness to the air. Plants also provide a second value besides appearance, some house plants are efficient purifiers. Select the location in your home and place a few house plant purifiers that are easy to maintain; climbing vines of the ivy, peace lily, Boston fern, and the lady palm, a small tree version. 3. Ocean If there’s an ocean located near your home, just open the windows. If you’re further away from the natural ocean breezes, there are ways to recreate the scent and the mood for the open house. There are a number of air fresheners on the market from candles to diffusers used for releasing whiffs of the ocean to fill a home. You can actually add these scents to any room by putting few drops of scented oils on a cotton ball, tucking them away in a corner, shelf or hidden location. 4.

“‘They score! Henderson has scored for Canada!’” Foster Hewitt wordlessly described” (Pelletier) when Paul Henderson scored the series-winning goal. This allowed Canada to win the 1972 Summit Series, a moment that no one would ever forget since it all happened during the climax of the Cold War. Prior to this, the Soviets had won the previous three Olympic gold metals since Canada could not use its NHL players. Thus, this provided Canada with the chance to play hockey against the USSR using its best players. This raised the question: if Canada were able to send its best players, would it still be enough to beat the Soviets? Everyone in Canada was certain that the Soviets would not win a single game, but little did they know they underestimated the extent of the Soviets abilities. Tied in the last few minutes of game eight, Canada had to score or they would lose the series. However, when Paul Henderson scored the game-winning goal, never before had a single sporting event meant so much to Canadians. Therefore, Paul Henderson’s goal is a defining moment for Canada in the twentieth century becauseit provided Canada with the opportunity to evolve hockey, proved that Canada and our democratic society were superior to the USSR and their communist society, and brought citizens together to unify Canada as a nation.
“Man is condemned to be free” (Sartre, 1957). Believing in existentialism entails thinking that the universe is chaos and nothing has a destiny. In “Existentialism and Human Emotions”, Sartre believed that men and women are condemned to be free because the choices they make are the only input for their character. Whether a person acts in good or bad faith is entirely up to them, and their choices define them. In the short story “The Guest” there are few characters to outline where on the spectrum of existentialism that one can exist. The main characters in the short story “The Guest” displays many key points from the book “Existentialism and Human Emotions”.
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
The California drought has been extremely harmful to the states’ air quality. Since 2012, California has seen the worst drought conditions in 1,200 years and it is severely affecting air quality (California’s drought, 2015). As of 2015, the cities of Hanford, Merced, Modesto, Fresno, Yuba City, Lancaster-Palmdale, Chico, Sacramento, and Bakersfield have been experiencing exceptional drought coverage (Pestano, 2015). California has a Mediterranean climate, which is a concentrated rainy period several months of the year and warm to hot temperatures the remaining of the year. For the past four years, California’s rainfall has been below average, which causes PM2.5 levels to go
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view – until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Harper Lee identifies many charcters in the beginning of this book. She was very descriptive of all the characters in the beginning of the book. Each character was described from Scout’s point of view. Throughout the book, Lee lets the reader see some of the characters in their natural environments. They are still written through Scout’s eyes, but instead of passing by them on the sidewalk, Scout is in their home sitting with them, or hearing personal stories about them. Three of these characters that Scout points out specifically are Jem Finch, Aunt Alexandra, and Tom Robinson.
The films The Searchers and Avatar both make use of the master narratives of regulating social order and disorder. One is used as a way to reinforce this narrative, while the latter is shaped more towards critiquing the overall of ideal of the American social order. The struggle presented by an external threats in both films give the opportunity of interpreting and contrasting the master narrative and the effects that can come from imbalances in social orders.
“I'm a romantic; a sentimental person thinks things will last, a romantic person hopes against hope that they won't.” F. Scott Fitzgerald said this and it is very apparent that he feels this way in The Great Gatsby. In this novel filled with the experiences of a group of supercilious, rich, white people, Fitzgerald shows this with the many symbols he uses throughout the novel. Among the most arresting are the Green Light at the end of the Buchanan’s dock, which Gatsby envies for, the color white, which deceives readers with Daisy’s deceitful beauty, and the Eyes of T.J. Eckleburg, which sees all wrong done by the characters.
The poem “ Barbie Doll” discusses, how society has a hold on individual's lives, especially on women. It is compelling the women to stop being themselves, and become somebody else in order to please the society. We always have to keep society in our consideration, before doing anything because the society in which we are living, always judge us on trivial things. Society tells us how to dress up and act, and have to look a certain way to be accepted. It is so sad to see that this poem, was written in 1973 by Marge Piercy, but even now we realize that nothing has changed and same barrier are still ruling our lives.
Theater 180 addressed the quest question of how do people understand and engage in community life? Through this class I’ve gained a better understanding of what civic engagement is. At the start of this semester I had very minimal knowledge about civic engagement. As far as I knew civic engagement was just volunteering but nothing much beyond that. With this class I have learned that civic engagement is much more than just volunteer work.
Labor Day is not like many other U.S. holidays. It is a celebration without specific traditions, like family dinners or prayers. For most people, Labor Day just marks the last weekend of summer and the start of a new school year.
Throughout the semester, we have learned how different communities require different needs. When understanding each community, and their strengths and weaknesses, the nurses of the community can help out and give the community what they need. When choosing a community to research, the chosen zip code was 85206, which is part of Mesa, Arizona. In this essay, the author will discuss the social determinants in the chosen community.
“Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends (Robot check).” A place becomes a home for me when I am around all the things that I enjoy and love. For example, when I am around everyone that I love, I enjoy a peaceful environment and the beautiful landscapes around me. The interpretation of home for me is not a physical thing that I see or that I can remember or even certain thoughts that I can relate, but it is a sensation that overcomes me when I envision being in the comfort of my own home. However, I know that this is a feeling that is calming to my soul and it quietly reassures me that I genuinely belong in a place where I can be free from people constantly judging me.
Oceans generate ½ the oxygen people breath. Air pollution is responsible for 33% of the toxic contaminants that end up in oceans and coastal waters. When factories produce smoke, the smoke ends up being trapped in the ocean, contributing to the dead spots. In the ocean, there are many dead spots or dead zones, in which life cannot survive there; this is due to the lack of oxygen. Although we can clean these dead spots, we choose not to. Think of the biggest dump you 've ever seen, filled with all sorts of bottles and garbage. In the oceans there is the biggest landfill, about the double size of texas. It lays by california, a polluted state. California is a polluted state because of how big it is. Another factor that plays into california 's pollution, is the easy access to water because most of the population of california is on the coast. Fish get trapped in the garbage so close to the shore, and die. When I was snorkeling in St. Thomas, the ocean was crystal clear, and not any pieces of garbage in sight. this is because of the stricter laws they have on littering. Soon because of the ocean currents, this one beautiful non littered ocean will be disgusting and covered by
