“ All of a sudden she was gone, never to be seen until ten years later” (Snoekstra 46). This is what Rebecca Winters mom said in one of her interviews in the book Only Daughter by Anna Snoeksrta. The book is about a girl who takes the identity of a Rebecca Winter, who had gone missing ten years ago. ‘Bec’ now has to figure out how to fit in with the family, and how to bypass all of the police questioning, and most importantly try to figure out what happened to Rebecca Winters. Anna Snoeksrta’s book also tells about the terrifying-oh-so-scary and jeopardous life ‘Bec’ came from. In this journal I will be predicting, characterizing and connecting. After reading the story I predict that the cops will figure out that ‘Bec’ is not the real Rebecca Winters. In the beginning of the story, instead of telling the cops who ‘Bec’ truly was, she lied to ovoid trouble; she said that she was Rebecca Winters, the girl on the missing persons poster standing behind the cop who was interrogating her. ‘ Bec’ wanted to ovoid telling the cops her real name because she had pending charges, and arrest warrants for drug related crimes. I believe the cops will figure out she is not the real Rebecca Winters Is because the cops who brought her back to her parents in Canberra thought that ‘Bec’ didn’t fit in as a kidnapped victim; the cops stated “ She said that she was abducted. This is how the town of Canberra felt when Rebecca Winters was kidnapped. I will be connecting the Rebecca Winters case to the Jacob Wetterling Case. Rebecca Winters was a sixteen-year-old girl who was abducted when she got off the bus when she finished one of her late night shifts at McDonalds. She was walking home from the bus stop, and was never seen again. When ‘Bec’ was getting questioned about where she was, who kidnaped her, or if she remembered anything after getting off the bus she replied with: “ I don’t want to relive that part of my life…. I don’t want to bring back the memories I just escaped” (Snoekstra 89-90). After being gone for ten years, it was a since of relief for the town of Canberra, but little did they know, the real Rebecca Winters had not returned. Jacob Wetterling was an eleven-year boy who was out playing with his friends one day; then out of nowhere Jacob was taken and never seen again. As in the Rebecca Winters case, it remained unsolved for twenty-seven years. In both cases the families went without answers for a long period of time; wondering if they ere ever going to see their children again. Unlike the Winters case, Jacobs’s parents were never able to see him again. Both families felt great tragedy, but only one felt relief when Rebecca returned
