Adult life today is filled with lots of responsibilities and busy schedules. Some adults feel that it is hard to find time to meet new people of interest for dating the old fashioned way that you get to meet new people through friends, family or at work, and also it costs more. Since technology has become a huge part of our everyday life and the internet is easy to access, people are starting to communicate through the internet online more nowadays. Catfishing is an internet scam which someone represent themselves to be someone else in the hopes of luring people into romantic relationships. Most catfish create their fake profiles, pull out pictures of others from social network, some catfish even get a separate phone line and create a complete online profile with fake friends. Oftentimes a catfish will go extremes to develop their lie and typically use social network and online dating sites. Why do people go catfishing? It is a variety of reasons; some catfish want to be liked through social network as they have low self-esteem in their normal life, some catfish seek for money or seek to amuse themselves. Catfishing cause victims in term of emotional and mentally pain which in some case also cause victims of losing their money or physical injury as well. For example, according to ABC News, a Philadelphia nursing student was luring women on match.com. Jeffrey Marsalis, 34, pretending to be a doctor, an astronaut and even a spy to bait women on internet dating sites. Marsalis was convicted of sexual assault in 2007. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges that he drugged and then raped seven women in his apartment. As we tell our children, we do not know that it is their friend on the other side of that screen and the same goes for adults. Especially women. Because we do not truly know who is on the end of the computer, daters open themselves to dangers one would likely never imagine. There are countless cases of murder, assault, stalking and kidnapping. According to The New York Post, an American daily newspaper that is primarily distributed in New York City and its surrounding area, reported that a mother of three was dismembered on the 12th of April 2016, in her own home in Seattle after online date. She was dating John Robert Charlton for about a month before the murder happened. She was reported missing from her Renton home on Saturday morning after her ex-husband arrived with their children and she was not home. Charlton has a criminal history spanning six states and his parents had to file a restraining order against him in 2006. John Charlton was convicted that same year of aggravated robbery in Utah; he was also convicted of a 2009 felony theft in Montana and negligent driving in Washington state in 1998. This is just one of the many criminals that are out there using these online dating sites as bait. People continue to use these online dating sites not having a clue about the many dangers that can occur.
