Artists who can express their visions and dreams in a manner that seems irrational are often known as surrealists. Surrealism can come in the form of both paintings and videos. Upon first glance, a surrealist work of art is often perceived as ‘making no sense’ but within that nonsense a message is conveyed. Youtuber Felix Colgrave is an example of a modern day surrealist artist who expresses the points he intends to make through strange and discomforting videos. One of the most popular of Felix’s videos is called DOUBLE KING. This is a nine minute and forty-seven second youtube video that starts out making a little sense, but as the video progresses the events and situations become more and more baffling and mind-boggling. At the start of …show more content…
This represents the tendency for greed to drive people out of control, especially after being driven to murder. There is even a point a little over halfway through the video where the Double King appears to turn against his own people/castle, shooting at it after having made his way onto the crown of the royal looking mountain. This represents the extent to which greed will drive people to react, even turning against those who have shown nothing but support. Once the Double King makes his way through the forest on the top of the mountain, he becomes paranoid and obsessed with obtaining more crowns and more power, so much to the point where he cuts off his own finger to get the crown he spotted on it, so mad that he can no longer even recognize his own …show more content…
Even in death the creature is obsessed with crowns and power, Double King becoming the embodiment of greed to the point where even in death, he constantly attempts to steal the crown of what can be assumed to be the God of Death. When the God of Death grows tired with the creature’s temper tantrum and annoyances, he willingly gives his crown to Double King, who then runs away and ends up floating into space. Double King ultimately floats out of existence. All of the obsession, actions, and greed amounted to nothing in the
The artists of the Surrealist movement strive to take everyday objects or thoughts and turn them into dream-like, unrealistic paintings. Salvador Dali and Vladimir Kush are two of the great Surrealist painters. Salvador Dali and Vladimir Kush are most known for their abilities to look at objects laying around and creating different and new combinations in a painting. Dali and Kush created many different paintings, but they did create similar paintings such as: Dali’s The Ship with Butterfly Sails and Kush’s Fauna in La Mancha. The two paintings, which were created by renowned artists, encompass the ideals and mannerisms of the Surrealist movement.
In literature, fictional stories can teach characters important lessons needed for their future. The Once and Future King, by T.H. White, tells the story of how the main character, Arthur, reaches his full potential of protecting and supporting his country. All of the knowledge Arthur learns in his youth is key in developing his skills and intellect. In the story Arthur has several unique learning experiences presented by his magical tutor, Merlyn. Learning from Merlyn’s lessons allows Arthur to lose the innocence of childhood and evolve into a wise and powerful king.
In T.H. White's Once and Future King, fate plays a very important role in Arthur's life when he meets Merlyn and Merlyn becomes his mentor. When they first met, Arthur was confused as to why Merlyn was going all the way home with him until Merlyn said, "Why not? How else can I be your tutor?" (37) Arthur realizes he had been on a quest to find his tutor. This quote is important to the theme because it was Arthur's first quest on his journey towards king. This reason this quote is so important is because Merlyn is preparing Arthur to become a great leader. After all of Arthur's training with Merlyn, Merlyn tells Arthur that he might not know it yet but he will be, "Hic jacet Arthutus Rex quandum Rexque futurus... The Once and Future King." (287) This quote foreshadows that Arthur, will in fact, become the great leader. If it were not for training with Merlyn, he would not be the great leader he developed into throughout the book.
Surrealism and realism are complete opposites. Surrealism means “beyond reality”. It is when someone creates art or literature that used images that represent unconscious thoughts and fantasies. It basically means that there are realistic characteristics is a non-realistic environment. Surrealism is usually represented through art. An example of surrealism is when Ned swam all these pools thinking it has only been a few hours, but in fact it had been a few months or ye...
During the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century, King Leopold II of Belgium invaded the Congo and used it to procure more wealth for himself and his nation. In doing so, as many as ten million Congolese were decimated, and they faced unspeakable horrors. Hochschild argues in King Leopold’s Ghost that all actions taken by King Leopold II were done out of nothing more than sheer greed and selfishness, and he used any means necessary to get what he wanted, and manipulated others into following suit by exploiting their own greed and racism. The only way the brutality was combated, Hochschild further goes on to describe, was through the actions of the few with a higher moral character.
Surrealistic artists tried to channel the “unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination.” (surrealism movement, artists and major works) Meaning that they try to look deeply within themselves to find the emotions and thoughts that they usually aren't aware of. Mckenny is from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. After dropping out of college, he went and bought a professional grade camera.
Rick Reilly, within his weekly Sports Illustrated column, “The Life of Reilly” sheds an interesting light onto the LeBron James controversy. LeBron James is considered, possibly, the greatest high school basketball player ever and will, in most scouts’ opinion, will be the first player selected in the 2003 N.B.A. draft. However, after a chain of events involving a gift of $845 worth of free basketball jerseys, James was ruled ineligible for two of his team’s high school games. Reilly explains the benefit another player receives from James’ error. Junior Brandon Weems has the chance to step in the shoes no one can fill and play in front of full crowds expecting to see LeBron. This paper will discuss briefly Reilly’s background as well as whom he has intended to read his piece. Furthermore, it will also discuss the rhetorical appeals Reilly has used and the argument structure that is taking place.
“The team was founded on June 5, 1967, after Jack Kent Cooke was awarded an NHL expansion franchise for Los Angeles on February 9, 1966, becoming one of the six teams that began play as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. ”(Retro Seasons) The Kings became one of the six teams to begin play during the 1967-68 season breaking the original 6 into a new system of 12 teams. What is surrealism? Surrealism is a 20th century avant-garde movement in art and literature that released the creative potential of the unconscious mind. When surrealism is used by an author we can’t tell if it is real or it is exaggerated. Surrealism is used in the story The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. He writes his stories as if he wants things to go one way but they go another way. In O’Brien’s two stories, “How to Tell a True War Story” and “Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong”, he reflects the concept of surrealism.
...uses three different concrete symbols, give them one meaning but when he put them together, they work together to represent another deeper meaning, a message that the author want to send to the readers, guilt. Shakespeare is working on human mind and shows the fear of guilt in his characters. The candle means that Lady Macbeth is afraid of darkness. On the other hand, she is scared of what she had done that could not let her mind to sleep, but confess her sins during sleep. The crown represents Macbeth’s guilt. He has to cheat his way to the top, murder King Duncan and his best friend and Macduff innocent family. Macbeth was lost, he will keep commit more murder in order to keep his crown. He has to live with fear to protect his own life because no kings are safe. The dagger illustrates Macbeth evil thoughts. His eyesight and mind are blinded by the effect of guilt.

The Importance of Perspective on Life By Ethan B “The Once and Future King” is the story of the Wart, a young boy adopted by a king. During his life with the king a tutor, Merlyn, taught him. With the help of Merlyn, a powerful wizard, the Wart became many different animals. The Animals that the Wart was conjured into were prominent in teaching him lessons on the different aspects and perspectives of life. These lessons would later be the key to King Arthur or the Wart’s powerful and majestic kingship.
According to Webster’s Dictionary, art is “human expression of objects by painting, etc” (10). The words “human experience” adds meaning to art. Artists reveal their inner thoughts and feelings through their work. When we study a painting by Salvador Dali, the strange objects and the surrealist background portrays the eccentricity of the painter. Some ideas cannot be explained verbally. They can only be shown via a medium. We can get across what is in our minds or our hearts by a stroke of a brush, a drop of paint, a row of words, or something else. But to express ourselves, we do not need to limit what we call art.

Salvador Dali and Vladimir Kush are two great Surrealist painters. The best of the two surrealist paintings has yet to be named.
Surrealism and the surrealist movement is a ‘cultural’ movement that began around 1920’s, and is best known for its visual art works and writings. According to André Berton, the aim was “to resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality, a super-reality” (Breton 1969:14). Surrealists incorporated “elements of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and ‘non sequitur”. Hence, creating unnerving, illogical paintings with photographic precision, which created strange creatures or settings from everyday real objects and developed advanced painting techniques, which allowed the unconscious to be expressed by the self (Martin 1987:26; Pass 2011:30).
