“The team was founded on June 5, 1967, after Jack Kent Cooke was awarded an NHL expansion franchise for Los Angeles on February 9, 1966, becoming one of the six teams that began play as part of the 1967 NHL expansion.”(Retro Seasons) The Kings became one of the six teams to begin play during the 1967-68 season breaking the original 6 into a new system of 12 teams. During their inaugural season, they lost in the first round to an expansion team like the Minnesota North Stars in game seven. After that, the team struggled to do anything major for the next 20 years. Until August 9, 1988, when the king traded for Wayne Gretzky, the greatest hockey player of all time. The Kings are one of the most fun, exciting, and beloved teams in the NHL. The Los Angeles Kings are in the NHL (National Hockey League) and are a very prominent team as they have 2 Stanley Cups ( the trophy for winning the NHL playoffs) in the past 12 years. They are extremely popular as Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States. Along with their 2 Stanley Cups the team has also won 3 Clarence Campbell trophies ( the team who makes it to the Stanley Cup final out of the Western Conference who have won the West). in their prestigious history, those 5 trophies rank them above the rest. The Los Angeles Kings were the first NHL team to really be on the West Coast. They have impacted the West Coast’s hockey production a lot since their expansion. The West Coast has grown the game past the limits it was previously capped at. Before that time, hockey was an afterthought in LA. No one knew too much about the sport. Since the Kings have been introduced into the league, they have been at the top of the league in sales and money on the huge market in LA. According to the states, they are worth 1.3 billion in all revenue. From the 2022 season to 2023 they had a 27% increase; this was a rebound after the huge drop during the COVID season when the Kings could not sell merchandise in person or sell tickets. Also, the Kings are huge in helping kids learn the game and play, they do hockey camps, provide money to organizations to help pay for gear and ice time. Over time, their efforts have helped California become ranked at the top of most hockey states. The Kings have some very notable current players: First is Anze Kopitar, the captain of this well oiled machine. He has been captain of the Kings for a long time now, about 8 years. He is a player who produces points no matter what, he doesn't produce a lot but he does it constantly which is very hard to find nowadays. He won both cups with the Kings as an assistant captain both
Not long after Gretzky arrived, the franchise closed its doors and sold its young asset to the NHL's Edmonton Oilers. “In the fall of 1979, Gretzky embarked on his first full NHL season As he had at every other level, he quickly started to dominate the competition, racking up an astonishing 51 goals and 86 assists, on his way to winning the league's Hart Memorial Trophy, an award recognizing its most valuable player,” (“Wayne Gretzky Biography”). It was the first time in history a first-year player had ever been honored with the award. Gretzky went on to win the Hart Memorial Trophy nine more times over the span of his career. To this day, he still holds the record for the most times that specific award has been given to an individual (Getz).
Fortunately for the NHL, they had/ have the Chicago Blackhawks, the Franchise to bring hockey back. The Chicago Blackhawks started the 2012-2013 series with a 24 point streak, meaning that they went 24 games with at least 1 point gained in each game. As many people don’t pay attention until the season has hit 20 or so games, the Hawks, had come to break the lockout of that particular attention span causing more attention towards not only the NHL , but for the Blackhawks themselves. As fans joined the progressing bandwagon, the NHL was gratefully coming out of the “drought” with numourus sponsorships with companies, and gaining profit from their
He was a natural leader on the Oiler’s from the start. He was a good leader who showed through example. He tallied just as many goals and points as he did during his dominate younger seasons. During Gretzky’s first season for the Oilers, he tallied 46 goals and 110 points. It was shortly after his MVP, 110 point season, that the Edmonton Oilers joined the National Hockey League, and on October 10, 1979, Wayne’s legendary career in the National Hockey League began.
“THERE IT IS HIS 894th GOAL” (Announcer). This amazing hockey legend also known as “The Great One” upon his retirement on April 18, 1999 Wayne Douglas Gretzky held/shared 61 National Hockey League records. These records include 40 regular season, 15 playoff, and 6 All-star records. These extravagant statistics just shows you how he got his name. Today I’m going to go through the process as to how this legend got so great.
O: Rage and revolt can describe the country of France at the time of the Revolution faced because of turmoil and struggle they faced. Different estates were formed based on what you did and your class in society. The people of society wanted more say in the government and decisions that King Louis XVI made. The public didn't approve with much of what King Louis did. His lack of ability to be a strong king and leader affected his reputation to the public eye. King Louis was tried for committing treason to the country of France. Treason is the attempt to kill a sovereign and overthrow the government. Some of the reasons were his attempt to flee to Varennes, living in Versailles which was not in Paris, and reforms he passed as a ruler. These actions performed by King Louis isn’t what a King does, but that doesn’t prove any
What was William Shakespeare’s perspective on King Henry V of England, and was his representation of King Henry V accurate?
...nds Coliseum, and the freeway that leads to the Coliseum is aptly named Wayne Gretzky Drive. Likewise, he has another life-size statue of himself outside of the Staples Center in Los Angeles where he played for the Kings.
George William Frederick III was twenty-two years old when he was put on the throne to be called King George III (Fraser 286; Baker). He would marry a German Princess named Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (Fraser 283). He was a very religious man who would spend his private time praying and reading his bible (282). King George II was George III’s grandfather. He was definitely not a well-liked king, for George had high standards coming to the throne (Baker). He was a new king, an addition that Britain thought they had never had before (Marshall 293). King George was the weakest king of Great Britain because he lost the American colonies and became very tragically sick later in life.
Based on the information provided in the document, The new Economics of the NHL, by T. Keller, it states, “Only one 5fth of the NHL’s teams are Canadian, yet the country’s fans account for nearly one third of the league’s revenues” (Keller, 2011). This demonstrates that despite Canada’s relatively low population to the United States and lower team numbers in the country, Canada still accounts for one third of the NHL’s revenues. Even when Canadian dedication is compared to hockey in the United States, who has more NHL teams and higher population, Canadians still contribute significantly to the leagues overall sales. If Canada had even more teams in different locations, such as Quebec, this revenue contribution could possibly grow even more and further establish the bond Canada has with hockey
If you could choose whether to have an honest and others-oriented ruler or an untrustworthy and selfish ruler which one would you choose? I would personally choose an honest and others-oriented ruler. The only way I would know that a ruler could possess those qualities is if he followed the divine right of kings. I know that he would be led by God, and would make the right choices to lead his people in the right path.
King Alfred The Great in many ways was considered to be one of the greatest rulers of England. He was best known for establishing peace with the Vikings and building the kingdom of England. Alfred was the only english leader to be called “ The Great”. He founded the britsih army and navy in 890 AD. In his defeat of the Danes at Ashdown and Rochester and The battle of Edington which made him
Having reached another impasse in talks on January 26, in Toronto, between owners and players, there continues to be no NHL hockey season. The lack of an agreement centers on the owners’ desire for a salary cap and the players’ saying they will not budge on that particular point. Albeit this is not the only sticking point, other issues appear to center around this one (Lebrun, NoHockey.CA, 2005, para. 13). The far-reaching affects of the lockout are becoming devastating to businesses that rely on income from games (Lebrun) and fans have reached a fervor of disdain for the whole ordeal (The Australian, 2005, para. 12-14).
Do you believe that supernatural elements exist today? Many supernatural elements exist in the Arthurian legends. These elements play an important role in many stories. Elements like King Arthur's sword Excalibur, Merlyn the wizard, and Avalon, a magical island, help advance the plot line in the Arthurian legends.
William the Conqueror The study of various medieval characters calls for covering a lot of ground. Medieval Literature refers to the works produced from about the fall of Rome, which was the late 400s CE to the advent of the printing press in the 15th century. This is the period of the end of the Classical period when people wore togas to the Renaissance when manly men put on tights and women fitted cumbersome Elizabethan attire. During this period, stories were passed by word of mouth before being written down in manuscripts.
