He is the youngest of three children to Noeleen (cleaner) and Graham (truck driver). His father died in 2010 about five months before the death of Cheney. He struggled at school and was at the lower end of the class. He was picked on by his peers and did not want to go to school but was forced to go. He had been enrolled in a "special school" before grad 1 but throughout primary school he went to mainstream classes. He said he was sexually abused by a male neighbour on a number of occasions when he was five years old. The effect of this was to make him anxious and clingy, …show more content…
He obtained work with his father for a while and then returned to school but again struggled and eventually left in year 10 without a certificate. Mr Oliver said he went to live with his father because he missed him and he had been upset by the separation. When he was 17 years old, his father remarried and so he went to live with an uncle who was also a heavy drinker. There were problems in the household and eventually he returned to live with his father and his father's wife until he was 21 years old. After that he moved in with his sister Jenny and remained with her for 18 months while working in landscaping for his other sister. They would argue and they had been sleeping separately. On one occasion, he broke down while he was with a female friend. She comforted him and he slept with her. She fell pregnant. This had occurred before the death of his father. After his father passed away, Mr Oliver said his son was born to Awhina. He kept it a secret from Bettina. Awhina moved to Perth and Mr Oliver went there to see her. Despite an earlier arrangement, Awhina decided that she wanted custody of the child. The matter went to the Family Court by July 2010 and Mr Oliver had lost access to his child. He was upset and saddened by this but declares he had made plans to move out with his son. He felt guilty because he has betrayed Bettina, and sad because his father had not seen his grandson. He had no treatment or
Joe Oliver was born on May 11th, 1885. It is said that he was born on the plantation that his mother worked for as a cook near Donaldsonville, Louisiana, although there are not very many actual documents of him of that time. I chose the Dave Pelzer testimony to review because of its varying slant on the typical societal perception of child abuse which predominately deems maltreatment as either occurring from infancy, or instigated by males. Evidencing this misconception, Dave’s childhood is portrayed as idyllic until, around aged four, life rapidly deteriorates when his mother develops mental health and alcohol issues and turns from being devoted and loving into a sadistic, controlling and manipulative woman. At the hands of his own mother, Dave is singled out from his two brothers for being ‘naughty’, scapegoated and subjected to appalling treatment which leaves him physically, emotionally
Since there were few blacks in the school and he was slightly a target of biggotous remarks he went back to getting attention by clowning around in class again. He was later sent to Germantown Highschool where all his neighborhood friends went. He was back with his friends but his grades started to drop. He was left back twice. He was also too old to participate in the city track meets (which he could easily win).
He lived with many different father figures before moving 40 miles south
During the turbulent storm in the story, Kate Chopin depicts that the marriage of Calixta and Bobinôt is going downhill. Both Bobinôt and Calixta are trapped in different locations during the storm. Bobinôt is in a general store and Calixta is at home. Not only are they in different places during the physical storm but they are also in different places on where their marriage stands. Calixta exposes the reader to see that her husband, Bobinôt, does not understand her because during the storm she is buried in the arms of another man. Calixta makes it apparent that she needs more from her husband and if he is not going to give her what she needs, she will find it in another man. The story depicts that Bobinôt did not give his wife the attention she needs when Bibi asked, “Mama’ll be ’fraid, yes” and Bobinôt responds by saying, “She’ll shut the house. Maybe she got Sylvie helpin’ her this evenin’” but Bibi corrects him by saying, “No; she ent got Sylvie. Sylvie was helpin’ her yistiday” (Chopin 96). Bobinôt shows that he is not attentive to what is happening around the home with his wife during this part of the story. Bobinôt’s inattentiveness must cause him to not unders...

The Trader, Mr. Mitchell, was selling a lot of slaves on the way down south but found it hard to sell him. He was a lot whiter then the other slaves which was a problem. This resulted to him being sent to Mr. Seed who he stayed with for a year. He also had a hard time selling him.
