Oceane didn’t want to get up. Rain pounded on her grimy window, and she stayed up all night to escape the nightmares. Reluctantly, she pulled on some clothes and pulled her purple hair into a bun. Just another day of going through the motions, she thought, but Oceane thought wrong. When Oceane walked through the door, he was the first thing she saw. One glance is all she would take, she thought to herself. His hair, a rich shade of dark blonde, caught her eye first. Her eyes quickly raked over the rest of him, noting his russet eyes and strong jawline, his ratty band tee and skinny jeans. Oceane forced herself to look away, but couldn’t help looking back at him as she walked by. He instantly captivated her because he didn’t look like everyone …show more content…
She rushed to her next class and tried to push all thoughts of the new boy out of her head, to no avail. All Oceane could think about was the smirk on his face and the way it made her feel: light and happy. She hadn’t felt that way in years. When Oceane walked into her classroom and noticed the pretty girls laughing at her ragged, holey clothes, her mood instantly dropped back to her usual state of hating herself and wanting to die. Oceane laid her head on the desk and half-listened to the gossip about the new boy. The droning filled her ears and lulled her to sleep, but she sat up straight when she heard his name, Chris. The word floated off of her tongue. It tasted of hope and young love; it tasted bittersweet like memories and possibilities. The rest of the day passed by in a blur. Oceane didn’t see him again until the end of the day, when she was heading out to her car. He smiled at her and nodded when he noticed her shirt. “Nice band tee,” he called in a smoky voice. She just blushed and hurried away out of embarrassment. Her brain was a rush of emotion. He noticed me! He talked to …show more content…
Well then, I guess I was right, you don’t love me,” she spat. “Oceane, please--” She interrupted him, screaming, “Just leave me alone and go talk to that Ophiolite chick online. Maybe she’s good enough for you.” A look of confusion spread across his face. “Wha-? Oceane, no, I don’t like her like I like you. I love you.” “You don’t love me, you are just using me. You just chose me because I would be easy and you stayed so I wouldn’t off myself before you had your fun.” Oceane smirked when she saw the hurt expression on his face. “I hope you’re happy without me.” “Babe, please don’t leave. I love you so much, just please stay with me,” he begged. “I do love you, I’m not using you, I chose you because I fell in love at first sight, and I stayed because I want you.” Oceane just shook her head, laughing derisively. “Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, I’m leaving.” She turned and jumped out of the tree house, just catching a glimpse of Chris’ pained face as he reached out for her. Her heart hurt, but she thought she made the right decision. “It’s better off this way, I think,” she muttered. The next day, Oceane skipped school. She couldn’t bring herself to get out of bed and risk seeing him again. If she saw Chris, she might end up taking him back. And that was the one thing she swore she’ll never
She quickly finished cleaning and went to bed to get some rest, as she lay in bed she turned on her phone and could see that her social media accounts were blowing up with the search for the mystery senior that had Tristan going crazy. The minute that he posted a tweet that said he had her cap almost everyone in the entire school had replied saying it was theirs. This made Armani laugh and thinking nothing of it she replied with a comment “wonder who’s” with that she went to

Now I wished that I could pen a letter to my school to be read at the opening assembly that would tell them how wrong we had all been. You should see Zachary Taylor, I’d say.” Lily is realizing now that beauty comes in all colors. She is also again being exposed to the fact that her way of being raised was wrong, that years and years of history was false. “The whole time we worked, I marveled at how mixed up people got when it came to love.
In “Chapter 6 – The Sea Around Us” of Elizabeth Kolbert’s The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, the author reveals the fact that the ocean is acidifying due to human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation. In this chapter, Kolbert notes that there was a lack of biodiversity near the vents at Castello Aragonese in order to present the oceans’ future possibility. One of the types of sea creatures that ocean acidification would devastate are the calcifiers, which are organisms that create shells or skeletons made of calcium carbonate (Kolbert 117-122). Credible sources of information, such as the EPA and the Smithsonian Institution, agree that ocean acidification poses a serious threat to marine calcifiers,
Looking out across the stone-paved road, she watched the neighborhood inside the coffee colored fence. It was very similar to hers, containing multiple cookie-cutter homes and an assortment of businesses, except no one was there was her color and no one in her neighborhood was their color. All of them had chocolate skin with eyes and hair that were all equally dark. Across the road to her right, a yellow fence contained honey colored people. She enjoyed seeing all the little, squinted almond eyes, much smaller then her own, which were wide set and round. One little, sunshine colored boy with dark straight hair raised his arm and waved his hand, but before she could do the same back her father called her into the house. His lips were pressed and his body was rigid, the blue of his eyes making direct contact with her
The foamy wavelets curled up to her white feet and coiled like serpents about her ankles. She walked out. The water was chill but she walked on. The water was deep, but she lifted her white body and reached out with a long, sweeping stroke. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace.

In the days leading up to her graduation, she was so excited about receiving her diploma for her academic accomplishments, even though she hasn’t accomplished a lot in life by experiencing a little bit of it. She felt like the birthday girl with her pretty dress, beautiful hair, and the presents she received from Uncle Willie and her mother. She felt like it w...
"You can't be in love with me." Lachlan said, leaning away from Jason. "We only met today."
“She asked me if I loved her. I told her it didn’t mean anything but that I didn’t think so. “
Hemingway’s use of symbols and the metaphors beyond the symbols is phenomenal. Metaphors are an implied analogy that has an ideal that is being expressed and it also has an image by which that idea is conveyed. Establishing the similarities between the following dissimilarities is what helps to identify the metaphors behind the symbols in Hemingway’s writings. He uses things as symbols to help express the old man’s deep feelings in his journey through life.
A sad truth was that his world revolved around Camille. His moods were so intertwined with hers, that he reacted to every nuance. His hobbies from when he was a teenager had all but faded ever since he became so enraptured with her. He had forgotten what it felt like to play the piano, t...
His breath reeked strongly of alcohol as he kissed her. The kiss was sloppy but uncensored, his disarrayed and muddy emotions creeping over the wall that had been erected after the incident. Even in this haze of intoxication, she felt the closeness that he had been starving her of, and relished in it. Ignoring the miasma of old whiskey and his feverish grabs, she appreciated the scarcity of the moment. He had, no doubt, driven them here, to this alluring California beach, to announce his pending affair.

She took a glimpse at her reflection in the mirror and reached out to touch the image of herself. A tear steadily rolled down her rosy cheek as the thoughts of making a choice between her brother and best friend.
