For my experiment, I decied to interview and observe how Asain people reacts to certain question or incidient. Chicago is the best state to observe how Asian culture affects people. There were many Asian social groups that I was able to choose to attend. For my observation, I chose my former church where I used to attend during middle school to monitor gender roles. The weekend I visited the church was a perfect timing, since it was the day we were to celebrate 15th anniversary-establishment of the study abroad youth group, and were planning to have fest. My assumption based on common historical knowledge about Korean culture was that I would witness a bossy male show of his strength and subordinate female mostly working in the Kitchen. Two of them were cutting vegetables, meats, and fruits. One were doing dishes. I stood in front of the stove, doing what the oldest ‘unnie’ told me to do. When I was about to finish cooking Kimchi stew, the oldest ‘unnie’ told me to finish grinding potatoes to make Korean pancake. As what Korean culture demands, I must do what oldest tells me to do. While I was grinding the potatoes, I watched two males bring and set up four tables, and fifteen chairs. After finishing setting up, they asked me to hand water-soaked piece of clothes to swipe the surface of dusted-tables. When I was about to hand the clothes, the oldest unnie said, “that’s what girls suppose to do. You two are fine to go, play with the rest. And Ji, you go ahead swipe those tables”. I was not able to understand why she would say such things, because we had so much work to do. We were still needed to prepare three more dishes and should get any help as possible. But she refused because she thinks its females’ task to set up dinner. I had to swipe all four tables, place silverware, cup, and a dish for each seat. When we were done with cooking, the youngest girl and I served foods to each table. The dinner was fantastic. The food was good and the conversation was perfect. However, after dinner, all males walked out of the gym and went to chapel to play around, while females took care of dirty dishes. Two girls did the dishes, while two girls swiped the dirty tables. The same two male helped taking back the tables after I requested them to help
