I personally have been affected by obesity, as obesity run through my family specifically my father’s side of the family. Living in food deserts, or being constantly on the road has contributed. While I may not be excessively obese, I am still over weight. Obesity in America is very wide spread. Often time we go throughout our running in to people who may obese but never really notice how obese we are as a country. According to a team of researchers for the Journal of the American Medical Association, 66 %of Americans are obese (Ogden, 2014). The researchers also found that 71 % of all adult males are overweight or obese with 33.5% of all males being obese. Whether we good parents or bad parents without them, we would be where we are today. That can be a positive and a negative thing. However, often times forgotten, parenting begins before the child is even born. There are several factors that are uncontrollable. Researchers at the Semel institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior in California found that maternal age, height birth weight of child and annual income exhibited long-lasting impact on obesity (Huang, 2014). These are one of those uncontrollable factors with obesity, we cannot determine the height and weight of a child, Often times children keep their baby fat for a while. The same group of researcher also found that if a mother had higher maternal weight, lower education, smoked during, and lacked in breastfeeding studies show that those behaviors elevate the risk for adolescent obesity (Huang, 2014). The industry for powdered breast milk is very successful; many mothers today are not breastfeeding, but instead using unnatural means to feed their children. When many think of life style choices, they think of factors like smoking, inactivity, and diet. While those factors do play a major role, life style choices start before those factors alone. Americans live a very stressful life. If we’re not doing one thing, were doing another. Often times Americans are given a life of stress, whether its work, kids, or friends we often neglect ourselves. Being overly stressed may an impact and may affect other aspects of one’s life such as exercise and diet. Roohafza Kabir, and his team of researchers for the archives of Arminian Medicine found that Individuals who lived with high stress life styles were found to be more obese as opposed to those who said their lives were not overly stressful (Kabir, 2014). By living in these highly stressful lives we become more susceptible to obesity as we often time have no concern for it or even time to think about our weight. Kabir continued by saying that people with high levels of stress have little concern about their weight gain, less weight control behavior, and very few physical activities (Kabir, 2014). When one is stressed they can’t find the time, or they may make life style choices such as smoking and drink to cope with the stresses of life.
