Application in the real world: Save the Children being the leading independent non-governmental organization has the mission to inspire successes in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and sustain lasting change. Even though complementary feeding is a global practice, the practice differs between individuals, socioeconomic class and cultures. Some caregivers may start complementary feeding before six months, some may give soft drinks or teas to infants for personal reasons or due influence of siblings or peers. Good complementary foods should not include drinks and beverages or feeds that are not nutrient and calorie dense, nutrient inhibitors and should easy to digest. 7) Nutritional Counseling: This is an ongoing process normally involving a registered dietitian or other health care professionals knowledgeable in nutrition and health like nurses, physicians, and health educators who works with individuals to assess their dietary intake in order to identify areas where dietary modifications is needed. The health professionals or counselors provides nutrition education, helps the client to make informed decision, and follow-up to help maintain the healthy dietary and lifestyle modifications.

This involves the use of different methods such as 24-hour recall which list all foods and drinks consumed within the last 24 hours; food frequency questionnaire to get a picture of typical eating pattern; daily food records can also be used to assess client food intake. Counselors may also asses the client’s body mass index (BMI), compare it with standard BMI table in order to determine the client’s ideal body weight. Then, the counselor and the client work together to identify dietary and lifestyle changes needed and how to effect such changes. These changes depends on some factors like religion, ethnic background, socioeconomic status, world view and group affiliation which affect food choices.

Current and relevant research: Omega-3 free fatty acids attenuate insulin-promoted breast cancer cell proliferation by Yang et al (2017). The current study tested the hypothesis that omega-3 FFAs attenuate insulin-induced breast cancer cell proliferation and regulate insulin signaling pathway. The study shows here that omega-3 FFAs attenuate MCF-7 cell proliferation and Akt and Erk1/2 phosphorylation levels stimulated by insulin.
