Nothing but the Truth Philip Malloy is a high school student. He is in the ninth grade at Harrison High School in New Hampshire. The story begins when Philip keeps humming the Star-Spangled Banner everyday in his homeroom class during the morning news and announcements. Philip is in Mr. Lunser’s homeroom class. The faculty rule is that everyone is to be silent and stand up respectfully during the playing of the national anthem. Teachers and other students thought it was annoying and started getting tired of Philip’s humming. Philip enjoys running and looks forward to trying out for his school's track team. His middle school coach had told the coach at the high school that Philip was a really good runner. His hopes are crushed when he learns that he cannot try out for the team because he has a 'D' in English. Philip is not fond of his English teacher, Miss Margaret Narwin. He does not like her at all and thinks she is the meanest and dumbest teacher in the world. She always gets on his nerves. She wrote a letter to her sister, Anita, and told her that she liked Philip. She said he was intelligent and that he had potential, but he irritated her because he did not have the desire to learn. Philip studied for his winter term exams but did not bother to study for his English exam. For the spring term, the faculty made changes and Philip got assigned to Miss Narwin’s homeroom class. Things got worse when Philip was assigned to her homeroom as if being in her English class wasn’t bad enough. When Philip got back to school he found out he was assigned to counseling. Philip was furious and still wanted to get out of Miss Narwin’s English class. Miss Narwin is always sending Philip to the principal’s office for creating disturbances. Philip makes jokes and fails Miss Narwin’s tests on purpose. He couldn’t pass her class and she couldn’t take a joke. Philip keeps a diary of everything that happens and of everything that goes on in his head. Philip gets into big trouble. Miss Narwin sends him to the vice-principal’s office for humming the national anthem. He gets suspended for a week. It is the nature of the disturbance, humming during the Star Spangled Banner that creates a huge controversy. A chain reaction of events turns the conflict into a patriotic issue.
In the book the character Lavaughn is the type of person who cares about her education because she wants to get somewhere in life. Lavaughn tries her best to keep her grades up because she wants to get into college. Lavaughn is so focused on going to college because according to pg 10 chapter 4 her mother says “ nobody in this building Ever went to college, nobody in this family “Somebody got to be the first, right”. With her mother making these statements, Lavaughn want to pursue her goal to go to college.In addition, Lavaughn is a very determined person. For example, Lavaughn was looking for jobs that were being offered when she was at school.She found a job babysitting for another teenager named Jolly. Finally, Lavaughn would also be considered to be a caring person. Lavaughn is caring because, when she had to babysit, she was sacrificing her education to babysit Jolly’s two children. For instance, on page 27 it says that Jolly was gone for two days and Lavaughn had to stay home from school for a whole day. Also on page 21, chapter 8, it says that “Myrtle and Annie saw me skipping lunch to finish my math”. This shows how Lavaughn happens to be a caring, persist, and helpful person.
His grades were very bad and he wasn’t known to be a good student in class. He was described as, “ noisy,disruptive, always fooling around with his friends”. When his mother was notified about this, although her help was limited, it seemed to help him for a little bit, but then he fell back into same place as he was before. Donny was set up with a tutor, by the name of Cal. Cal was not the type of tutor any parent would intentionally set their child up with. He encouraged the child to rebel against authority. He criticized every attempt Donny's mother made to help her child. Donny unsurprisingly enjoyed the sessions with Cal. At the end of the story Donnys tutor was dropped and Donny was sent to a new school. His grades began to look better, but after a few months he disappeared. No one knew where he could be, not even Cal. Donnys parents are now left with a lost

They don't get along because Philip does not bother to study for the class, and Miss Narwin has a strong love for education. When Philip gets a bad grade in his midterm, he is moved from Mr. Lunser’s homeroom class to Miss Narwin’s. One day during the morning announcements, Philip Malloy begins to hum the national anthem while it is playing on the speaker for morning exercises.
Both of Philip’s parents attended oral schools. Her father later learned signed through his friends who were active signers. Her mother learned sign language when she met her father at age 18. By the time Marie was born, her mother, age 22, did not sign fluently. When Marie was old enough to go to school her parents endeavored to send her to Clarke School for the Deaf, a very famous oral school. Here she was rejected because she knew how to sign.
Daisy lacks self confidence which made it harder to raise her fifteen year-old son Donny. There were many instances where Daisy pondered on what she can do better to help Donny in school, but as she put forth an effort, she always resisted. “She remembered when Amanda was born. Donny had acted lost and bewildered. Daisy had been alert to that of course, but still, a new baby keeps you busy of course….”(570) When Daisy saw this happening, she never stopped to reassure Donny that even though he had a sister, it was not going to change their relationship. Daisy should have reassured her son by correcting the problem as soon as it surfaced, then Donny should have understood. When Donny started to have problems in school, Daisy gave up without trying, and let a tutor dictate her son’s activities especially when the teacher questions Daisy about Donny’s actions, Daisy replied, “Oh I’m sorry, Miss Evans, but Donny’s tutor handles these things now…” (572) In school Donny’s behavior changed soo drastically that he started to stay out late and Daisy just sat back and let this happen. “The tutor had sat down so many rules![She] were not allowed any questions at all about school, nor were to speak with his teachers…,Only one teacher disobeyed…”(572) Because Daisy didn’t believe in herself or her word, she let others control and therefore his behavior worsened.

The next unclear situation is when the Governess learns of Miles’ expulsion. This is one of the main mysteries within this story. The question, “What does it mean? The child’s dismissed his school,” is the only question that the reader has throughout the conversation between the Governess and Mrs. Grose (165). Even though their conversation does inform the reader that the school has “absolutely decline[d]” Miles, it doesn’t clarify what exactly he has done to be expelled (165). The Governess comments, “That he’s an injury to the others” and “to corrupt” are her own opinions as to why Miles was expelled (165, 166). Nevertheless, her comment does not help the reader in any way because the remark in and of itself is unclear. Many students believe that Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird displays social issues in early America. In this time standing against common customs was unacceptable, a violation of society. People believe that today courage has overcome adversity that was displayed in early America. Courage is the common subject of To Kill a Mockingbird, which allows Lee’s novel to defy the changing times of humanity. These morals are bound to the “impartiality” and “fairness” taught to people as children, but become unavoidably invisible though selfish actions. The characters in To Kill a Mockingbird express audacity along with resilience in the face of cowardice.
The students could hardly sit still during penultimate period the day before the long Columbus Day Weekend. The school was gearing up for the annual pep rally held during the last period of the school day before the Columbus Day Weekend. Lots of Calvary Hill teachers would stick it to the students before long weekends and vacations by giving tests and quizzes, others would give up the instructional time and let the kids watch a movie. Peter didn’t test or let the kids waste time with movies, he structured the time with games of Jeopardy and other fun activities that kept the kids engaged and thinking about the content material, while still having fun. When the final bell rang, the students could hardly believe that the period had flown by. They gathered up their materials and headed for the door.
“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher,” she stated. Her passion for helping children with special needs was developed at a later age. The reason why Chris decided to be a special education teacher was because of two twin boys in her grade who had special needs. Chris was only in kindergarten at the time, but she recalls that one of these boys did not get to go to school. The other boy, Jimmy, could come to school, but he would have to leave halfway through the school day. Chris was confused and upset about how Jimmy could not be at school and asked her mom about this. The reason why Jimmy and his brother were not able to be at school was because there was no special education program available. This moment, even though she was in kindergarten, shaped Chris’s plan for her life.
William faced many struggles in his life due to living in poverty, although he never loses hope and is very optimistic. His family did not have much money and they tried very hard to send William to school because he wanted to expand his knowledge. His family was able to afford it for a short amount of time and then William was not able to attend any longer. He was not happy to hear he could not go to school anymore because he wanted to learn. William came up with a solution and decided he would go to the library and teach himself. He kept up with almost all the things his fellow classmates were learning at school and it was saving his family money.
Absolute Truth Since the beginning of time, there were quarrels caused by the disagreement between two sides just because no one was aware of what the truth in fact was. Public thinks that truth is relative because every one can look at it from a variety of viewpoints; however, there is only one absolute truth no matter what people declare or consider truthful. We all know that there are numerous implications of word truth, however, knowing something to be true doesn't automatically qualifies as being the "truth" until we can validate, have a sufficient amount evidence to support, and believe in it. Truth is found in areas of knowledge such as sciences and mathematics for the reason that in these subjects the answer is either correct or incorrect. It can be solved by using unique techniques but it still gives us the identical outcome regardless of what we perform.

The final straw was when Janice walked into the school and found her son sitting in the school reception area with his older sister, while the rest of the students enjoyed a nice Christmas party. Janice said her son was clearly not wanted at that school, so she took the kids’ stuff and enrolled them into a public school where Alex was would be much more comfortable. The teachers were more comfortable dealing with children with complex needs.
Bonnie the secretary introduced me to my new teacher. As Mrs. Bonnie was leaving the room, my new teacher Mrs. Evaheart introduced me to the class. As I stared at the class I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed.
