On Thursday, September 17th, 2015 at approximately 1845 hours while working as a Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom store 626, located in Annapolis, Maryland, I, Michael Hugg observed via CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) an unknown male later identified as David James Jackson Jr. enter the Rail department. I began observation of Jackson due to the quick selection of one black Howe ‘White lie’ jacket followed by furtive eye movement. After selecting the Howe jacket, Jackson immediately escalated upstairs to the second floor of the store with the jacket in his hand while looking at the merchandise tag. I continued CCTV observation on Jackson. At approximately 1846 hours, I observed Jackson put the Howe jacket on his persons and walked toward the Nordstrom Café, Jackson then entered the Nordstrom Café and immediately exited. the selected Howe jacket. At approximately 1848 hours, continuing constant observation via CCTV, I observed Jackson walking toward the North Entrance still wearing the selected Howe jacket.
At approximately 1848 hours, Jackson exited the North Entrance still wearing the selected Howe jacket, passing several manned and open registers; failing to pay for the selected black Howe jacket. At approximately 1850 hours, I approached Jackson approximately five spaces inside of the Westfield Shopping Town Blue Garage where I identified myself both verbally and with a badge as Nordstrom Loss Prevention. At this time Westfield Mall Security observed the apprehension. I then asked Jackson if he knew why I stopped him, Jackson was absolutely silent in which I asked him if he had a medical condition or if he understood my questions. Jackson shook his head ‘yes’ to asking if he understood me, I then asked Mall Security to assist me with the escort due to Jacksons strange behavior. Jackson was escorted to the Loss Prevention Detention Room using the safest and quickest
route. At approximately 1852 hours, Jackson, Mall Security and I entered the Loss Prevention Office. Each person was notified that the room was being audio and video recorded. I then conducted a routine pat search for safety reasons which came up negative. I then asked Jackson if he knew why he was stopped to which he replied “yes”. At that time, I asked Jackson if he had and ID which he replied “yes” then retrieved it from his wallet and handed it to me, I then explained to Jackson the Nordstrom Admonishment Program in which he stated he understood. Jackson then signed the Nordstrom Admission, Nordstrom Trespass, and the Nordstrom Admonishment Program paperwork. All paperwork and video will be in the Loss Prevention Office located on the second floor of the store.
This story made me frustrated at the way people get forced into a rut that they can’t escape. Jackson Jackson isn’t completely innocent, no one is, but most of his problems were a result from the wrong that others had inflicted upon him. The frustrating part was that He was incapable of getting himself out. He did things like spend money on alcohol and cheese burgers, only to end up throwing it all up and even less money. To me, this story is about redemption. Jackson received grace from people like the good cop, and the pawnbroker. None of his own efforts changed his situation, only the kindness of others changed him. These kind deeds helped reconcile the reality of Jackson’ life and his situation. In a story like this, I always hope for a
Throughout history there has been considerable tension between race and crimes committed. The court trial of Bernhard Goetz initiated debate on race and crime in the major cities, and the limitations of self-defense. Bernhard Goetz in 1984 shot five bullets in a New York City subway, seriously wounding four young black men. After turning himself into the police nine days later, the public now knew who was the shooter. Bernhard Goetz was entitled the “Subway Vigilante”. The subway shooting incident ideally exemplified the exasperation with the high crime rates of the 1980s. Due to the time period that this incident occurred, Bernhard Goetz was commended and reviled in the media surrounding the case, and the public’s standpoint. The subway shooting, and the court trial following the shooting, lead to the uprise of the fight against crime in major cities. Justice is difficult to define, and in controversial acquittal of Bernhard Goetz, justice in this sense, was not served.
" The open positions created by this had to be filled with somebody. Though Jackson did not pick the most worthy people for the job, instead, he chose people who had helped him win the election and some of his friends to join him in the government. This practice, called the spoils system was very unfair and took away jobs from worthy people to help Jackson push his own personal agenda. Most of the individuals he hired were extremely unqualified too. One of these individuals, Samuel Swartwout, whom Jackson had left in charge of the collections from the New York City customhouse, where half of the government's annual revenue was collected, ran away with over $1 million that he stole while working his position.

There have been lots of modern technologies introduced in the United States of America to assist law enforcement agencies with crime prevention. But the use of body-worn cameras by police personnel brings about many unanswered questions and debate. Rising questions about the use of body cam are from concern citizens and law enforcement personnel. In this present day America, the use body cameras by all law enforcement personnel and agencies are one of the controversial topics being discussed on a daily base. Body worn cameras were adopted due to the alleged police brutality cases: for instance, the case of Michael Brown, an African-American who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, on August 2014, Eric Garner died as a result of being put in a chokehold by a New York police officer, and John Crawford, shot and killed by a police officer at a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio.
At the close of war, Captain and Mrs. Jackson moved to South Carolina two years

Washington explains racism and stereotyping that is being pushed on black people who shop at high end, expensive department stores. As soon as his mother managed to get Andrew and his brother released, Robert died an infection of smallpox that had hit both boys while prisoners. This was only the start of hardships for Andrew Jackson. All his immediate family disappeared in the span of two years. His eldest brother, Hugh, died two years prior of heat exhaustion in the Battle of Stono Ferry in South Carolina, and his mother perished of cholera the same year as Robert. Suddenly, Jackson, 14, was completely alone in the world.
Police officers provide an important and necessary function; however, in recent months, there have been many people who have expressed their opinion about the police acting inappropriately. The displeased people feel that the police have discriminated against and mistreated African Americans. One widely known example of perceived mistreatment is the case of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. According to Buchanan, Fessenden, and Lai (2015), Michael Brown stole merchandise from a convenience store and proceeded to walk down the middle of the street. Officer Wilson stopped him and recognized Brown as a suspect in the robbery (Buchanan et al., 2015). According
When the war of 1812 broke out in June, Jackson offered his services to President James Madison, but his offer was rejected due to his connection to Burr as well as his reputation for a short temper (Marquis). It was in December that Madison finally relented and commissioned him to lead one thousand, five-hundred men to Natchez to go and defend New Orleans. In March of 1813 the War Department believed that the threat to New Orleans had passed and dismissed Jackson and his men, but they offered no compensation nor any means of transportation back to Tennessee (Miller). Jackson then marched alongside his men declaring that he would get his men home, even if he had to use his own money. It was on the month long journey that Jackson began to gain the respect and favor of his men, as well as gaining the nickname “Old Hickory” because he shared the hardships alongside his men, marching with them, eating with them and allowing the sick, or wounded to ride horses, regardless of rank.
Initially Jackson struggled, because he was considered old for just starting at West Point. He also struggled with the curriculum and many other students shunned him and ridiculed him for his poor background and education prior. However, Jackson continued to push through this adversity and ended up graduating in 1846. Quickly earned a reputation for his toughness and bravery. In 1848, he held the rank of brevet major before the end of the war. He continued with his military service until he became a professor at the Virginia Military Institute in 1851. Jackson spent 10 years as a professor of artillery tactics at the institute in Lexington. Supposedly, Jackson was disliked by some of his cadets for his lack of sympathy and strictness. The younger years of Thomas Jackson’s life lay the foundation for the important man, general, leader that he became. The continuance of tragedies in Jackson’s life accounts for his “lack of sympathy” towards any problem. His unfortunate circumstances throughout his life created a drive that unearthed his bravery and courage that allowed him to become a general in the Civil War. In 1853, Jackson married Elinor Junkin, the daughter
On November 5, 1835 America mourned the loss of their seventh president, Andrew Jackson. Jackson’s two term service to his nation had great influence, and his death left the nation he held so close in shambles. Jackson’s cause of death is widely speculated. Some maintain that his death was caused by two bullets in his body giving his lead poisoning. However, most, including the majority of the staff here at the South Carolina Leader, believe that John C. Calhoun is to blame for Jackson’s passing.
First, music was playing and was at a volume that almost anyone could hear. The country genre gave the atmosphere a comfortable, Midwestern feeling. The music lightened up the environment of the store and made it a fun place to be. By the front windows, fall decorations were hanging which gave the establishment a festive feeling. On each wall, there were lights pointing at the shoes, making it easier to see the products. All of the footwear was displayed for the customers to see. From would I could tell, there was no attempt to persuade with smell or taste. There was no noticeable scent and they did not provide any food or drink to use as
