Can someone outside of the Catholic Church be saved? This is a tricky question, not in that we dont know but because the decision is up to God, and because God has an infinite mind we cant comprehend him. Non catholics can be saved but it depends if they were shown the light of god. For example if someone lived their whole life withought hearing the word of god they will be judged by their conscience and how they acted throughout their life. On the second hand, if someone was shown the light of God, but were ignorant of the Gospel, there will be “wailing and grinding of teeth”matthew:8 12.
There are many different religions other that catholics. We share many beliefs between these different religions. If a non catholic was a good person,
...lvation is achieved differs significantly among the various Christian groups, for example, the Catholic Church believes that salvation is attained through good works such as acts of charity and almsgiving, while the Anglican Church as a deeper focus on personal faith and acceptance of Jesus as the Savior. The concept of salvation is a driving factor in the formation of ethics and morals in the Christian faith, as individual desire to receive eternal life in heaven underpins many actions and choices that they make, such as the choice to attend church or participate in aiding the poor and helpless.
the catholics can not accept the ways of their religion (Document 6). There was also the point of
A time comes in everybody's life where they need to be "saved." When this happens a spiritual bond is formed with in that individual. In Langston Hughes' essay, "Salvation," that bond is broken because Langston wasn't saved. It is because Langston turned to Jesus, and in his eyes Jesus wasn't there. This creating a conflict within himself and the members of the church, with the end result being Langston's faith being destroyed.
When we think of religion, we picture distinct overview of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to certain spiritual manifests. Various religions developed certain stories, symbols, and sacred backgrounds that explain everything from the meaning of life to the overall power of the Universe. Catholics are Christians who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Catholicism shares few beliefs with other Christian practices but, essential Catholic beliefs are as followed: The Bible is the inspired word of God. Baptism, the rite of becoming a Christian, is necessary for salvation whether or not a baptism is done by water, blood, or choice. God’s Ten Commandments provides a certain direction — an ethical standard to
Every culture have different beliefs. I went to a Catholic church for my cultural plunge project, and it was a new experience for me because it was my first time going to a church. The reason I picked Catholics as my focal group was because that I have heard that many people call themselves Christians, and a few identify themselves as Catholics. However, I thought these two focal groups are the same according to what I learned from my History textbook. I hoping I can use this cultural plunge activity to find out some more about Catholic.
In Montgomery Gentry’s hit song “Where I Come From”, he sings about his small town southern pride. In this country tune, the line “That little white church is gonna have a crowd,” is accompanied by lyrics about a town that could easily be located in East Tennessee. One thing that can be assumed from Gentry’s song is that the, “Little white church” he sings about is probably not a Catholic cathedral. In southern towns, like the one Gentry sings about, Protestant churches drastically outrank Catholic churches. In Kingsport Tennessee, Catholic churches are outnumbered forty two to one by Baptist churches alone. This statistic makes it easy to see why, as a whole, Protestants are uneducated and overly critical about the Catholic faith, the very religion that Protestantism is derived.
Humans are rational beings that use their intellect to try an achieve some sort of sense of the world, in other words truth. Truth is something that can not be denied as false. Since all humans are not part of the same culture, humanity as a whole does not share the exact notion of what is considered to be true. Humanity tries to achieve or know the truth through various outlets or practices. These different belief systems are understood to have been formed from their specific culture. Obviously, humanity has many different cultures and with that comes many different forms of truth seeking. There is one religion that claims to have the fullness of truth. That religion is the faith of Catholicism which means the Universal Church. Through Jesus Christ the founder and messianic figure of Catholicism, his Bride, the Church claims to unite humanity under the fullness of truth through the succession of Peter and tradition.
To do this people need to keep in mind the Ten Commandments as well as these eight beatitudes. Righteous people are the people who are good, keep in mind their virtues, justifiable, law-abiding, honest, noble, helpful, and faithful. In some situations a non-catholic person can become extremely annoyed with a follower of Christ because the way in which the follower of christ lives his/her life can make the un-catholic person feel bad about the way in which he/her has been living their life. “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2Timothy
For Protestants a saint is “anyone who believes in Jesus as a savior.” To juxtaposition that definition Catholics defines saints to be “a special group of holy people, who are venerated. They may act as intercessors between God and Man and may be invoked in prayer.” This deference in definition really shows the constancy of Protestants and their beliefs that Jesus and God are the only ones who truly have importance and focus of the religion. They deny the pope, deny the Virgin Mary to being anything holy, and reject the idea of holy saints and their ability to be mediums to connect with
Catholics believed that Priests and the Pope were able to forgive sins, at a price, through gifts, or indulgences.
But, who was considered an outsider? An outsider was the despised and unwelcomed one who belonged to a non-protestant religion. The religious beliefs of the outsiders were unacceptable and judged by the society. Others were considered outsiders because they simply belonged to a different racial group. Outsiders were seeking to fit into the American life, but were instead they were considered a threat and were excluded. Among the outsiders were the Catholics, Jews, African Americans, Native Americans, Non-Anglo Protestant such as German Lutherans, Christian Science and Jehovah’s Witnesses among others. The Catholic population was growing fast in the United States, and this was not only interpreted as a threat by Protestants but also invited persecution. In the 19th century, there were quite a few reasons that accounted for the fear of Protestants towards Catholics. Catholics and Protestants had different interpretations of moral visions, for example, “The principal difference in the message was that while Protestant preaching tended to emphasize individual experience of commitment and personal resolve to live a pure life, Catholic preaching stressed reliance on formal church practices, especially the regular confessions of sin to one’s priest and acts of penance and devotion.” Catholics had important beliefs and practices that separated them from the Protestants. For Catholics, churches were to be run by bishops and parish priests, while congregation had the right to choose the Protestants pastors. Authority was very important for Catholics; while Protestants believed the Bible was the final authority, Catholics final authority rested on the interpretation of the Bible by the church. Salvation was very important for Catholics, it was a central focus of their belief because, “Salvation was believed to come from the grace of God in
People can be outsiders in many different ways. I will explain three. You can be an outsider if you have different genetic, non-changeable, looks than everyone else. For example, ever since fifth grade, I have been one of the shortest girls. Every one else seemed to be growing faster than me. This made me and still makes me feel like an outsider. When I visited my old school, I didn’t feel like an outsider because a majority of the kids there were shorter than me. You can also feel like an outsider when your beliefs are outnumbered by the greater number. For instance, you could be the only Catholic kid in your school. This would make you an outsider. Anyhow, if you were Catholic in a Catholic school, you would no longer be an outsider. Finally,
The doctrine of salvation contains various aspects. The intent of this research paper is to provide a general overview of salvation from the angle of justification, propitiation, grace, redemption, and sanctification.
In catholic school I was taught that Jesus saves people and we know this through stories written in the bible. We see that Jes...
There are benefits and disadvantages of believing in the Catholic faith. A benefit of believing in the Catholic faith is that God will forgive you for your sins as long as you repent and are truly sorry for acts that you have committed. Catholics believe in a heaven and hell, which is an advantage and a disadvantage. As an advantage when a person dies, according to the Catholic religion, they will go to heaven as long as they followed a good Christian life.
