Recommended: Covenant with Moses
Creation can be defined as bringing something into existence. God used a flood to take wicked men out of existence, thus uncreating the majority of mankind. However by sparing Noah and establishing a new covenant with him God recreated a new world. A world less perfect than that in the story of Adam and Eve but also a world better than the one that was ruled by violence and wickedness. The flood narrative is a story about the uncreation of a wicked world and the recreation of a better one.
God first created man “in his own image” to live in a perfect world and to be perfect (Genesis 1. 27). He wanted mankind to look up to him and to have the same moral code he possesses. However, once man fell from God’s grace by eating from the fruit of the forbidden tree, God’s great plan of a perfect creation

6). However, “Noah” was able to “[find] favor” with God (Genesis 6. 8). Thus all humans were destroyed for their wickedness except Noah and his family because Noah was a righteous man. God uncreated his creation by way of a flood but then recreated his creation with Noah, the only righteous man left on earth. God commanded Noah’s family to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 9. 7) so Noah’s descendants can fill the earth. God established “a new covenant with” Noah, his “descendants and every animal” promising to never again destroy the earth with a great flood (Genesis 9. 7, 9). By blessing Noah to produce many offspring God takes the firsts steps towards recreation. He is creating a new world where all of men come from the seed of Noah and the great wickedness of the past will forever remain in the past. God establishes a covenant with Noah and his family promising that the next time mankind sins he will be more merciful. God has brought about great change, he recreated a new world in which all people come from the seed of Noah and in which his wrath against the sin of mankind will forever be
Covenant according in bible's point of view is a promise made by God to man. According to the book of Genesis, Chapter 6 Verse 13, as a result of human's disobedient and evil ways on earth, God had planned to put an end to humanity with flood. The covenants between God and Noah was established in Genesis Chapter 9 Verse 11. God promised Noah and his descendants, never again would he destroy the earth by flood of water because of the pleasant sacrifice offered to God by Noah. God also confirmed his covenant by putting up signs in the sky in the form of a rainbow. The reason Noah and his family weren’t destroyed in the flood was because Noah found grace in God's sight. What this means is that God do not establish any kind of covenant with just anyone. Clearly Abel, Noah and Abraham were unshakable, upright and obedient towards God’s command.
God is the creator, sustainer, judge, and redeemer. However, the most important characteristic of God is love. Love is an admirable quality. Genesis is an account of God’s magnificent creations. God saw that everything he created was good. The book of Genesis focuses on six persons and their families: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. God blessed man and all of his creations. For a moment, God’s creation was as He intended; paradise. Man sinned and God became unhappy, but he still provided for his people. God wanted man to repent. He still wanted things to be good once again. Noah was of the “few” good people on earth. Noah was obedient and honored God. God wanted to rid the earth of evil and start anew with righteous men and women. God wanted to give people a second chance and that was through Noah. God’s decision to save Noah and his family was, because He still longed for man’s obedience and faithfulness.
Desmond Alexander gives us God’s purpose and intentions for the world and mankind through the biblical meta-narrative. In conclusion, Alexander has done an excellent job of thoroughly presenting this story using different parts of the Bible without getting caught up in every single text or leaving out large portions of the Bible. He outlines the different themes throughout the story. These themes include God as the lamb, God as ruler and king, the temple, and God redeeming creation. These themes become major points in the biblical meta-narrative. They support the total story. This story answers the questions visited at the beginning ‘why does the earth exist and what is the purpose of human life?’ Each chapter supports his ‘blueprint for earth.’ (189) Alexander does more then just back up his claims, he shows a detailed outline using many bible references, as well as sighting many other sources on the
In the days of old -when life could reach more than nine hundred years- “sons of god”(6:2), angels and warriors ruled the earth. One walked the righteous path in the land of the wicked; one saw the grace of the Lord. In these chapters of Genesis, God is seen as an active participant in the story. Through His words and interactions, we can see that His character and relationship towards man is ever-changing and evolving. God is a ruler with expectations. What He had sought out to create in mankind was not being represented, all He saw was evil all the time.(6:5) In Genesis 6:6 we see a God that feels pain from a broken heart. From the grief he has sustained, he demands judgment and justice. His decision and reaction is to destroy all that He has created.(6:7) The Lord’s character here is repentant, judgmental and a potential destroyer. In His grief He finds “favor” for one man: Noah.(6:8) Though it was only one man in an entire generation, we see the grace of God present here. Because of Noah, God finds himself modifying his plans, “the planned destruction becomes a reconstruction” of this earth.(Harper Collins, Study Bible, Notes pp.13)
The book of Genesis is the story of creation according to Hebrew text, God creates the world as a paradise, a lush green world that is good, a world that is right, God himself is presented as being caring and fair. However later on there are many stories within Genesis which question God's morality towards his creations. The supposedly just God is at many times shown to be petty, deceiving, and unequal in his treatments towards his creations. As a result of God's own duplicity the men he created covenants with, God's numerous prophets and their respective bloodlines, themselves are often two-faced and unjust. Because of God's: ill treatment towards men, his favoring of certain individuals over others, and his own prophets being devious, God is in actuality a shallow and unfair being. Therefore God's actions in Genesis show that it is his own morale wrongs which create an imbalanced and chaotic world, one which is filled with cruelty and injustice.
In the narrative in the book of Genesis, there are two main objectives. The first is a general goal to create a complex world designed for ideal human existence according to divinely legislated principles. The second is God's desire to establish a great nation within this world. According to the narrative, God aims to achieve these goals by constructing frameworks for his goals and then enlisting carious humans to help see them to fruition. However, as amply demonstrated in Genesis, the human variable is volatile and frequently confronts God with instances of insubordination.
1. Flood is sent by God to destroy his creation, which has become corrupt and evil The humans are so wicked and evil that "it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart" (Gen. 6:6). He says,"I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth. . . " (Gen. 6:7)
A fugitive and a vagabond, you shall be on the earth” (Gen 4:11-12). Conclusion The first eleven chapters of Genesis teach us several things about the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and civilization. The Bible’s significance and teachings are pretty straightforward, beginning with Genesis and all of the chapters that follow. We can use Genesis to find solid ground in a stance on tough world issues such as the death penalty, abortion, and assisted suicide, to name a few.
The Old Testament shows a variety of portrayals for God. God is shown as wrathful through the early chapters of The Old Testament yet also loving and merciful. While the initial creation of the universe shows that God created everything to be good (Gen 1:10). Humanity deviates from this good and has to face God’s wrath. The Old Testament shows a coherent portrayal of God throughout the text. God is shown as merciful and full of love, but can be wrathful in order to get humanity on the right cause.
Men began to increase in number.“ The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil, continually. And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth and it grieved his to his heart.(Genesis 6:5-6) The LORD was going to wipe out the human race, the cattle, the crawling things and the fowl. God said “I regret that I have made them. (Genesis 6:7-8) The LORD found favor in the eyes of Noah. Noah was chosen by God to build an ark. Noah was chosen because he was a r...
There are eight Covenants in the Bible starts from Adamic Covenant to the Eternal Covenant. All these Covenants gave the idea that if people obey God’s promises, then God deliver blessings to the people as well as to their descendants, but if they violate the Covenant, the result will be punishment. For instance, If Adam was obedient to god’s Covenant then, Adam night have got everlasting life but instead Adam received the punishment of death. In addition to that the Covenant with Noah demonstrate God’s blessing to Noah as well to all the generations to come in the form of
Genesis is the first creation story. God creates, establishes, and puts everything into motion. After putting all of this in motion he then rests. He creates everything on earth in just seven days. Before creation Gods breath was hovering over a formless void. God made earth and all of the living creatures on earth out of nothing. There was not any pre-existent matter out of which the world was produced. Reading Genesis 1 discusses where living creatures came from and how the earth was formed. It’s fascinating to know how the world began and who created it all. In Genesis 1 God is the mighty Lord and has such strong power that he can create and banish whatever he would like. His powers are unlike any others. The beginning was created from one man only, God.
Genesis begins by stating that God has always existed and is Creator of all things. Because He is Creator of all things, that makes Him supreme over all things. God determines what is right and wrong and disciplines His creation according to His standard. God decided to share His kingdom with humanity by creating Adam and Eve in His image, that they might rule and moderate the creation in His name. Adam and Eve were responsible for reflecting the righteousness of God onto His creation and protecting it from corruption.
He did not make the world carelessly, as would be expected, of someone who knew that He would end up destroying and creating a new earth. Since, God is aware of the future, we can conclude that God made the Earth with the knowledge of Earth’s upcoming doom. As people made in the image of God, Humans should seek to emulate God’s treatment of others and the environment (Genesis 1:27). In this case, God takes the time and puts in the effort to make the Earth good. Therefore, humans should seek to spend time conserving and protecting the goodness and diversity of the Earth’s habitats in spite of Earth’s upcoming
