Many people inspire others to change the world. The three main topics are Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King jr, and Maya Angelou. The first person that should be admired is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela should be admired for how he made a difference in South Africa. To start off how Nelson Mandela changed South Africa, he became involved in anti-apartheid movement in his 20’s. Nelson Mandela also joined the African National Congress(ANC) in 1942.He created the Truth and Reconciliation commission to allow victims to discuss their treatments. As a conclusion, Nelson Mandela changed the society for the better. The second person that should be admired is Martin Luther King jr. Beginning in the 1890’s Jim Crow laws or also known as the color-line was put into effect in the Southern states. These laws restricted the rights of blacks and segregation from the white population. These laws were put into effect as partially a result of the reaction of the whites to blacks not submitting to segregation of railroads, streetcars, and other public facilities. African Americans Ids B. Wells, Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B Dubois had differing opinions on the color-line. Wells and Dubois felt the color-line created prejudice toward blacks and that the black population could not become equal with the whites under such conditions. On the other hand, Booker T. Washington thought the laws were a good compromise between the parties at the time.
Within mainstream society it seems as if there is not a great deal of emphasis on the contributions made by theologians in society, as well as contributions by theologians to religious thought. Particularly in Christendom, ecclesiastical assemblies are so consumed with vain ideas of worship, and content on hearing biblical messages that capitulate to their personal desires, that theological studies are often neglected. Yet the contributions theologians have made in society, and the impact these contributions have had on religious assemblies have been pivotal in guiding religious discourse on subjects such as ethics, morality, and social transformation. It is for this reason, that in this essay an attempt will be made to analyze three essays from three world-renowned theologians of the 20th century. The theologians are Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Walter Wink, all of which have produced the essays used for this analysis, and have written works that have completely challenged status quo religion, and changed the landscape of Christendom forever.
When comparing two essays, there are many different aspects that the reader can look at to make judgments and opinions. In the two essays that I choose, MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. 'Letter from Birmingham Jail', and FREDERICK DOUGLAS'S 'From Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave,' there were many similarities, but also many differences. Some of them being, the context, style, structure and tone. Many times when readings or articles are being compared, people over look the grammatical and structural elements, and just concentrate on the issues at hand. I believe it is important to evaluate both.
...el 125). Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are both remembered as strong leaders who shared an equal dream that one day their people would be free from racism and oppression. They believed in this dream so strongly they sacrificed their lives for it.
In the time of slavery there were several people who had an impact on freedom and equality for African Americans. Some people were Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and W.E.B Du Bois. W.E.B Du Bois was a great inspirational spokesperson. He quoted, “To be poor is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships.” He lead his own movement and it was called the Niagara movement. He was associated with the N.A.A.C.P. He wrote books on his studies. He was a tremendous black activist.
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X both talk about the oppression that the black community suffered, and they defended their positions and their thoughts.
... will always be remembered with other great non-violent activists such as Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Nelson Mandela, despite this, his determination, dedication, and selflessness will always remain unparalleled.
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois were both early leaders in the struggle for black equality. Washington was probably the preeminent black spokesman at the turn of the century. DuBois was one of the founders of the NAACP. Both agreed that the goal was full participation by blacks in American society, economically and politically. The differences in their backgrounds caused both men to come to different conclusions on how that goal could be reached.
Herbert hoover was an intelligent President in American history. He helped the United States during the Depression by starting the Construction of the Hoover dam. The building of the dam helped give people lots of jobs and income to help boost the economy. John F Kennedy was another loyal icon who is known for being assassinated but had great achievements. One important point in history he is known for is his actions with Cuba known as the bay of pigs. With Kennedy’s actions he was able to stop any nuclear war from happening and keep peace. Martin Luther King is a very well-known loyal leader in the African American community. He is remembered for his very outspoken speeches for equal rights for African Americans. King’s speeches helped open Americans’ eyes and resolve segregation.
How would you feel if you were told you can’t sit in the front of the bus or you can’t dine in a certain restaurants because of the color of your skin? The civil rights movement was a movement that held massive numbers of nonviolent protest against racial segregation and discrimination in America especially the southern states during the 1950’s and 60’s. The struggle of African Americans to gain equal rights in America during this time was a major problem. The civil rights movement was not only about stopping racial segregation amongst African Americans but also to challenge the terrible economic, political, and cultural consequences of that time. But with the help of great leaders and organizations in the civil rights movement, help brake the pattern of African Americans being discriminated against and being segregated. Martin Luther King Jr. And Maya Angelou were great leaders who had a huge impact on the civil rights movement; even though Dr. King was in the field marching and protesting to fight against segregation and Angelou wrote poetry to inspire the movement and people aware of segregation, they both helped put an end to segregation here in America (American civil rights movement).
The Civil Rights Movement is one of the most important events of the history of the United States. Although many people contributed to this movement, Martin Luther King, Jr., is widely regarded as the leader of the movement for racial equality. Growing up in the Deep South, King saw the injustices of segregation first hand. King’s studies of Mahatma Ghandi teachings influenced his views on effective ways of protesting and achieving equality. Martin Luther King’s view on nonviolence and equality and his enormous effect on the citizens of America makes him the most influential person of the twentieth century.

There are a ton of men who have changed the world in the past and now days. Some of the most impactful men who changed the world spiritually were reformers. They stood up for what they believed in and wouldn’t back down no matter what. They were persecuted, made fun, out casted, and put in jail with a trail. Some of these incredible men are George Wishart, Thomas Bilney, and Ulrich Zwingli.
Two significant social and political changes that occurred as the result of Nelson Mandela’s actions are abandoning peaceful protest in favor of violence and the ending of apartheid (classification and segregation based on race). Mandela was born in 1918, began his life as part of a tribal clan – the Thembu people. Mandela’s father was a respected counselor to the Thembu royal family. Mandela’s father died in 1927 when Mandela was just nine years old and was then raised by the Thembu chief while attending local boarding schools. Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1943 at the age of 25 and began his long journey to end white dominance and make South Africa a democratic state with equal rights for both white and black South Africans ("Frontline: Mandela," n.d.).
He worked to make a change by ending apartheid and identifying equality. All of his work finally made a change in 1994 during the election which change South Africa into
