Neil Armstrong is one of the well known astronauts in NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) history.In Augliaze County, located in midwestern Ohio, Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930. Almost forty years later on July 16, 1969, the mission to the moon, Apollo 11, began. Armstrong later resigned from NASA in 1970. Neil Armstrong later died on, August 25, 2012.
On the date of August 5, 1930, Neil Armstrong was born in Auglaize County Ohio. When he was only six Armstrong flew a Ford Tri-motor. Later on in his life, when he was thirteen, Armstrong’s family moved to Wapakoneta, Ohio. In 1947, Armstrong went to Purdue University, and studied Aeronautical Engineering. Two years later, in 1949, the United States Navy called him to be a Navy pilot. Then, one year later, Armstrong was sent on a mission to Korea in 1950. The three years that Armstrong had as a Navy pilot he was a part of 78 missions. He returned to Purdue University in 1952, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1955. In 1962, Armstrong became an astronaut for NASA, The days before taking off in Apollo 11, Armstrong had lots of training and practicing for the journey that lay ahead of him.
Armstrong did training in airplanes and under water; they even practiced placing the flag on the moon’s surface. To practice walking on the moon Armstrong was harnessed to ropes and walked sideways on a wall. In his memoir he said, “But somehow all that jive didn’t faze me at all, I was so happy to have some place to blow my horn” (Armstrong). Trouble didn't meet Mr. Armstrong until 1912 during a New Year’s Eve celebration. Louis Armstrong fired a pistol into the air and was immediately arrested and he spent the night in a jail cell. He was sentenced to a Colored Waif’s House, where he stayed for 18 months.

He had to work when he was 10 years old to help being income to the family. He sold newspapers, delivered coal, and even sang in a quartet to help get some money. He started to learn how to play the coronet after he was arrested for firing his step dads pistol and put in a military school. Peter Davis was the one that gave him lessons while in the confines of the military school. Soon after Armstrong had been given lesson on the coronet, he was appointed to band leader of the school where he lead the band for about 18 months before being released into his father’s custody. But, his father could not afford to keep Louis in the house so Louis had to move back in with his mother. There, he continued to sell newspapers and deliver coal until he was given a job at the local tavern. He was now getting paid to be a professional musician and perform to pimps and prostitutes every night. That job really kick started Armstrong’s career and put him on path to be the greatest jazz musician of all time.
