Whether it is in a positive or negative way, past events always affect a person’s character in the future. In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby’s past affects him in a negative way by leading him to corrupt ways, trying to recreate the past, and eventually also leading him to dying as a result.
In the story, Jay Gatsby loved Daisy when they first met in high school;however, she eventually left him and ended up marrying another guy, Tom, Tom and Daisy moved to New York, leaving Gatsby alone. Consequently, Gatsby moved to New York after inheriting money just to be near Daisy. He buys this big mansion, has big parties every week, and “invites” the whole neighborhood in hopes of her coming.
