Early Explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Magellan relied on landmarks for early navigation, which could result in serious miscalculations. Later explorers discovered they could use the stars as their primary choice for navigation. As technology increased the compass and sextant were used in navigation purposes. The needle of a compass always pointed north, while the sextant used adjustable mirrors to measure angles of the moon and stars. The sextant could only calculate latitude so a device called the chronometer was later invented by John Harrison to compute longitude. The Departmemet of Defense also controls GPS. The first GPS satellite was launched in 1978. The first ten satellites were called block I satellites. From 1989 to 1993, 23 production satellites called Block II were launched. The last satellite was launched in 1994 completing the system. From this point on with a GPS receiver costing only a few hundred dollars you could constantly learn your location on the planet.
GPS is the only system available today that will tell someone their exact position on Earth at any given time in any type of weather. There are 24 satellites in all, which orbit about 11,000 nautical miles above the earth. The satellites are monitored by ground stations located around the world and can transmit signals that can be detected by anyone with a GPS receiver. Perhaps not the night or city specifically, but the state of affairs in Boston, if not throughout The English Colonies, had declined to the point that British troops found themselves frequently assaulted with stones, dirt, and human feces. The opinions and sentiments of either side were certainly not clandestine. Even though two spectators express clear culpability for the opposing side, they do so only in alteration of detail. The particulars of the event unfold the same nonetheless. The happening at the Custom House off King Street was a catastrophic inevitability. Documents from the Boston Massacre trial, which aid us in observing from totally different perceptions. The depositions of witnesses of the event prove to be useful; an English officer Captain Preston and a colonial Robert Goddard give relatively dissimilar details. In spite of these differences, they still both describe the same state of affairs.
The Boston Massacre is considered by many historians to be the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The fatal incident happened on March 5 of 1770. The massacre resulted in the death of five colonists. British troops in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were there to stop demonstrations against the Townshend Acts and keep order, but instead they provoked outrage. The British soldiers and citizens brawled in streets and fought in bars. “The citizens viewed the British soldiers as potential oppressors, competitors for jobs, and a treat to social mores'; (Mahin 1). A defiant anti-British fever was lingering among the townspeople.
On March 5, 1770 a bloody conflict broke out that was later called the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre came to be when Edward Garrick a 13 year old apprentice taunted British sentry man Private Hugh White. Retaliating against the boy's insults Hugh White struck the child on the side of the head with his musket. Hearing garrick's cries of pain a large crowd gathered around Hugh White shouting and throwing things at him. Captain Thomas Preston was alerted of the situation and led six soldiers of the 29th regiment (and a non-commissioned officer) in Hugh's defense. The crowd grew larger as insults were thrown at both sides. The now mob-like crowd began throwing snowballs,ice, and sticks at the soldiers and threatening them with clubs. At
One factor that gave the Europeans the ability to expand their control while facing domestic conflict was their ability to advance exponentially in technology. Scientifically, when the cultures of 15th century Europe and the natives in the Americas are concerned, the two are fairly alike. In Europe,a great deal of work was done in astronomy. Of course this was because it was a necessity for navigation. From the studies of the heavens, the Europeans were also able to have calenders and a reliable way to keep time. Perhaps the best instrument was the astrolabe(a flat model of the night skies). (McGovern ,61). Despite these achievements, tables used for planetary positions were still very inaccurate. At the time of Columbus, the Earth was still the center of the universe and the planets revolved around it. It would be another 40 years before the Copernican system of the sun being the center of the universe was even suggested(McGovern, 66).
“Some of the world’s greatest inventions came from China.” Much of the world today has still been undiscovered. But without the compass the Chinese and Americans might not have known each other existed. With the compass, explorers were able to navigate their way through many of the seas and land into the Western Hemisphere.

The Astrolabe was like a smartphone that contained a calendar and a map. Without theses inventions, constellations, maps, and calendars may not be used today. Without a guide of the stars and sky, there would be no NASA, to conquer the moon and no airport, to help the humans travel through the sky. Even though the early inventions couldn't take the Muslims traveling the sky, they were able to travel the sea and land. The Age of Exploration began as a result of new technologies that guided explorers during sea voyages. Explorers used many tools and technologies during The Age of Exploration, to explore and make discoveries. Technology and tools that explorers used, included, caravels, compasses, astrolabes, and even sponsors. A sponsor is a person who gives money for an undertaking, such as a voyage. A sponsor would also provide money for materials needed for the voyage, such as, caravels, and other necessities. A caravel is probably the most important material needed for a voyage. A caravel is a ship designed for long voyages. Caravels have both square sails, and triangular lateen sails. However, they each provided/allowed different things. Square sails provided power, when lateen sails allowed quick turns. The compass, a Chinese invention, allowed sailors to track their direction. The Global Positioning System consists of three sections, 1.satellites which are orbiting the planet, 2.there are numerous control/monitoring centers here on the ground, and 3. gps receivers which are used by their owners. The satellites send down signals from orbit, which are received by GPS receivers on the ground in the air or on the water, the GPS receiver then converts this information into a location longitude, latitude and altitude along with time.
The GPS is sensing knowledge to help with navigation with the car and destinations. Autonomous cars are not yet available on a large scale of the world such as out of the United States of America, but have been programmed and developed to travel along the roads of America. Most autonomous cars are programmed only for American roads, we have made a big step towards the future with autonomous cars, with them being only available mainly in America, they are a luxury. When determining the right path, look at the hours the job would require, the years of schooling, the capability to take orders, and being able to keep pace on a scholarly level. Knowing the level of intellect a field necessitates allows one to determine if they can learn at the pace that is expected and required. Fields that fall into the scope of medicine can be intellectually demanding to study. The inclination to help others is not the only quality desired in nursing, the job is mentally as well as physically demanding. Specific nursing areas like psychiatry requires swift critical thinking and the ability to defuse dangerous situations with words, empathy, and a bit of tough love.
An example of a communications satellite is the EchoStar 3. It is used to send TV signals to homes in North America. For this simple use of broadcasting TV through these technical machines, there are over one hundred communications satellites orbiting earth today. Communication satellites are also used as relay stations in space. People use them to bounce messages from one part of the world to another. These messages can be telephone calls, TV pictures, or even Internet connections. Many communications satellites have footprints. Communication satellites like the EchoStar 3 are in a geosynchronous orbit. This means that the satellite always stays over one spot on Earth. The area on Earth that it can see is called the satellite's footprint. For example a footprint that covers all of Africa can be used by one person to send a message to another person in Africa. One could also use communications satellites as relay stations to send messages to people over a system of satellites with many footprints.
