Purpose of the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
National Board Certification is the occupation’s label of proficient teaching established by teachers for teachers. It is assembled with National Board Standards and the five core propositions, difficult and performance-based, based on several measures, peer-reviewed, voluntary, valid and reliable. “To date, more than 112,000 teachers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia have achieved National Board Certification” (“National Board Certification”). It is very beneficial for teachers and I think the National Board Certified teachers make better educators.

NBCTs (National Board Certified Teacher) have certification for the subject or subjects they teach. They have knowledge and experience in teaching it, and they are trained to handle the questions of the students have based on their assumptions in class. They know several different strategies to teach students so they understand better.
Proposition three is “teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning” (“National Board Certification”). NBCTs provide productive instruction. They use techniques to keep the students focused, engaged, and motivated. They know how to make a disciplined learning environment, and also how to put together the instructions so the students will follow them. NBCTs know how to measure the growth of an individual student and the whole class as well. Students of NBCTs leave behind their co-mates in other classrooms. When the teachers achieve the certificate, they show that they have the skills and knowledge required to improve student education and help them succeed. This certification gives the teachers access to leadership opportunities and career improvement. Also, before accomplishing the certification, teachers can implement the materials they are learning to assist their students every day. Another benefit of the certification is that it lets teachers to move much easily from state to state without any tension because many states relates National Board Certification with state licensure. A Certified Nursing Assistant has a very demanding job. It drains a person's physical strength by lifting residents but, it can drain the worker of emotions as well because of the loss, pain, and abandonment surrounding many residents. The American Board of Nursing Specialties describes certification as the proper acknowledgment of specialized skills, knowledge, and practice demonstrated by the accomplishment of standards outlined by a nursing specialty. The certification associated with specialty practice regularly functions as a professional landmark. Validation by an outside source endorses that an individual has met the established national standards. When an advanced practice nurse prepares to become certified in his/her specialty there must be proper preparation in order to be successful.
Throughout high school and during my undergraduate studies, education was never a top priority for me. Only during the past two years, in the "real world", have I realized the importance of education. I look back at those years and wish I had done more and realized all the potential I had in my hands and not wasted so much time. During my undergraduate career my social activities consumed my life. My friends were not motivated to do well in school so I followed their lead. My grades were low, and I did not even care. After I graduated in 1997 with a Psychology B.A. and lost touch with my old friends and old ways, I have realized that I should have spent more time doing some soul searching and thinking what it was that I wanted to do with my life. I liked Psychology but what I really wanted to do was work with children more closely. I had spent my junior and senior years involved in internships at Head Start and at a High School in a Program for teenaged mothers. I loved my work there. At Head Start I was a Teacher Aid for the pre-school, teaching the children to read, numbers etc. And at the High School I counseled the teenaged mothers, took care of their kids while they went to school and after the school day I tutored them with their homework. After being out of school for a while, I started to miss that. The feeling that I was teaching something those kids, the feeling that I was making a difference. I was determined to find a job in education, with my background in Psychology, how hard could it be? I found work at a residential school for runaways and abused teenaged females. It was great! I was ready to go, I was going to change the world and change those girls lives. What I didn't realize is that will alone does not make me a teacher and that I needed training, a lot of training. I made a lot of mistakes in that job. I got discouraged and decided to forget about working with children, forget teaching and do something else that paid more. So, I got a job as a Secretary, I did that for about two years. Teaching, working with children was always on my mind.
Standardized testing has taken over the education realm and led to a shift in the institutional goals and values of education. In the last 40 years, standardized exams have changed; they were once used to determine the learning level of students, but now they are being used to determine the teacher’s ability. Standardized tests do not measure education quality and are incorrectly used, leading to the wrongful evaluation of teachers and the limiting of education for students by schools.
