A.2.1 The Definition of Narrative Text

A narrative is kind of text having social function to amuse, entertain and to deal with actual or vicarious experience in different ways. Narrative text is a text which contain about story (fiction, non fiction, tales, folktales,fables, myths) and its plot consits of the story (complication) then followed by the resolution.
Knapp (2005 : 220) say that, “Narrative text is one of the most commonly read, though least understood of all the genres. Narrative also has a powerful social role beyond that of being a medium for entertainment. Narrative is also a powerful medium for changing social opinions and attitudes”.

Resolution
The problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic) ending.
d. Re-orientation
This is a closing remark to the story and it is optional. It consists of moral lesson, advice or teaching from the writer.

A.2.3. Type of Narrative Text
There are many different types or genre of narrative texts. There can be a combination of narratives within each of this different types. A genre is some kind categories. The nation of genre is to help us generate story ideas.
According to Klingner et al (2007: 77) “Narrative include different types, or genres, that can vary some what from this basic story grammar template. These includes realistic fiction, fantasy, fairtales, fables, mysteries, humor, historical fiction, plays, and real-life adventures”.
Meanwhile according to Knapp (2005 : 225) there are many type of narrative text are humor, romance fantasy, fairy stories, science fiction, horor stories, folk tails, and legend.
