It is Sunday morning, I head to my front porch to greet the birds that are chirping beautiful tunes and to feel the small breeze hit my face with delicacy. It is the perfect weather for a long walk on the beach which I can spot at the end of the horizon. This was not an option since I had to rush back to my room and get ready for church. Today is Palm Sunday, one of the most important feasts for the Coptic Church. It is 7:20 am, I am in the car sitting beside my sister that is half asleep while listening to my parents proposing plans for tonight. We finally arrive at church and we are forced to park in the plaza across the street since the church's parking lot is already full. Suddenly, I hear an old man yelling ''Run for your lives! They are here! They are coming towards us!''. I feel like my feet are nailed to the ground. I cannot think, I cannot move, I cannot speak. I am still repeating the words that were uttered by the old man in my head but the shock is making these simple words impossible to understand. It is 11:10 am, I open my eyes that were glued shut from a bright light that pierced the back of my retina. I see a huge fire that forced the cross on top of the dome to plunge towards the dusty ground and crumble to pieces. I keep hearing this little boy screaming '' It is them again! The men with long beards in white torn robes! I saw them mom...I saw them!'' I rush towards the church to check on my family that were saying their last farewells to their friends. I glimpse some bodies on the ground, some of them are moving with difficulty, some are not.
