Melissa a 14 years old girl who cares about friends more than she cares about herself. Melissa is the tomboy and likes to hang out with boy’s more than girls because boys understand her more(but she still hangs out with girls). Melissa cares about all her friends and always want to see a beautiful smile on their face. She tries to cheer them up and help them out even if it means she has to make herself feel terrible. Lauren is Melissa’s best friend. Lauren is the one girl that is funny and hangs out with Melissa almost every day to keep each other entertained and just have fun. In third grade Melissa just moved to a different elementary school (Avondale West). Melissa only knew one person there who was her summer best friend Britney. Melissa …show more content…
and Britney knew each other from the pool they went to summer of 2008. When third grade started Melissa hung around Britney because she was shy and didn’t know anyone else. So Britney introduced Melissa and Lauren. Then there was last but not least Anna. Anna was Britney and Lauren's friend from Kindergarten. The Four became such good friends that they would sit by each other when they could, they would always be partners when it was time to group up, and everyday they would hang out at recess. At each of their birthday parties it would be just them four. Britney and Melissa would spend the night at each others houses every single weekend. By Fourth grade Britney wasn’t as close to Melissa as they use to be. but the group still talked about each other’s crushes. Ate lunch together, hung out at recess, tried to be on the same team during gym, and loved to make each other laugh. But this was the year we were aloud to join the play. The play this year was “Willie Wonka” Melissa and Lauren wanted to do backstage decorating. Britney wanted to play Violet Beauregarde. Sadly Britney did not get the part but she was Grandma Josephine which she liked because she got to dress up and put makeup on. Melissa and Lauren got backstage decorating. The backstage leader was a 5th grader who just wanted to be in control he was mean. But Melissa and Lauren got to talk about him when no one else was around which cheered them up a little but they got really happy when they got to create some of the outfits for the play which meant they got to go down to the basement and look at all the clothes. The basement was scary when it was just them two but when it was just them two they were strong. Some of the fabric they used smelled like old people and mold and it made Melissa itch sometimes. When Melissa and Lauren finished the out fits before it was due instead of telling the leader they just stayed in the basement trying on clothes and playing around, Even though it didn’t smell good they didn’t care because they had fun. They became the closest friends out of the whole group. Fifth Grade… The group started to split up Britney made a new best friend named Lily they became really close friends did everything together. The group still hung out Britney just wasn’t there as much as she use to be. Melissa’s parents weren’t able to pick her up from school on tuesday’s and they didn’t want her to walk home from the busy, noisy, and violent streets. Melissa and Lauren thought it would be an amazing idea if Melissa came over every Tuesday. Once Lauren got in her mother's car she said “ Mom can melissa come to our house after school since her parents are working and can’t pick her up?” Lauren's mom liked Melissa so she said “as long as you both get your homework done first.” Lauren got really excited. So every Tuesday Melissa would come over to Lauren's house. Melissa and Lauren fought a lot but they always said sorry and forgave each other because they knew it was always the stupid little things. The first semester Melissa told on a lot of people because she thought it was the right thing to do. But that whole semester she was call a snitch including in fourth grade she got sad about that so she didn’t tell at all anymore and if a friend told a secret she wouldn’t tell ANYONE. Melissa became the most trustworthy person at the school and she enjoyed that better. Close to the end of the year and toward the end of class the teacher decided it was time to clean the classroom up a little. There was a bathroom in the classroom and Lauren and Britney needed to wet down their paper towel. Britney decided it would be funny to tickle Lauren sense she was a ticklish girl. Lauren screamed and slammed against the door sense she wasn’t expecting it. The teacher yelled for Lauren to go the office. Lauren never got sent to the office so she started crying. Since it was a Tuesday Melissa ran to Lauren’s mom and said that she was in the office crying Lauren’s mom said “What Happened” Melissa was worried and answered “Britney tickled Lauren and she screamed and slammed against the door so Lauren got sent to the office.” Melissa Stayed in the car and waited for her best friend come to the car. She said everything was ok and that she didn’t get in trouble. Laurens mom was really mad that a friend would do something that disrespectful. Lauren was glad that Melissa was coming to her house after school. She needed her best friend at that time. Middle School Started, Everything changed for everyone.
Britney was one of the prettiest girls in the whole school, most all the guys drooled over her even the eighth graders. She was also one of the most popular girls. Which changed everything between Britney and Melissa they didn’t have any classes together and she hung out with plenty of other people. Every once in awhile she would talk to Melissa. Melissa also took britney home everyday. Melissa was really sad that Lauren didn’t go to the same middle school she wanted her best friend with her. Anna became friends with other people. Melissa’s friends were mostly guys even though they acted like she was one of the stupidest people. Melissa’s Favorite teacher was her language art teacher Miss. Malek she was young, nice, beautiful, funny, and so on. Miss. Malek always cheered Melissa up. Melissa was pretty smart in Science and History. she thought she had friends in that class but most of them just wanted the answers to the work or when it was project time they wanted to be her partner because they knew that she would just do the whole thing and she would lie to the teacher saying that the others helped with the work so they would get credit even though they didn’t work. Lauren and Melissa got to see each other on the weekend. So they got to see each other and gossip about stuff, which they
enjoyed. Seventh Grade, was fun for the whole group. Melissa had a lot of friends to hang out with. Britney was still a very popular girl. Britney played the piano and saxophone, joined volleyball, and was an all A student. Anna didn’t hang out with Melissa any more they didn’t talk. They became strangers. Britney and Anna still hung out. Anna became a very athletic girl played volleyball, did track, and basketball. Lauren had a lot of fun at her new school she didn’t have too many friends because her friends from elementary school went to a different school she technically left them even though they kinda split apart anyway in middle school.(old friends were Melissa, Britney, and Anna) She got to see Melissa on the weekends which was fun. On weekday’s they used facetime a lot. Lauren and Melissa helped each other with homework. They talked about who they had a crush on. When one of them was having a bad day they would make eachother laugh because they hated seeing each other sad. Melissa didn’t know where to sit during lunch so she sat with one other friend named Isabella they were really close friends in middle school. Isabella isn’t able to sleep over at people's house and can barely ever go to someone's house so Melissa said “when we get older i'm gonna invite you to a sleepover and you're going to come and we will have a lot of fun because you're missing out on a lot.” Isabella laughed and was fine with that. Isabella got Melissa into watching all different kinds of tv shows they talked about the movies all the time during lunch for example Doctor Who, Sherlock, Fruit Basket, and Supernatural. Melissa became a Doctor Who fan she watched it every night on Netflix. After a while during lunch Melissa and Isabella got bored so they decide to look for somewhere else to sit. Melissa asked a boy in there class if they could sit at their table she said “sure” So they did the other boys didn’t agree at first but after a week they were all enjoying themselves. The table became Hilarious. Towards the end of the year a the boy that Melissa liked asked her out. Melissa said “yes”. They dated all summer but Melissa’s parents wouldn’t let her do much with him. She only went to his house once out of the whole summer. Eighth Grade… Melissa and Britney are hanging out more. Melissa has to take Britney home everyday and sometimes Melissa will stay at Britney's house after school. They played video games, helped each other with homework. Melissa broke up with her boyfriend. She didn’t like that at all she cried about it for days. Melissa went in a full depressed mode For four months. She sat alone at lunch. People asked her what was wrong “it’s just family stuff.” But yet it was way more… She would over think all day and night. She didn’t smile as much. She didn’t want to live anymore. She lost a good friend because she kept talking stuff she shouldn’t have said. People turned against the girl. They fought all the time. Melissa became a jerk to this girl. It didn’t help that Melissa didn’t even wanna go home. Melissa’s parents fought all the time. They couldn’t have one normal conversation unless it was yelling at eachother. She couldn’t stand getting yelled at home or hearing yelling at home and then coming to school hearing the same thing. Melissa still sat alone at lunch even though she wasn’t as depressed she still acted like it. She couldn’t stand all the drama and things just making her more and more depressed… Last but not least Ninth grade… EVERYTHING CHANGED. Britney and Melissa don’t talk anymore, they barely see each other. Anna became very popular and doesn’t hang out with Melissa. Lauren lost weight and became a very very popular girl at her school and doesn’t have time for Melissa anymore. Isabella doesn’t have any classes with Melissa they don’t see eachother anymore. Melissa gets ignored by the people that went to her middle school. No one wants to sit by her. Sometimes she likes getting ignored, but when she doesn’t like that when she tries to join in people just talk louder and act like she’s not there. She likes being invisible but every once in awhile she would like to be seen. Melissa changes her looks they notice the first day but the second day she is seen by no one again. No shoulder to lean on. No friends that care what she has to say only are about themselves. No one to trust. Everyone has moved on She’s all alone. Can’t tell anyone her secrets. No siblings that she can talk to. Melissa won’t tell her parents because something will happen and they will end up yelling at each other. Doors will slam and she will end up in her room Alone. But yet this young 15 year old girl will still listen to someone that is hurt and needs help. She still cares about other more then herself. She will get through it. But in the end she is ALONE IN THE DARK...
Rachel was Melinda's friend all of middle school but she turned out to be a complete jerk to Melinda. Heather was a fake friend who only stuck by her side until she was accepted in a ¨cool¨ group. David Petrakis is a nerd who is almost in every one of Melinda's classes. They grow close mostly because they both have no friends, but he is a true friend. Towards the end of the group Melinda starts to come out to Rachel about why she called the police, but Rachel just got even more upset. Melinda thankfully realizes how bad of a friend Rachel is on page 198 ¨I don't want to be cool. I want to grab her by the neck and shake her and scream at her to stop treating me like dirt. She didn't even bother to find out the truth – what kind of friend is that? ¨ Melinda gets close to her art teacher. Art is the one class that Melinda enjoys because she gets to be with her new friend Ivy. Ivy and David are the only people Melinda has, but that is enough for her. On the first day of school Melinda recalls being the only person sitting alone on page 134.¨ I see a few friends people I used to think were my friends—but they look away. ¨ Positively Melinda has found the two only true friends in her school and starts to become a more optimistic
The stereotypical girls in highschool can either be very negative or positive when it comes to engaging with interpersonal communications. To display various examples of interpersonal relationships, there is a movie called Mean Girls. The movie demonstrates how a group of girls in a public high school survive their way through life with gossip as one of their sources of communication. The main characters involved in this movie are Cady Heron, Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith. These girls are known as, “The Plastics,” the most popular girls in the school. However, Cady was not one of them, she only hung out with them to sabotage them because they would bully Janis Ian, the first friend Cady made since she moved to that school.
The four girls friendships are relationship oriented because the girls enjoy doing activities outside of school together. They love going shopping together and going on vacation together.
In the movie, 16 year old Cady Heron was the daughter of zoologist parents. They had been on a 12 year research trip in Africa before returning to the states so Cady was homeschooled most of all her life. While attending public school for the first time, Cady is swept away by who she thought she was to the new person she had become. A “plastic” is what she had become. The Plastics were the most popular girls in school, but also the messiest and most insecure. Downing others to make themselves feel better was what The Plastics lived for. It took for chaos, confusion, and betrayal for them to get to the gist of who they really are as individuals. The adolescence period in one’s life is a very tough and exciting time. A teen is constantly going through changes daily; physically, mentally and emotionally. Those with a strong sense of self make a smooth transition during this period, while others still looking for a sense of belonging seem to struggle. During the middle school years, they begin to develop more interpersonal relationships and peer acceptance be...
Eventually, the main character finds herself in an odd place between the popular girls and two awkward friends Erikson’s adolescence stage of development, describes how the adolescent must struggle to discover and find his or her own identity. While trying to find their identity, the youth most often will negotiate and struggle with interactions of “fitting in.” An example was towards the end of the movie starts to realize how her adapted identity affected those around her and close to her. Cady realized that her changes affected her grades, relationships’ and rapport. Cady identified to who she really was and later reverted back to the humbled honor roll student she
Charlie goes to a foot ball game and approaches Patrick because he is the only one that seems approachable to him then they talk. “Hey you’re in my shop class!” He’s a very friendly person. “Hey I’m Charlie.” I said, not to shy. “And I’m Patrick. And this is Sam.” He pointed to a very pretty girl next to him. And she waved to me.” That is the start of their friendship because then after the football game they go to a place called Big Boy and they talked and asked a lot of questions. (Page 19) In Mean Girls Katy at her first day of school tries to talk to people at a table and they just get give her a bad response, then when the second day of school happens she walks into class and Damian and Janis talks to her and they get friendly. Katy then asks them where her next class is. They then go to lead Katy out of the lunchroom to her next class but they lead her to the football field and say “sit down friend”. Katy skipped her first health class because she was called friend. These two concepts of how Charlie and Katy don’t know how to socialize shows up by the fact that Charlie felt uncomfortable to approach anyone till he saw Patrick but with everyone else he avoided because he didn’t know how to socialize. Then when Katy tried to approach people they just ignored her because she didn’t know how to socialize in her school. As soon as they both realized they had friends they felt good and
*In The Kind of Friends We Used to Be, there are two main characters, Kate and Marylin, but I’m just going to do Marylin for the parts where information about only a single character is needed.
Martin and Kris wanted to be closer to the family because they were already at least 2 hours away from the rest of their family. In late August they decided to look for houses on a small town called Plymouth Wisconsin. My dad was looking for an engineering job at Kohler Company. This way we would only be about an hour away from most of our family. Soon after the move, Emily would start kindergarten at Fairview Elementary School. Emily cry the first week of school when she realized her mother would not be coming with her. She was especially sad too because she was in a new environment and she did not know anyone. Luckily Lauren took Emily and on the first day and they were best friends all through
A movie about a girl in a clique that has to deal with teen suicide with a rebel teen heartthrob. To being our comparison of bad characters versus good girls gone bad; we have a girl named Veronica. Veronica is a teen that is sick of her popular friends. She is superior throughout the movie, because she isn’t compensating for anything nor does she feel inferior; but you can tell she is losing herself completely because of a hot bad boy. There are times where the main Heather is trying to control her; but she fights back and even when she falls to pressure she still tries to distance herself from them. This is what makes her--her own person. She is disgusted by people trying to gain something from the “suicides” at school and she’s disgusted with the other Heather when she notice her wearing main Heather’s bow. Those are great examples of her not trying to gain something for her own benefit. While she is a teen who is superior, her life style isn’t just social interest. The reason why I would say she is social interest because at the beginning we see that she is trying to talk to more people beyond her clique or social order. She also cares about others feelings and doesn’t see the “dorks” as just dorks. For an example, when Heather D tells Veronica that an unpopular girl tried to kill herself, “so she can copy the cool kids”; in shock and anger Veronica slaps Heather D. Another reason why Heather
As a young child in elementary school, I struggled in the regular classes of language arts and math, and this caused my teachers to put me into Special Education. I recall hearing the regular students call me “stupid” all the time behind my back. When I had my regular classes in Social Studies or Science none of the other students wanted to be my partner in the group projects. I felt like an outcast, and my self-confidence was exceedingly low. However, I knew that I was not the smartest kid, but I was a hard worker. I begged my mom to help me convince the teachers to allow me to to join the regular classes in the 5th grade. Fortunately, my teachers agreed, and in my regular language arts class I was motivated to prove to my teachers, my classmates,
I’m sure almost everyone has seen the very popular and very successful movie Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan as a high school girl trying to adjust to a new school and make new friends along the way. She has just moved from Africa and is starting at a brand new school. She becomes friends with two different friend groups, “The Plastics”, and “The Losers”. Cady is in constant battle with trying to please both groups and make everyone, including herself, happy. On the other hand, a sequel came out years later, Mean Girls 2. This movie had the same idea as did the first film. A girl named Jo is the new girl at North Shore High. She is totally against “The Plastics” and the drama that comes along with them. So she
As time goes on Sarah and Will remain best friends all the way into high school. Will dates some girls but nothing ever feels
The adolescence is proposing questions of self-identity and trying to understand more of self during these years. Mean Girls emphasizes these self-identifications by capturing different cliques and group of people that the high schoolers associate and label themselves as. For instance in the film, Cady is being accepted by Janis and Damian, but they want Cady to engage in a risky behavior by associating herself as “The Plastics.” This plan started out with the intention of trying to find out more high school secrets and to humiliate “The Plastics,” but Cady turned more like them as she received more acceptance by them. Mean Girls demonstrates not only the sense of self emerging during the adolescent age, but the struggles of all it takes to find a sense of self-identity. Cady eventually put her relationship with Janis and Damian, parents, and acquaintances of school on the line by trying to maintain her “Plastic”
The movie that I chose to do my analysis on, is Mean Girls because it is my all-time favorite movie. I watched it a million times, it never gets old and plus I know every single line in the movie. The main character Cady, played by Lindsay Lohan, exhibits how to go from being a nerd, popular, hated and rehabilitated all in one school year. It’s hilarious movie about high school but, it also covers many interpersonal concepts that we learned in class like: verbal communication, conflict and relationship dynamics. Before I provide my analysis, I’ll present my brief summary on the movie Mean Girls.
The first day of school started and Kandy was in 10th grade. Her new clothes got her a lot of attention, everyone complimented her about how they loved what she was wearing. That was the only thing she was confident about, her clothes. She knew that her style was awesome. Her best friend, Ang, was in two of her classes. Kandy thought that this would be the best year of school because she never had any friends in any of her classes before. Turns out they both had the same lunch. They would talk up by the road, on the sidewalk, to Speedway everyday for lunch. For some reason people would always honk at them and one day a girl yelled out the window and called them sluts. Obviously because she was jealous. The first few days of school went by fast, then kept getting slower and slower.
