Definition
Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which an individual has over-inflated confidence, a need for attention and admiration, and no empathy for others. However, underneath this overly confident exterior lies very fragile self-esteem that can be damaged by even the smallest amount of criticism. Persons with this disorder believe that everyone owes them special favors and become very distraught if they do not get their way.
Causes
The cause of narcissistic personality disorder is unknown. However, the following factors are believed to play a role:
