According to the author, Belize seems to be a wonderful place. It appears to be rather warm in Belize however, it is tolerable because one can smell the tropical flowers in the air. Also, most of the time the sun is shining brightly and its’ reflection is shining on the water. Furthermore, the author states that there are verandas and gardens in Belize. This indicates that there are probably wealthy individuals who live in Belize. In contrast, the author explains that there are homes that are less extravagant but, everyone is able to share the amazing view of the ocean. In addition, the author introduces a character named Ramon who enjoys being an anthropologist. Therefore, after reading the text about Nancy Drew’s experience with both men one can conclude that Belizeans take pride in their professions and love sharing their country with others. Furthermore, one can tell that the inhabitants of Belize admire the country’s history because other characters share information with Nancy Drew on several occasions. For instance, the exchange student whose name is David shared with Nancy that Belize has the second longest coral reef in the world. This means that people love the history of the country and are proud of its accomplishments. Next, the author shares details of the Belizeans being very friendly or kind. One example would be when the pirates were stealing boats but, being certain that the victims had life rafts and food and water. The pirates also place GPS devices on the rafts so that they could locate the victims at sea. This was very interesting because it seems ironic to steal from people and hold a gun to their heads but, treat them with care and respect as well. Another example would be when Nancy Drew attended a party and the Belizeans welcomed her and asked her about her native country. This was exciting to read because it shows that while they love their country, they are also interested in learning about other cultures. In contrast, the author discusses some of the disadvantages that Belize has as well. For example, when Nancy Drew meets David’s parents they begin to explain that Belize has a poor economy. In addition, they also want to preserve the natural state of the country. This indicates that even though Belize is a gorgeous country, the citizens are trying to survive through financial hardship.
