According to the author, Belize seems to be a wonderful place. It appears to be rather warm in Belize however, it is tolerable because one can smell the tropical flowers in the air. Also, most of the time the sun is shining brightly and its’ reflection is shining on the water. Furthermore, the author states that there are verandas and gardens in Belize. This indicates that there are probably wealthy individuals who live in Belize. In contrast, the author explains that there are homes that are less extravagant but, everyone is able to share the amazing view of the ocean. This indicates that even though some Belizeans do not live lavish lifestyles, they aren’t excluded from enjoying the beautiful scenery or indulging in some of the luxuries that …show more content…
In addition, the author introduces a character named Ramon who enjoys being an anthropologist. Therefore, after reading the text about Nancy Drew’s experience with both men one can conclude that Belizeans take pride in their professions and love sharing their country with others. Furthermore, one can tell that the inhabitants of Belize admire the country’s history because other characters share information with Nancy Drew on several occasions. For instance, the exchange student whose name is David shared with Nancy that Belize has the second longest coral reef in the world. This means that people love the history of the country and are proud of its accomplishments. Next, the author shares details of the Belizeans being very friendly or kind. One example would be when the pirates were stealing boats but, being certain that the victims had life rafts and food and water. The pirates also place GPS devices on the rafts so that they could locate the victims at sea. This was very interesting because it seems ironic to steal from people and hold a gun to their heads but, treat them with care and respect as well. Another example would be when Nancy Drew attended a party and the Belizeans welcomed her and asked her about her native country. This was exciting to read because it shows that while they love their country, they are also interested in learning about other cultures. In contrast, the author discusses some of the disadvantages that Belize has as well. For example, when Nancy Drew meets David’s parents they begin to explain that Belize has a poor economy. In addition, they also want to preserve the natural state of the country. This indicates that even though Belize is a gorgeous country, the citizens are trying to survive through financial hardship. Furthermore, they are concerned that they will lose the
I was born in Guatemala in a city called, called Guatemala City. Life in Guatemala is hard which is why my parents brought me into the United States when I was eight months old. Some of the things that makes life in Guatemala hard is the violence. However, Guatemala has plenty of hard working men, women, and children who usually get forced to begin working as soon as they are able to walk. However, unlike many other countries, Guatemala has a huge crime rate. I care about the innocent hard working people that live in Guatemala and receive letters, threatening to be killed if they do not pay a certain amount of money at a certain amount of time.
Belize is also very open and out of the closet. The way he speaks to people clearly indi...

In summary, the small country of Costa Rica has always been a highly sought after vacation spot. However, the influx of drugs and the deforestation have caused tourists, including myself, to question the desirability. Nonetheless, according to Forbes, Costa Rica is “The Happiest Place on Earth. Its national conservation policies, small ecological footprint, high quality of life and life expectancy rate are all exceedingly above par.”(Greenstein) I feel that Costa Rica would be an intriguing place to visit because of its vibrant landscapes and the abundance of incredible Catholic Churches.
...xtent will this essay bring about a change in Antigua? The Antiguan scene can only be modified by the government choosing to run the country in a more manner that will benefit everyone associated with Antigua, especially its natives. The native’s behaviours are related to their jealousy of tourists, and of the tourist’s ability to escape their own hometown to take a vacation. While a tourist can relate to the idea that the exhaustion felt after a vacation comes from dealing with the invisible animosity in the air between the natives and themselves, having this knowledge is almost as good as not having it, because there is nothing that the tourist, or the reader, can really DO about it! If Kincaid’s purpose is solely to make tourists aware of their actions, she has succeeded. If Kincaid’s purpose is to help Antigua, she may not have succeeded to the same magnitude.
societies to reexamine their view of the Caribbean. In this paper the following topics in The
In conclusion, Kincaid describes the state of Antigua in a very subjective manner. She is very straightforward about her resentment towards the ignorant tourists who exploit the poor Antiguan people for their pleasure, the corrupt government, the passiveness of the Antiguan people and their cultural subservience to the British, and finally the English who enslaved, and colonized Antigua. Throughout the book, Kincaid uses simplistic diction that can be very confrontational to get her points across. In other areas, Kincaid is also sarcastic, especially towards the ignorance of the tourist and the passiveness of the Antiguan people. Furthermore, Kincaid suggests that Antigua’s environmental constraints as being a small place also reflects how trapped the Antiguan people are in the shadow of the colonial past.

Once I was able to dig deeper I found out that Costa Rica is a very interesting country with fun and exciting adventures waiting like; hiking next to a volcano at night, rappelling down a waterfall, or ever soaking in a hot spring. I do not know about you but my bags are packed and I’m headed for the airport right now. If only I did not have class tomorrow, I can dream right? Well the first major topic I am going to start with is the general overview of Costa Rica, so let us get started shall we.
Living in the Caribbeans can be extremely nice at times, lots of people go there to vacation and sightsee because it is known for its beauty but when the weather is bad it is BAD. Also mosquitoes are largely apart of the caribbean's so if you plan on living there I suggest you back out now. The region is a jungle type.
In Belize different societies are creating conflicts in order for them to see change, for example the Mayan community fought for their land and the LBGT society fought for their right of freedom. The Mayas took the Government of Belize to court for customary land rights. On court days the Mayas would assembly in the Battlefield park showing their support to the caused at hand. The Mayas had conflict among themselves well because some wanted customary lands while others wanted leased land. Both parties assembled outside the court room to show support while the court case is going on (7 News Belize, June 10, 2009). The Mayas went to court on numerous occasions. They won their case but the Government of Belize does not act in accordance with what the courts put in place so they end up in court repeatedly. The Mayas show the dedication in what they want they refuse to back down until they get their customary land and the Government of Belize abide by what the court put in place. The Maya case is the first of its kinds to go to the Caribbean Court of Justice. Like the unionist in 2005 the Mayan society is making history. The UNIBAM community, defends the rights of Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Gay, and Transgender (LBGT) persons, also went to court, they wanted in section 53 of the constitution because they “believe that at section 53 of the constitution violates their rights to have sexual relations with same sex partners.” (7 News Belize, Dec. 5, 2012). The LBGT community wants equality. Their main focus is that they are like any other human being in Belize and due to that they should be treated fairly. They do not think that they should be judged or treated differently just because their preferences are different from majority of the Belizean...
Belize has gone through a lot of changes since the British settled here and these changes were for the better. Many different people, men and women, were responsible for the proper molding of this country and its people. These people are called heroes/heroines and Belize had many of them. These people contributed a lot to this country and we, as Belizeans, should be thankful and respectful of these people because of their great efforts and dedication in making Belize a better place.
