There’s been a major revolution in the 21st century to eliminate bullying, yet it’s almost picked up in new ways. Bullying is usually physical beating another person up, constantly threatening someone, or just making fun of people through name calling. Name calling is a way to rename our loved ones. Constantly friends are calling one another hoes, sluts, and assholes. In these situations, they’re meant as nothing but words. No harm is to come from them. Sometimes when you get a unique enough name, it sticks with you for a bit of time. Majority of people seem to have at least one nickname based on who their personality and choices. By Kindergarten, kids usually have picked up their first nickname. This usually relates around them having to pee …show more content…
in their pants or picking their nose and eating it. As you age, the names will advance to being beyond expected in creativity.
They even can become of use to you. If you want to change their character, you just need to assign them the name that you speculate will get the job done. So if you think you’re friend needs to lose a few pounds, you start calling them pudgy or jelly belly, to make them hit them gym. With all the new names we gain through life, what’s the point of being named at birth? Our friends, family, and co-workers will be able to give us new names as we go through life. Week to week people could have different names. People can obviously share a common name as well. If there's countless Madisons in the world, it’s possible for millions of women to have the name slut! With names coming out on the daily, the options will soon be endless. You’ll have new names daily based on your personality, quirks, and things people may just not admire about your …show more content…
personality. Women, there are already countless names that have already been invented for you.
If you’re one of women in this world with an opinion, your name is now bitch. If you’re put off by now being called Bitch, just keep your mouth shut and maybe you’ll be rewarded with a name you can appreciate. It’s probably easier to keep your mouth shut, no man cares about your opinion anyways. For the women that, for a lack of better words, can’t keep it in their pants, your loved ones have countless options to choose from. Slut. Skank. Whore. Hoe. And many more! Men, you haven’t been forgotten. You are all incredibly lucky to live in the era of the unique name, fuckboy. If this is your name, everybody and anybody knows that you are getting it with all the girls. Well, every girl that's recently been awarded the name Hoe. If you’re a fuckboy, all the Hoes will be falling head over heels for you. In each pack of guys, there’s usually the one guy with all the ideas that no one actually cares about, such as feminism and racism. Tired of hearing him go on and on about it? Just call him or his ideas gay. He’ll instantly become
quiet. Gender isn't the only subject your loved ones new name needs to based off of. Race is also a sufficient option! Recognition of cultures and races have been a common request worldwide. So why are we not doing just that? Let's go back to when black people were niggers. Since when did calling people by the colour of their skin become an insult? It's not like calling someone a slut or a hoe that far off. Name calling even helps people change their appearance. If people say you’re packing a few extra pounds,, you’ll probably exercise and lose them. By telling a girl she’s flat chested, sooner or later she’ll be investing thousands of dollars for a breast lift. So name calling helps ugly people fixing their problems, and helps lead them to feeling confident. No matter what that path is. In addition, also the name caller will have a boost in confidence. Maybe we’ll even be able to have a higher amount of people pursuing modeling. The model industry revolves around the perfect image. What exactly is the perfect image? Hitler essentially had the right idea and it’s still done today. The models having slim body, light skin, light hair, and deep blue eyes are the idealized perfect woman. Aryan race almost followed those exact credentials. Anyone not up to these standards was savage and regarded as trash in the eyes of the Nazis, during the time of the Holocaust. We’ll still do it today when we treat attractive people superior to people with “just nice personalities.” So welcome to the 21st century where greetings are somewhere along the lines “sup nigga?” and “hey hoe.” By calling people these aforementioned names, discrimination would be eradicated since these names would not longer be viewed as "offensive" or "racist” and would just be in our daily language. Everyone always says "words can hurt," but if people become accustomed to hearing it all the time, the potential to hurt others feelings is gone.
“Can you imagine what a mess a world would be without names? (website)Names are very important to a person and their individuality. Ayn Rand’s novel “Anthem” is a book in which the people written about do not have names. The importance of having your own individual names is huge. A name can have meaning given to it, like how the name Sue means lily. Most parents when giving you your name have a meaning behind it and put much thought into what their future child should be named. Names can give you a part of your identity.
Punk, brat, jerk, dunce and many other words are used seemingly everyday as insults, as well as many words considered racist now. It has also always been disrespectful to call a grown up by their first name. In Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, she says “Every person I knew had a hellish horror of being called out of his name” (109), meaning it can hurt emotionally and/or mentally to be called something that isn't your real name. An example is when Marguerite works for Mrs. Cullinan, she begins to call Marguerite Mary because Margaret was too long of a name (A name that also wasn’t Marguerite’s
How has the term “bitch” evolved to the point of desensitization? What are the flexibilities of its meanings and the rules of usage? Why and how do women reclaim the word towards themselves and each other? The term is mainly used towards women when they show qualities of being honest, outspoken, assertiveness, strong. It is also used towards men that do not fit the hegemonic masculinity standards society has created. Lastly, it is used to describe a person or object that may be subordinate to another such as “Work is a bitch!” or “You're my bitch!” As mentioned, women also have started to use the word “bitch” towards each other to express friendship or empowerment with phrases such as “I'm that bitch/I'm the head bitch in charge”.
... of our gender and battle the sexist ideals of our world. In history, many other words, particularly racial slurs, such as chicano have been reclaimed by the people it was intended to oppress and stripped the word of its power over them. Many racial slurs have been condemned and frowned upon by our modern society, yet the words directed at women are trivialized and ignored despite their harmful intentions and effects. We must reclaim the word cunt from its negative connotations and strive to replace the double standards and shame directed at women for their gender.
... as a derogatory term. Women wear shirts that say You messed with the wrong bitch, they drink Bitch wine, and they eat Skinny Bitch nutritional bars. Novelty items with the phrase You say bitch like it’s a bad thing are sold and the word bitch is used often in every day conversation. The word bitch has become a symbol of female independence, and by embracing the word, feminists were able to tell society that they don’t care what people say. Even though the word continues to be used in a derogatory way, that does not mean the work of feminists have failed. They were able to empower women in their journeys to reclaim the word bitch. Even though they may not have changed the minds of everyone in society, they have helped women understand their true potential, and worth. As long as women see themselves in a good way, the insult behind the word bitch won’t mean a thing.
Puberty hit me early, but not in the way that it does for everyone. I was fat and sweaty (hence the nickname Piggy), making me an easy target for John Sorenson and his followers. It would have been easy for me to punch one of them, but I usually never resorted violence. So, instead of standing up for myself, I endured it for five long months. Our counselors told us embracing the names would make the bullies stop, but it didn’t. Jason didn’t employ this same method with Maggot, and I can see why; accepting a nickname is self defeating. It was May of sixth grade when I snapped. We had our quotidian after-school kickball game, but today was different because it was sixth grade versus seventh grade. We had called it the last inning, saying that the next run would win when I came up to kick. Of course I was heckled with Piggy and the oinking and squealing, but if anything, that just encouraged me to kick the shit out of the ball. On the second pitch, I smacked the ball into the outfield and rounded second base. With no outs, I elected to stay at third and was accepting a high five from one of my teammates when the rubber kickball slapped me in the back. I turned to see where the bullet came from and saw John five yards away oinking and yelling, “You’re out! Go back to the dugout… or should I say pigpen?” That was it for me. I cocked my elbow back and let my arm guide my knuckles to his left brow, costing him seven stitches. I did
Sexism is the belief or mindset that the male sex is superior to the female sex (Byron). Sexism manifests in many ways, subtle or otherwise. Some of the more common ways sexism is displayed is by men disrespecting, disregarding, degrading, and viewing women as sexual objects for their pleasure. As Captain John L. Bryon, retired Navy captain said, “Sexual harassment, fraternization, and other miscreant acts are symptoms of the problem, but they don’t define it: the disease is much deeper than this.” The women of today live in a world where the word “feminist” is an insult. Feminism, by definition, is the belief in the full economic, political, and social equality of males and females (Mankiller). Contrary to popular belief, feminism is not the strive for a female-dominated society, but a society where men and woman are truly equal in every aspect. Feminism is, in fact, the most inclusive social movement. Feminists fight for equality for not only women, but also other minorities, be it class, race, gender, identity, or sexuality (Mankiller). Yet, in the eyes of so...
People believe that when the bullying stops so do the consequences. On the contrary, the consequences will last a lifetime. The origin of the word bully comes from the word “boele”, a term of endearment. It 's interesting to see how over the centuries the word acquired a totally different meaning. Bullying is a fact of modern society, it happens everyday in offices and at schools, but do we really know what bullying is? Is it a kid getting his lunch money stolen, or a boss verbally abusing a staff member? Yes it means both of the above and so much more. Bullying is the act of using one 's influence or strength to harm or intimidate another human being in order to make the perpetrator feel more powerful. Bullying takes many forms: physical,
Over my own sixteen years, I have found myself with numerous of nicknames. Some are more obvious, because they have the tendency with just going with my name, such as Care-Bear, Care or Carol. Others have complex backstories that I would need a whole other essay to talk about. I can confidentially say that no one outside my sibling’s and our old neighbor’s know that I am nor why I have been referred to as “Spider Monkey” in our tight knit group since I was seven years old. Yet, in the recent years, a new one has arose, strangely to say the least. Upon the start of my high school
The opening of a Women’s Studies class began with the “F word” written boldly across the board. Discussion began without an explanation: the reasons why the word is used, how it’s used, the idea that it can be intimidating, and how it can be perceived to those unaware of the context it was being tossed around, was discussed. After ideas were discussed the word Feminism replaced where “the F word” previously staid. (Ray)
Bullying is an inevitable part of life for all people; however, what is the best possible way to handle with bullying so that both the bully and the victim can learn from the encounter and become decent civilian than being scum of any society? We must look at every single detail that bullies act, the way it influences the victim, the bully, and the bystander, and how much bullying normally transpires in public and private institutions. Bullying is an everyday occurance and it has plagued institutions globally. It’s an important issue in today’s world and is worthy of discussion.
The feminist movement needs to free itself from all the misandrists and the “white” based feminists. Feminism is a dynamic movement, and in order for it to succeed, men need to recognized as victims of gender bias and must be allowed into the movement. In reference to the white feminism that exists, these people need to gain as much perspective as men who do not think there is a need for any form of feminism. Men have decided to disregard a woman 's worth all throughout history and humans tend to stick with what they know. If women were historically and now socially recognized, sexism would be eradicated. Women also need to stop attacking other women. “Slut shaming” is probably the dumbest thing practiced frequently by men, but more excessively by women. This shaming stems from the fact that since women are not recognized as full human beings, they are not recognized as sexual beings. Although something like a girl dancing provocatively may be seen as an example of self-objectification, the girl’s motives need to be taken into consideration. Since women have not been recognized sexually, dancing in such a way is a form of sexual liberation and at the end of the day, a person can do as they please with their body and this needs to be
Bullying has been around for decades and yet it is still a reoccurring problem, and it is only getting worse. The National Center for Educational Statistics, in 2009, said nearly 1 in 3 students between the ages of 12 and 18 reported being bullied in school. Eight years earlier, only 14 percent of that population said they had experienced bullying(Ollove,2014). There are two types of bullying the direct form and indirect form, in the direct form the victim receives physical harm example kicking pushing shoving. In the indirect form the victim receives emotional or mental harm by name-calling, rejection, gossip, threats, or insults(Green,2007). It doesn’t matter which way the victim was bullied it still causes
Over the years Feminism has become a bigger and bigger issue, especially among teenage girls. I have seen numerous times on social media, girls ranting about how boys and men are the absolute scum of the earth and they were only brought into this world to suppress women and make their lives miserable. These girls think that they are being feminists and that is what they are labeling themselves as. Thinking this way about men has never been what feminism is about, what these girls are doing and saying is called misandry or the hatred of men. I am not sure how being a feminist turned into hating everything about men, but that is not at all what feminism was intended to do.
From as young as grade school, kids are worried about being socially accepted. The trend these days is to be the bully or be bullied. This is most common in schools. According to Jay Foster, author of The Social Nature of Bullying, “Both genders may be bullies, but their techniques vary. Girls tend to be more verbally abusive, while boys more often use physical intimidation.” Classmates will often bully one another often because of their height, weight, disability, sexual orientation, or even clothing. If one person sees another person pick on someone, that person may think it is funny and will make themselves look “cool.” They think that by them bullying someone else, they won’t get bullied themselves and that bullying will make them feel much better
