Throughout my educational life, my number one motivation is my family, as being a first-generation college student in my family, I do not want to let them down. During my senior year, my parents had separated. That was one of the hardest things to go through, especially your senior year because that’s supposed to be one of the greatest times in your life, but in my case it was not. It was a very hard time for both of my parents. I wanted to do something to make them both happy, and that was furthering my education and persuing a college degree. Now being in college, it is hard for me to pay for school. I have no help from my parents because since they separated they struggle to get back on their feet. So I am forced to take out subsidized and unsubsidized loans, which I wanted to avoid, but sometime you have to bite the bullet to go after what you really want. In life, seeing my parents struggle makes me just want to break down and cry, quit school and get a job in my local town and help them out. My family is my motivation, so when they are going through hardships so am I. But, there is a little birdie in my head saying “Is that what your family would want?”, and of course they answer is no. Even though I’m in need of financial support, I continue to still further my education but I know it will pay off in the …show more content…
I participated in the Jekyll Island Beach Sweep, I also did Adopt-A-Highway, which is an event where we pick up trash, and we do that to help the community stay clean. I also participate in fundraisers we did for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A scholarship will be such a blessing right now in my life to help me pay for my college expenses. My mom and dad separated in turn we lost our house because my dad couldn’t afford the bills anymore, he had to file bankruptcy, all this before I had to leave for
Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
Also, I am not going to go into a trade, so a college education is the only way I'll make it in this financially demanding world. My family supports me with my school accomplishments mentally sometimes, but not financially ever. I have to pay for college myself, so it is really important for me to get in, do well, and then graduate. I believe that college would be important to me either way, but it's different when it is your own money on the table. Also, it is easier to take advantage of your own family's money versus a scholarship foundation's money. I wouldn't want their first impression of me to be that I took money away from someone who would've made better use of their money. Education is the key to every closed door, and the last thing I will do is let myself
Based on the different reasons or goals that give rise to an action, motivation can be classified into intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation (Ryan and Deci, 2000). The first type, intrinsic motivation, refers to doing something because “it is inherently interesting or enjoyable” (Ryan and Deci, 2000, p. 55). This type of motivation refers to the reasons for L2 learning that are derived from one’s inherent pleasure and interest in the activity and the activity is performed because of the spontaneous satisfaction associated with it (Noels, 2001). Researchers (e.g. (Vallerand, 1997; Vallerand et al., 1992; Noels et al., 2000) have categorized intrinsic motivation into three subtypes: (1) intrinsic motivation-Knowledge, which is the motivation
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
Academics has always been an important part of my life. Ever since I was a young child my parents have pushed me to lead good life academically. All throughout grade school I have had decent grades (generally speaking in the nineties or above), and I owe this, at least partly, to my parent's determination to give me the best possible education. I also owe this to my will to be at the top of my academic game. This was naturally quite easy for me up until my senior year of high school. When my senior year came around, there was a lot of pressure on me to make a lot of life changing decisions. When all of this was put on me, the last thing that i wanted to do was change the way i was living. I loved the way my life was, and going away from home to college wasn't something that i felt i was ready to do. Because of this i decided to enroll in Genesee Community College, which is about five minutes away from my house.

My mother's’ biggest fear is that I won’t attend college just like she hadn’t. I look back at my mom's life and think what she could have done to graduate and to further her education. Did she think about her life in the future? No, she only thought about her getting out of Worland High school for good. She always tells me, “Monica don’t give up on school. Look at my life, you don’t want to struggle with money and you most definitely don't want to be a single mother like me, without an education. If I could, I would go back and graduate to make our life better, but it is, was it is. If you don’t want the life I have graduate and further your education. Believe in yourself.” I have looked into so many grants i could in order to attend college and it turns out I could get grants for basically anything. I started looking into grants at the age of fourteen, just in case I didn’t have the money to put me through college, and turns out that was the smartest idea I have ever had. I’m not rich, so I have to think about all possibilities, just so I can to accomplish my dream. If I could give anyone any advice, it would have to be to my siblings and to all the people that are thinking about attending
Weather I have to go to school for many more years. I very much have faith in myself. I was always taught to believe in myself. To believe that I actually have a meaning in this chaotic world. And as long as I believe that I have a purpose, I will always look forward and never back. I will keep my head up, and keep my eyes on the prize. Along the way, I may face some challenges, just like everyone else does. Things such as being stressed out on a daily basis. Which makes everything so much harder. But I have a very supportive family and tons of positive vibes around me. The one person that I can honestly say that keeps me going, is my grandfather. He has been so supportive of me ever since I was a mini me. And he’s still going till this day. He’s had my back since day one. You have no idea how proud I am to call him mine. He is the main reason why I will stay true to my belief. I would be upset in myself if i just gave up my dreams. But because of the potential that he sees in me. His inspiring words have struck me deep down and they got stuck. He says all the right things at the right times, and he doesn’t sugar coat things because in the real world, there’s no such thing as sugar coating. But my desideratum will help me accomplish so much in
Many business managers today are not aware to the response that motivation can have on their business. The size of the business is not a factor when considering motivation: whether you’re trying to get full potential from one hundred or an individual everyone is in need of some form of motivation. Getting back where everything started, my bed. While laying down in my bed I go through my backpack and check for homework. When I’m done with my homework, I turn everything off and stare at the ceiling. In a dark and peaceful atmosphere, thinking why I can’t quit anything I had done so far. My grades are untouchable, that’s not an option. Soccer, there’s no way I played 3 years for school and quitting my last year. Lobo Prep is my only opportunity to get a higher score. A higher score, that means more universities to get accepted into and more opportunities of getting scholarships. Furthermore, the only reason I don’t want to quit my job to provide more time to my education, is because I want to prove my parents that is possible to do well in both school and work at the same time. This type of life has totally changed my life in every perspective. Now I’m a more mentally strong, mature, responsible, independent person. Sadly now, I don’t have time to spend with my family, however, I still feel the responsibility to become the first from my entire family to graduate from a university. I want to become a role model for my brother and sister, that’s one of my biggest motivations. The way that my parents treat me because of the fact that I’m able to do this routine every day. Makes me feel some type of inexplicable way that makes me keep fighting in this everyday
