Beowulf always wants to fight fairly and be brave and strong. He wanted to be remembered through the years. I can relate to Beowulf’s heroic journey because in the future, I want to be successful and be remembered through the years as I continue to get older. I want to be an example, that going big and being successful is real, that it can be your reality, and that anyone can do it if they put their mind to it. But the whole concept of my desideratum, is to work my hardest to achieve all that I can in life, because life's too short to sit around and do nothing. Make memories and achieve greatness. You can be sitting around one day and say to yourself, “ I think I want to travel the world.” Do great things and be happy with yourself. Don't let …show more content…
anyone tell you otherwise. It’s your life. Live it as you see fit. “Don’t settle down and sit in one place. Move around, be nomadic, make each day a new horizon” (McCandless 58). I want my life to be the best it can be, and I don’t want to cheat my way through anything, because along the way, you make new memories and new amazing friends. Don’t hold back anything and have no regrets. The meaning behind my desideratum is to be successful no matter how hard the situation gets. Always do your best. Because when you do your best, in no time, you’ll be able to conquer the world. “It’s not always necessary to be strong, but to feel strong” (Krakauer). This belief is essential to me because in my future, when I get older, I want to be able to make something of myself. I want to be able to look back at myself and say that I made it. That even though the journey was tough. I FREAKING MADE IT!! But hmm, if you think about it, something had to lead me to think this way. I grew into this belief when I started high school. That’s when everything starts to hit you. Because now you’re realizing that you have only a few more years until adulthood. Honestly, it’s scary to think about. To think that in a couple years you’re going to be on your own. Paying bills, getting a full time job, or even going to college. But I mean, it happens to everyone eventually. I walk around and see all these people I want to be like, and a lot that I never want to end up like. I never want to be that woman that has to depend on someone or everyone for anything. I will be an independent woman. I will strive for greatness and no one will get in my way. I will set my eyes on my success and I won’t stop for anyone. I won’t stop until I reach the top. How I came to this belief is by watching others dreams come true right before their eyes. I’ve watched people go from rock bottom, to the top of the chain. I know some people are fortunate enough to have a supportive family and people there behind them every step of the way and some people who aren’t so lucky. I happen to be one of those fortunate people to have a very supportive family and friends. “Never trust a fox, looks like a dog, acts like a cat” (Hunter). You should always be careful who you trust, because some people aren’t who they say they are. But there are also those people who want to see me fail because they are jealous. Because they want to be where I am. But I can’t let those people get to me. I have to keep my eyes on the prize. And like I mentioned before, “I will stop for NO ONE.” What crosses my mind everyday, is that my older brother could not attend college at my age, because of stupid decisions he made in his past. So I told him that since he couldn’t enjoy college for himself, I’ll enjoy it twice as much. For me, and for him. We will be successful together. A way that I will maintain and pursue my desideratum, is by going through college after I graduate high school. Getting a job in the field that I want to be successful in and keeping my head high through the tough times. Because in the end, all this time and effort will be worth it. And the best part is, I can laugh at everyone who thought I wasn’t going to make it. For my future, I do indeed intend to pursue and maintain my career.
Weather I have to go to school for many more years. I very much have faith in myself. I was always taught to believe in myself. To believe that I actually have a meaning in this chaotic world. And as long as I believe that I have a purpose, I will always look forward and never back. I will keep my head up, and keep my eyes on the prize. Along the way, I may face some challenges, just like everyone else does. Things such as being stressed out on a daily basis. Which makes everything so much harder. But I have a very supportive family and tons of positive vibes around me. The one person that I can honestly say that keeps me going, is my grandfather. He has been so supportive of me ever since I was a mini me. And he’s still going till this day. He’s had my back since day one. You have no idea how proud I am to call him mine. He is the main reason why I will stay true to my belief. I would be upset in myself if i just gave up my dreams. But because of the potential that he sees in me. His inspiring words have struck me deep down and they got stuck. He says all the right things at the right times, and he doesn’t sugar coat things because in the real world, there’s no such thing as sugar coating. But my desideratum will help me accomplish so much in
life. What I plan to accomplish through my guiding belief is that my future is full of bright amazing things. And that my career will serve me well. I wish to be successful and never settle for less. I heard a saying from a friend awhile back that said, “10 years from now, I wanna make sure I choose my life, not settle for it.” That saying really has so much meaning between each letter. Each syllable. As I said many times before, I will strive for greatness and I won’t stop until it is in the palms of my hands. The steps that I would take so I’d be able to make it to the top would be making it through years of college that’ll be totally worth it. Then getting a job to earn money. But after all the painstaking hours in college and working, I can finally start working on my lifelong career. The most important thing is I want my future to be successful and I want to make my family proud. “Happiness is only real when shared” (McCandless). It’s crazy how things in life can influence you. From school, to family and friends. My family influenced me to become the best person I can be. School influenced me to not give up on my dreams and to know that my future is mine to conquer, even if I have to take it baby steps at a time. I want to be someone who can make a difference in this world for young women like myself. I want people to look up at me because if I can do it, so can you. But I also want to be that person that people look at and say, “I remember her from high school, I can’t believe that she made it so far in life.” The one thing that everyone wants in life, is to succeed. Some may have to work harder than others. But the opportunity is there for everyone. You just have to open your eyes wide enough and keep your head as high as the clouds. Don’t give up on yourself because of one bad day, or because someone decided they wanted to be snobby towards you. Because just like that, it can be taken away from you. You have to stay focused on what you really want. If you don’t work hard for it. Then it’s not your dream to be living. Never give up on what you want, and never let anyone take that away from you.
In Beowulf, the protagonist Beowulf is shown as a hero with extrodinary strength. This is not what makes him a hero. By definition, a hero is a man of exceptional quality. However this term does not do Beowulf justice. His self-imposed purpose in life is to help others, and eventually sacrifices his own life in doing so. Beowulf’s battle with the dragon serves as a critique of the notion that Beowulf is a hero. The Dragon section displays many of Beowulf’s heoric characteristics. Beowulf establishes himself as a hero by fighting the dragon, exemplifing strength and courage when fighting the dragon, and sacrificing himself so that others can live.
When deciphering between what it considered to be heroic or monstrous, it is important to keep in mind the angle in which a story is being told. While reading Beowulf, the protagonist of the epic poem could be considered either heroic or monstrous through the eyes of different characters. Beowulf can be classified as a hero according to The Hero’s Journey through the eyes of Hrothgar and Hygelac. On the other hand, Beowulf could be viewed as being monstrous according to Monster Theory through the eyes of Unferth and Grendel’s Mother.
The Epic poem of Beowulf is a story of heroism, loyalty, ego, and fate. To be a great leader of men; a great king of the people, you must be respected and trusted. Loyalty is given to those who earn the respect and trust of their people. Beowulf was blessed with great physical strength, the pride and fearlessness of a warrior, and an equally strong command of the spoken word, which he used skillfully to his advantage. He gained the respect and trust of nearly everyone he came in contact with, largely because he possessed the characteristics of a true hero, but in the end it was his ego that sealed his fate. Although it could be said that Beowulf’s character was flawed by an enormous ego, fueled by thoughts of immortality, it is this very trait that made him an ideal hero and king.
In the poem Beowulf, the protagonist is portrayed as a heroic figure who strives to spread his name and glory out across the land in order to be remembered. Although his acts may not entirely be for the right reasons, Beowulf does express his heroic qualities of bravery, arrogance, and brute force.
Although Beowulf gets killed, he did it being brave, and he did it working hard to destroy the monster who he accomplished to slay. These characteristics are important to have in order to accomplish things in life. I have only accomplished some of the many things that I wish to in life but I still have along way to go and someday I will be able to say that I made it and that I worked hard to get to where I’ll be. Many people would not picture that they have such a common life to that of character from an epic poem but I know Beowulf and I relate a lot. We both face demons and we fight them to rid them of the pain and suffering they bring, bringing peace and pride into our own
In Beowulf the poem, Beowulf is considered to be an epic hero, he is different than just a regular hero. At the time, except for the King, warriors were the most honored and respected. Throughout this poem the author expresses that Beowulf is a true epic hero. What makes an epic hero? An epic hero must undertake a quest to achieve something tremendous value to his nation, must be super-human, and protects his people and their ideals. Beowulf is one of the greatest warriors of all time to protect his nation and people, he is a perfect candidate of an epic hero.
Beowulf was born to lead and not follow. Beowulf’s character from youth to old seeks out battles with all his devotion to win as a great leader would do. “I risked my life often when I was young. Now I am old, but as king of the people I shall pursue this fight for the glory of winning, if the evil one will only abandon his earth-fort and face me in the open” (Beowulf 2011-15). Beowulf claimed his right as a king to his people and battled against the dragon to protect his people.
...fend off death. The spirit of warriors grew its roots deep into his soul. His values of honor and valor would not let him die a peaceful death; no he would die in battle. Beowulf knew he would die in the midst of battle the day he chose to be a warrior. To die in battle was the greatest honor that he could
Beowulf is one of the most iconic and influential heroic journeys of all time. Beowulf, son of Ecgtheow, is a Geat and like no other warrior ever seen before. He is the strongest man alive. He has the strength of thirty men in his arm alone. When Beowulf was only a boy, he had battles with his friends and swam for miles with his sword in his hand and armor on the rest of his body. When he battles Grendel's mother, it is said that Beowulf is underwater for nearly half a day. Aside from being a great warrior, he is also very smart and modest about his strength. When Beowulf arrives in Heorot, he is confronted with opposition. The king, Hrothgar allows Beowulf to fight because has known Beowulf's father, Ecgtheow, and Hrothgar saved him from

What is a hero? The Webster dictionary describes it as, “a person...who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.” But how can mere words on a page create icons that change the course of a culture? Lost in the midst of time, two stories emerge from the medieval era, telling of two great kings who clash in various ways.
Beowulf displayed great courage and honor throughout his journeys and battles; he was an epic hero. An epic hero is a person who is viewed as larger than life and possesses values of a certain society. From the time of Beowulf’s battle with Grendel to his brawl against the dragon, he has showed everyone what being an honorable hero looks like. His heroism is revealed through both youth as a young warrior and wisdom as a reliable king. He never backed down and didn’t give up when situations were tough. Beowulf had obligations to fulfill and went about every aspect of his life with courage and strength. He cared for his people and was willing to take on anyone that threatened them or his kingdom. He sincerely was the hero of his time.
What are the qualities of an epic hero? An Epic hero is a hero on a
What does it mean to be a hero? Like anything else in this world, the definition of the word hero can be argued. Some may say that a hero can be passive, that is if he or she refrains from doing a certain action it makes them heroic. Others would argue that to be truly heroic the character must never turn tail and always face the obstacle head on even though he or she may die in the process. So is Beowulf a hero? Yes, Beowulf is a great epic hero, but his greatness comes only from his sword and not from his mind.
Beowulf was written in the eighth century by an unknown author. The story is centered on Beowulf, the main character, who goes to Denmark to offer his assistance in fighting off, Grendel, the monster who has been haunting them. Beowulf most definitely proves to be a hero. His heroism is exemplified first when he kills Grendel, then when he kills Grendel’s mother, and finally when he kills the dragon, called Worm. This makes him a hero because he risks his own life to save the people of Denmark.
