What purpose do hopes and plans serve? Why do people define them? These are questions I have asked myself many times, and the writing of this essay has helped me answer them. Hopes and plans allow me to realize and put into words the direction I wish my life to go. This makes putting goals in place and taking steps to reach these goals much simpler. Many of these goals I share with most people, such as my goal to graduate high with a 3.75 GPA or higher. Other goals are somewhat less common, such as my goals to graduate debt-free or to pursue a Computer Science career.
In the realm of education, my current goal is to complete high school with a GPA over 3.75. Afterwards, I hope to attend a college with a good Computer Science related program. Another option would be to find a good online correspondence college and to earn my degree there. However, there is a third possibility, which is that of foregoing college entirely in favor of earning multiple Microsoft certifications and thereby proving proficiency in multiple skills useful for work in the field.

################################# Part 3 ######################################## Nature doesn’t intend for things to be perfect, if it was the contrary we wouldn’t be considered humans. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Birth-Mark portrays the story of a scientist, Aylmer, so self-absorbed, and supercilious in his own power of science that he would go so far as to remove the intentional “imperfect” birthmark that Nature has bestowed upon his wife’s face. “Cannot you remove this little, little mark… Is this beyond your power… Noblest, dearest, tenderest wife… doubt not my power” (216). Hawthorne uses the birthmark as a symbol to represent the imperfection that is within the human species, the mark also draws out the imperfection of those who have encountered it by displaying their tendencies to overlook the flawless beauty of Georgiana and focus solely on her birthmark, “Some fastidious persons… affirmed that the bloody hand… quite destroyed Georgiana’s beauty… Aylmer discovered that this was the case with himself” (214). Nature’s symbol is a paradigm of omnipotence. To simply put, Nature created the grand design of human life, and governs over our society but allows us as people to do as we please with our lives, so long as we do not alter with Nature’s creation, “…Our great creative Mother… She permits us, indeed to mar, but seldom to mend, and like a jealous patentee, on no account to make” (217). Despite Nature’s intention, being the pompous scientist that he is, Aylmer believes himself to be something more than a microcosm of Nature’s creation. In other words, because of his unparalleled ability in the subject science, like other...
Goals are logical and calculated, aspirations are emotional and inspirational, and needs cannot be avoided and are necessary to survival. Goals are typically about meeting, narrowing, and focusing on an outcome. Therefore, they can limit and create a narrow-minded approach of the world. On the other hand, aspirations are expansive and create new possibilities. There are more paths and options available, with a better sense of opportunities as they arise. Needs are finite things, motivating forces that compel action for satisfaction.
Life goals are something everyone wants to accomplish, but how will they do it? Well, I have a few life goals and a plan to make it happen. My life goals are so important to me I have already started to accomplish them. These goals will take time to accomplish, but I’m on the right track.
Hope is a term used to describe a person’s desires. Hope is what drives a person to reach his or her goals. Whether or not a person has hope can determine their success when trying new opportunities. Hope is something that any person is able to have, no matter their financial situation, race, gender, or age. Every person is influenced by hope when they make choices in their life.
It is the ambition of getting what you desire, no matter the odds you are facing. To have hope, means you have perseverance. The idea of hope belongs to many people, it belonged to the Pilgrims as they sailed to the new world. They had hope in a new beginning, and a new place where they could worship freely without persecution. Hope belonged to the Founding Fathers, they had a hope for a new, successful country where the citizens had their own liberties. As Abraham Lincoln said, “My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.” Hope also belongs to us now, the new generation. We have the hope of a country without oppression and a world filled with peace. A world that celebrates everyone's differences. We have hope for a country based around God’s
Most people have some sort of goal that they would like to accomplish in life or a dream they want to come true. People who have these goals they want to achieve should have a plan to reach them. One of my major goals in life is to become an accountant. In order for me to achieve this dream of mine, I plan to go to college and learn all I can about being an accountant so I can become one and do my job as best I can.(Heyne). A sixteen year old peer, Kara Piper, who I interviewed has a different goal in life. Her American Dream is to have her own company and make enough money to travel the world. Her way of achieving this goal is by her family experiences in business and by the support of her family and friends. Therefore we all have hopes and dreams in life, but we all have our own idea of how to achieve them.
Throughout my life I have set many goals for myself. Each goal is a small step towards achieving my idea of the American Dream. Every person in America has their own idea or version of what the American Dream is. To me, an American Dream is something that we can all achieve, but it will take a lot of hard work in order for us to be successful. Certain people will dream of happiness and others might dream of wealth, but I believe the dream that I want to achieve is something more meaningful than those things. Three post-high-school goals that embody my idea of the American Dream is attending College of the Ozarks to further my education, own a well managed farm, and in the future, I would like to have a nice house and a family. Each of these
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
I set goals for myself all the time in many different aspects of my life. This experience was different because I don’t always take the time to write out goals. Taking this extra step allows you to plan for success despite barriers that may arise due to your environment or social systems. As a social worker I will be better equipped to empower others in goal setting and planning after going through the planning myself. Being aware of how social systems and the environment affect goal setting will allow me the ability to view client’s situations through an ecological lens, while empowering them in the goal setting and planning
Life has no meaning without goals. In order to succeed setting goal is very important. Without setting goals there would be nothing to look forward to, or even have anything to achieve. Goals are a vital aspect of our lives. It gives a sense of self-confidence. I believe without goals life would just be a plain and no excitement at all. Long-term and short-term goals are intertwined and work similarly to build a house from ground up. I vision myself become a radiologist within the next three to five years. This is my present long-term goal. To achieve my long term goal I have two short term goals, first to get good grades in prerequisites courses and second to complete my grad school program with "A" grade minimum, because graduating with good grades is the stepping stone for my long-term goal.
We are told never to cross a bridge until we come to it, but this world is owned by men who have 'crossed bridges' in their imagination far ahead of the crowd. I was watching the Doctor Phil Show the other day, and he was talking about the five reasons for why successful people are as successful as they are. Number one on the list was a plan. A goal. A destination. An ambition. Without an ambition we have no purpose in our lives. In contrast, a goal can help us get organized and take steps towards achieving what we want in our day-to-day lives. My friend Ryan always used to tell me, and still does; “My life's ambition is to be happy with my place in, and contribution to Society.” That might be a nice thought, but is there really a workable goal there? No! “The ambitious man is essentially a visualizer and an actualizer... He can visualize something, and when he visualizes it he sees exactly how to make it happen.” - Robert L. Schwartz A person who aims at nothing is sure to hit it. We were given a brain for a reason, and this is a perfect excuse to use it.
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
All your life growing up, you don 't have to make any big decisions. This all changes senior year when you have to make a decision about what you are going to do with your life after high school. What you choose to do can dictate how you spend your time and money. If you do not make a choice you will not be able to move on towards being a self supporting adult. Decisions are hard to make but essential to keep moving forward.
I have a dream… you have a dream… our nation has a dream… our world has a dream. We all have a dream.
Someone once asked me what I believed in, what I wanted to get out of life and where I saw myself a couple of years from now…I was speechless, just standing there with a blank look upon my face, guess I looked like a deer in the headlights. At first I was outraged for not knowing what to say, and then I became concerned. Looking back I can say that I was afraid, afraid of wanting anything. I figured wanting would lead to trying and trying would lead to failure, and failure is not an option. A friend once told me I was much better than I thought I was, and he would help me do more in a positive sense, he was the one that helped me realize failure was something I shouldn’t be afraid of.
