In my life time I have accomplished many extraordinary tasks that I’ve put my mind too. I discovered that my signature themes have greatly affected the methods that I use to complete these tasks. People use their strengths in everyday life as well as in crucial, life changing situations. Important self-building achievement is one factor that makes people who they are. Another is the way that people apply there strengths to different situations.
The greatest achievement in my life would have to be my success in the sport of football. I started playing the game at the age of eight. It stuck with me throughout my life until now. During a football game there are numerous amounts of dynamic situations to be involved with. There are so many crucial actions that take place in the matter of seconds. In a certain instance in my life , the game had a strong impact on my life. It took place my senior year against our rivals, the best team in the district. That Monday we began preparing for the coming Friday. It was a typical week until I woke up Wednesday morning. I was routinely late for school running around the house. On my way out the door the phone brought me to an abrupt stop. Turning around, I started to sprint to the phone. A few steps into it, I crushed my little toe on the leg of my couch. Face down on the carpet, I proceeded to scream in pain. Answering the phone quickly got check off my things to do list. As soon as I could regain my sanity I hopped over to the couch and forgot about school. My toe suddenly turned black and swollen. It was the worst coincidence that could’ve happened to me. I went to the hospital later that day, where I heard that my foot was broken and I couldn’t play.
I didn’t pay attention to the doctor at all. The day before the game came and I had to find a way to play. I decided to wrap my foot in a block of tape and go for it. Game day was finally here. It was the biggest game of the season.
After reading Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath, I learned that there are thirty four different themes that one could have as strengths. Each strength has its own positive that allow people to better work with the people who have this style of strengths. Another key topic that I learned is that everyone has their own types of personal strengths. The main principle that was taken away from reading this book was that the old phrase of “You can be anything you want to be” is not a true statement (p. 6). We are all taught this idea at a very young age and it tends to stick with us for the rest of our lives. Forced by the past, most people are required to try to fix their weaknesses, but not improve on our strengths. We cannot truly be anything we want to be because we are not built this way. We are programmed to tend to stick with things that we are good at and when thrown at a task similar to the one we are good at we do not just excel at the other task. By sticking to increasing our strengths that we already have instead of fixing our weaknesses, we will be able to become a better human being because we are better the things in which we are good at.
From a young age, my parents have always focused on teaching me to be the best person I can possibly be. Life skills, discipline, and good morals highlighted the long list of qualities my parents believed I should practice and aim to perfect. However, the most important thing to realize and accept, according to my parents, is that life will not always go how you want it to go, and that one can never dwell on the past. Being a football player, I had always heard that high school football was politically based, that the coach's favorite players would be given more opportunities than others. Upon hearing such assertions, I had trouble believing this to be true, that the best player deserves to start regardless of the popularity of the athlete. Despite my initial perspective, when I finally worked my way to a spot on the varsity football team, I realized that high school football was not what I thought it was,
In was first brought to the attention in the United States and Europe in October of 2006 by Beekeepers who began to notice a strange phenomenon. This group of people noticed that normal healthy bees were abandoning their hives and not returning. The Beekeepers were reporting losses between 30 and 90 percent of the hives that they maintained. It was coming into winter and hives do experience losses but it was never seen in such a large number before. The main observation of what would become known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) was that a very small amount to zero adult honey bees were found in the hive, there was a queen, immature bees and honey present, but without mature adults present not enough workers were available to maintain the very existence of the hive itself so the hive dies off the other event that is being witnessed is a mass die off bees as a whole within the colony itself. ("Honey Bees and Colony Collapse Disorder").
In 2014 I was determined to make the high school soccer team. Every day at 8 am at the beginning of a dreadfully hot August morning, I would get to the turf fields for 4 hours and participate in “hell week”. After a long week, I made the JV team. I was never put into the game and felt like my hard work was put to no use. My sophomore year rolled around and I tried extra hard to impress the coaches. Anything and everything was a competition to make it to the top. By the end of the week, we all gathered around the paper that had names of the players who made it. I didn’t make the team. After tears and telling myself to move on, I went to the field hockey tryouts. I knew nothing about the sport and was terrified that soccer wasn’t my go-to
I believe that these themes align with strengths I have. Some of them I find more fitting but they all match me and my natural abilities. Knowing my strengths helps me learn what I need to focus on in order to excel in the future.
With seconds to spare I arrived at batting practice and began to prepare for my game. I hear coach call out my name and as I he acknowledged that I was there he told me I was pitching. My brain shifted and went into a whole new mode, I was more focused and more determined than I have ever been. This was the biggest baseball game of my career and I 'm starting on the mound. Honestly it couldn 't have turned out any better, the fate of the pin and my team lied in my hands and I loved the pressure. The pressure made me thrive and before I knew it our team was marching onto the field for the national anthem. During the singing of the national anthem I peeked into the crowd and first row down the first base side was the little boy I met on the cart and his dad sitting right next to him. This game was for that little boy, I needed to impress him. I pitched six strong innings and my team ended up winning the game. It was the most exciting game of my career and the best part was being greeted with the best pin in the tournament after such a spectacular win. The little boy ran out into the middle of the field where we shook our opponents hands and in front of everyone in the stadium handed me the only thing I cared about besides winning. I was in the best mood for the rest of the day and I rewarded myself with a nice long sleep. I could only image what the next day had to
Last year in January, my school cheer team and I accomplished a huge goal. We won nationals. The Owasso team was expected to win this competition, but it was still very difficult to achieve. The competition is held in Dallas, Texas, where thousands of cheerleaders compete to accomplish a once in a lifetime goal. My team only went up against one other team, but still won. The other team was not much better than the Owasso cheerleaders, which does not mean that it was easy. Winning with my dream team gave me an indescribable feeling inside. It was absolutely unreal. We came back home with our winning title ready to begin a new season. Knowing that every other team from all around the state was gunning for us, we were hungry for another win. Another
Basketball is a big part of my life, one year ago in tournament final game two of our best players were hurt and the team was relying on me. With the time winding down on the clock we were down 8 points. Somehow I got our deficit down to two points with 30 seconds left, after an intense defensive stop 10 seconds remained on the clock; our coach called a timeout. A play was drawn up for me to take the shot. Mitchell inbounded the ball to me as I came off of a screen, I had an some-what wide open shot, I took the shot, you could hear the crowd go silent as the ball left my hand and headed towards the basketball. It felt like everything was going slow motion, the ball was getting closer and closer to the hoop and I…….missed it. The buzzer sounded
My top five strengths are both great and damaging to myself. My talent for achieving and competiveness guarantees that I am never satisfied and constantly needing to rise to the top. While these are great strengths to have, it qualifies that I never able to truly rest or feel the satisfaction of a work well done because I am already moving to the next hurdle. However, these strengths are great for...
For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I must use my strengths to my advantage, to be more effective academically and in the workplace, but I also need to identify and try to overcome my weaknesses, especially professionally.
But in the U.S, beekeepers have been noticing that life span has dropped by more than half over the past decade, which has baffled researchers for years. It has been one of the many questions that surrounds the mystery of honey bee deaths. Aside from making a delicious natural sweetener, honey bees, although not native to the United States, also provide a crucial service to agriculture: pollination. Colony collapse in general could be devastating to food production. From apples to almonds, many crops would suffer without honey bees. Colony Collapse Disorder (C.C.D) is the phenomenon that occurs when the majority of worker bees in a colony disappear and leave behind a queen, plenty of food, and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees and the queen. Why is this happening? There have been many theories to why C.C.D is happening. Some factors include increased losses due to the invasive varroa mite, pesticide poisoning through exposure to pesticides applied to crops, stress due to bad management practices, and inadequate nutrition. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the agency leading the investigation looking into the mysterious deaths of the honey bee. But not just government officials are helping the cause. Celebrities such as Morgan Freeman are turning their unused land to ranches that are specifically just for bees. What are some things that can help
When I was in the sixth grade I was playing football for a scout’s team that I was on. We were on the road playing a much hated Greybull football team. We were wanted to secure an unbelievable season with an undefeated record 9-0. There was only one problem, we had to fight Greybull to cap off our perfect season with a record of 10-0.
Bees are the most important pollinators of our fruits and vegetables. Seven years ago, colonies of bees started dying in masses. In the United States, an average of 30% of beehives is lost each year. There are numerous causes of the decline of the bee population. The disappearing of bees is known as the colony collapse disorder. The colony collapse disorder is an event that affects all of the Earth’s spheres.
Numerous social networking sites can be found on the Internet, but Facebook is the most popular site among college students. There are many reasons why Facebook has attracted so many users over the years. “Facebook is described as a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study, and live around them” (Chaulk 246). Many people use Facebook to connect with their friends and families. In order to register for a Facebook account, a person has to be willing to give out personal information. Facebook users are likely to create a profile which can include all the things they want to share with other people (Green 20). However, it could be dangerous if a person gives out his or her information because some people may steal it, causing problems and leaving mental scars. Facebook provides a place for people to share information and build connections with others by sending or accepting friend requests (Karl 214). For some people, Facebook connects people with others who they already know or met in real life. People use Facebook to involve in “social searching”, that is to explore the people in their offline community (Chaulk 246). “Facebook seems to be like the American Old West – a vast, wild, and somewhat...
In addition, by working through some of these weaknesses, they will make me a stronger writer (Bethel University,2014). Other areas I would like to capitalize some of my strengths on are determination and responsibility. Managing my family, my career, and my education can be challenging at times, however this type of dedication will put me in front of my peers professionally and personally (Bethel University,2014). In conclusion, I am going to incorporate my strengths into my work and develop some of my weaker skills in order to achieve my goals (Bethel
