When I came to the United States, at first, I was sad because I was leaving behind a life that I was used to, but it turned out to be one of the best steps I have taken in my journey. One of the best outcomes of coming to the country was being reunited with my mom and my grandparents. They have been living here for ten years already. That was ten long years where I would see them for two weeks per year. Those were the two weeks that I would look forward to have every year.It was hard not having my mom by my side. My mom had to leave me over there in order for me to come, it was hard, even though I had my dad with me, sometimes I just needed my momShe would call me every week, and visit whenever she could, but we all know how hard it is to take …show more content…
The first thing that impressed me was the respect and education that people have here.If you walk on the streets, everyone would say hi, even if you are someone that they have never seen in their life. I remember one of my first days in high school, I was walking down the hallway and my English teacher was walking on the opposite direction, when we were crossing each other I see that she gives me a little smile, and I asked-What? Then she busted out laughing and explained to me that its courtesy here to smile when you cross someone, that it is like a way of saying hi. This is something that I was completely unaware of and I am glad that she stopped and told me that because I would still ask why they are smiling. The school system here is something else that fascinated me a lot. For starters, there is all the technological resources being used in our education, again, something I had never seen before. I was used to pen and paper, and the professor only using and board and some chalk to impart the lessons. Then there is the fact that almost every year the books are updated with the latest information. And last, but not least, the very capable and educated
America’s public school system started off very rough, but through the dedication of many hard-working Americans, it was starting to shape into a system that allowed all children, regardless of race, gender, religion, or nation of origin, to have an education.
Since my father remained in Haiti while we made our home here in the states, by the time I was in my late teens I soon realized that I was the leader of my family. The apartment complex where we lived was increasingly becoming unsafe and it was very clear that I had to move us out of that environment into a safer one. I worked hard and saved up and when I was 23 years old I was fortunate enough to have my first major accomplishment by purchasing my own house where I moved in my mother, my 3 sisters, my younger brother, and occasionally my father. It made me feel good that I could provide a safer living environment for my entire family.
close friends, and a stable job. Life was very easy and interesting for me. But living here,
In conclusion, my recently experience was when my family and me decides to moved to the United States. It was a tremendous change moved to another country. Moving to another country is giving us an opportunity about different language, meet new people, better jobs and great education. This experience maybe was harmful and difficult for all the family, but if we moved for better life, it could be an excellent opportunity for our future. To sum up, now we enjoying living here, my parents have a good job and my brothers and me study at great school.
Education, according to Dictionnary.com is “the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university”. However, education is taught differently everywhere. The educational system of each country is created based on their own cultures, traditions, and historical background. Each county, perhaps, have their own way to teach and manage their educational systems. Unlike some countries. “The US has most diversified education system in the world, with public and private schools at all levels flourishing alongside each other” (Hampshire, 2006) Even though the U.S. display some similarities such as a diverse population of students in classes and a great emphasize on education and education and academic success, they however differ dramatically in teaching methods, student aids, teacher evaluation system, and resources. Though not so far apart on the map, the education system in Haiti and the educational system in the United states are extremely opposite when it comes to organization, technology, and finance.
...d to United States, I was grateful that I made the decision to move. When my family visited, I was able to cherish every moment with them because I knew how difficult life without them. I was grateful to have my family. Their endless support and advice, helped me to improved myself. Lived independently in United states, I grew as a better person, I learned how to planned a better time management and to be responsible on my priority.
It is safe to say that the current education system in the United States does not help create a good workforce, it does not help students meet their goals and it does not do a good job in creating good citizens. The current education system is not able to do this because not everyone is about to get a higher education, it is not practical, and a college education and grades are not good factors/indicators in determining a person’s success. Yes, the education system is better here than in other areas, but there are a few things that need to be worked on.
The pursuit of education is important in one’s life; especially for the youth. With that being said, in terms of the public school system, Texas reigns as champion. The teachers in Texas public school systems actually teach. On the contrary, known from personal experience, teachers in Maryland public school systems tend to befriend the students rather than teaching. The majority of teachers seemed to be focused on being the teacher the students considered “cool”. While living in Texas, until I was eight years old, I learned more than “the hottest” new dance. I learned the basics in writing, math, history, and science that high school should have developed further, nurtured, or enhanced. My siblings and I have had to attend schools other than our local schools in order to receive a “decent” education; decent being in a more civilized environment that doesn’t resemble a zoo.
Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, the American educational system has undergone much transition in response to our changing society. Though there have been many problems raised throughout the years in regard to what our school systems should be teaching our children, there have also been many developments.
Here in “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto, has a large chunk of it that talks about the public school system in the U.S and its history and purpose. I agree with Gatto, partly. Teachers and educators severely need a new school system, and it does indeed need it. The big question is why we still haven’t done anything to try and change the school system into something different and better? After going through the public school system for about 15 years, should people feel as if they just went to school then switch to a remaining life of working like drones of another system? The system that we have today has taken over the sense of creativity and replaced it with one that believes in the opposite. Creativity and individualism, this is the reverse of the school system we have today according to Gatto. Compared to when the public school system first started, here in the present our society doesn’t have the same requirements and needs of what we used to need. What we do need in our society right now for our school system is individualism and creativity.
We ended up staying in Philadelphia for a couple of days, from September 2-4 to be exact. We mostly partied and celebrated for these days. We had very large suppers with everyone, soldiers and civilians. It feels like it’s been ages since we have been home. The only thing missing is our parents. My father died early in the revolutionary war. He actually died in the battle of Concord. My mother was a wonderful woman and died when I was very young. I loved her with everything I had. Then illness swept through and took her from
I got to relive my experiences that I made as a young child. I feel content knowing that I can visit my childhood house any time I would like. Also, when I start my own family I would be able to bring my children there for them to see where I grew up and to make their own amazing memories as I did. Even though, at one point in my life this loss of my childhood house was brought sadness and loss to my life, but I was able to resolve it. Now, I am thankful that I was able to move to a new country and establish new memories in a new house as an adult. A loss can entail anything and for me it was my childhood house where I created lots of memories and experiences that I will never forget and one day continue to share with my future children and
The North American education system consists of many benefits, it also hosts countless flaws. Education is an essential part of lives around the world. Everyday students attend classes, but it is not always evident as to why
Likewise, schools here are vastly improved than my nation. The educators are instructing exceptionally well. The style or the system helps the understudies to concentrate hard and like it. For instance, homework, tests, and being in the school regular are checked in your report card. Life here is brilliant and delightful.
Almost two years ago, around mid-February of 2014, I came to this country. My journey from my country to the United States was quite an experience that I would never forget. In one way it was good and in another way, it was challenging for my family to move here. Since I was coming with my family, the journey was way longer and made me feel like it was taking forever. For me personally flowing out of a country that I lived for almost 16 years was not that easy; But in here I’m still enjoying every day, meeting new people and creating new memories.
