Recommended: Genogram summary
Genogram I have learned a lot more about my family by completing this project. I knew my grandma divorced my mom’s biological dad right after my mom was born, but I did not know they were married for less than a year. I also learned that the only reason they got married in the first place was because in order for my grandma to finish high school while being pregnant she needed to be married. Overall, my family does not have many health concerns. My dad’s mom has high cholesterol and so does my dad. I need to be careful as I get older and keep track of my cholesterol levels. My mom had part of her thyroid removed because she had a benign tumor on the gland. Knowing alcoholism runs in my family I need to be careful and know the warning signs
This assignment allows for the application of community and public health nursing concepts learned in theory and clinical by implementing them through an assigned virtual family. These learned elements are directed toward the Grape family from the movie “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”. The public health nurse (PHN) aims to recognize the various stressors in the Grape family and provide relevant resources that can prevent further stress and negative interference on the family unit and community. This is completed by conducting a thorough family assessment from which a plan with interventions is created. An analysis of the interventions along with the outcomes will be provided. A genogram and ecomap are significant tools used to address the genetic
Guillermo - (Memo): Enrique Castiliio he was very studious, he was always studying and you get the feeling that he knew it was his only way out.
In this week four assignment, my focus is directed to the Hernandez family. I will present a genogram of the Hernandez family and subsequently identify an element that influences the manner in which Juan and Elena address their presenting concern with their social worker. Additionally, I will explain how the presented genogram may help me as a social work professional to successfully address the needs of the Hernandez family.
Using nursing strategies that are unique for each family based on their individual genetic and genomic variations is fairly new in the area of nursing (Munro, 2014) and interventions for this family should be tailored to helping them keep up on current information about heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, which are the main medical issues in their family medical history, and having a plan that ensures they continue getting regular health checkups.
The intent of this interview was discussed with the family, namely, how the data would be used to discuss family experiences for an assignment in Family and Societal Nursing for RNs at State University. Most importantly, I mentioned to the family that I hoped to provide them with interventions and support to...
Interview & Reflection I have interviewed my Father through email over a week period, he was very helpful to me and even knew the answers to the questions I had on my Mother side of the family. I felt he was the best to interview as he is one of the smartest people I know. Of course I talked to him in our native language (Arabic) even though his English was perfect, but I wanted him to feel more comfortable when answering, so I translated everything to English. Below is a list of the questions I asked him and his replies: (Answers are bolded). The first question I have is, why is it that I feel that our family is much bigger than the regular western family?
Understanding where one’s natural impulses come from may be difficult to understand without looking at past generations and family history. Knowing that generations before us helped shape our development is important to note. Generational trends can help explain the importance of said values. Through analysis of my cultural genogram I found that many of my core values came from my Mexican culture, despite having had great exposure to values established by the dominant culture here in the United States. I found that my family over many generations regarded familismo, respeto, religion, and work ethic as highly important values. It is important to deeply analyze where these values came from, how they may be oppressed, and how
...es of developing these diseases. While a family history provides information about the risk of specific health concerns, having a family history of certain medical conditions doesn’t mean that you will develop the same conditions. Disease is not imminent, by developing lifestyle changes your health can be controlled and risk lowered by changing behaviors that increase your chances.
The Human Genome Project The Human Genome Project began in the mid - 1980s as an international scientific mission to map all the genetic material (i.e. genes) in human chromosomes and ultimately build the complete set of genetic information contained within molecules of deoxyribosenucleic acid (DNA) known as the genome. The project aims to improve the methods used to prevent and cure diseases because the keys to many of the worst illnesses of our time, like cancer and diabetes, can be found in genetic variations in DNA. The Human Genome Project is international, and has involved collaborations and contributions from researchers throughout the world, all of whom have donated their results freely to the public databases. It is the largest collaborative project ever attempted in biology, involving scientists in the USA, Australia, Japan, Germany, the UK, Italy, Russia, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Israel and elsewhere. The Human Genome Project aims to: * Determine the sequence of the four bases (adenine, cytosine, thymine and guanine) throughout all the DNA in human cells; * Identify the estimated 100 000 genes formed by the bases; * Find the locations of the genes on the 23 human chromosomes; * Store all this information on databases for future research; * Consider all the ethical, legal and social issues which arise from obtaining information about the human genome.
The human genome project is something that I have been very interested with ever since first learning of it. I had heard bits and pieces of what it is about, but my interest was greatly stimulated by Dr. Whited in basic genetics 311 last spring. The discussion that we had regarding the project left me with several ideas and questions about not only the process and ethics involved, but the future of the study of genetics as a whole.
Do you ever wonder who your ancestors were? Do you ever wonder if you're related to anyone famous in history? I would guess that at some point you have pondered these questions. I know that I have. But how do you find out who your ancestors were and what they were like? Genealogy is the study of your ancestors and their descendants. In the last few years I havebecome very interested in genealogy and want to start researching my family history. With very limited experience in the field, where would I start? I figured that I could get at least some information from the Internet, so that is where I went.
effects has this had on the family?" This brings us to our first research area,
Creating my personal genogram was a valuable experience for me. By mapping out my family’s structure, and considering the dynamics of the relationships therein, I am able to see how each member of my immediate family took on specific roles and that addictions are present on both sides of my family. My paternal grandmother, Ginny, was an alcoholic and passed this trait to my father. My mother demonstrated signs of substance abuse through smoking and drinking, and both parents passed these to my sister and me: Whitney struggled with various addictions, the most severe of which was methamphetamine and I have had an ongoing struggle with smoking and past experiences with anorexia.
On my Grandma Mary’s side, I see an overwhelming amount of deaths directly connected to alcohol abuse, obesity, and type 2 diabetes; this showing that their lifestyle choices were the cause of many of their health related problems. Since many of Grandma Mary’s family members live on the west coast, I had no contact with them; however, my father has told me that much of our family has stayed away from my Grandma Mary’s side because the health choices they have made have created stress on the family. This may be the reason I see a change in some lifestyle behaviors in my father’s generation when it comes to substance abuse. On the other hand, in the case of my father and my Great Uncle Don, you see that their military involvement created many of the health related issues t...
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer to self-discovery.
