I am defending the American Dream because I believe that the dream is still real in today’s world and can be achieved depending on how hard you are willing to work. I am also defending the dream because, in my opinion the American Dream means to have equality and freedom in the world, which in America we have a lot of freedom. In the world today, there is still conflict with people not treating others right because of skin color. The American Dream is the concept of being able to be equal with one another and for everyone to have equal amounts of freedom. Unfortunately the world we live in today does not consist of equality. In the world today there is still controversy between people because of the color of their skin and in my opinion it …show more content…
I am choosing Walid, the street car vendor from the PBS series “My Everyday Hustle”. Walid story defends the American Dream because when Walid came to America it is where he got his rights, as he stated in the video. Walid is from Egypt and he moved to America and lives in New York. He has been vending for many years, he loves the kitchen and makes enough money to support his family (Public Broadcast Services). In the video Walid states, “America is the land of my opportunity, I got my rights in America”, meaning he is able to do something that he loves everyday and has freedom (Public Broadcast Services). This defends the dream because it shows how free America. It also shows how much rights America gives us that some other countries might not give to their people, America is a great country. I also think that by Walid saying, “America is the land of my opportunity”, shows hows much freedom we have here in …show more content…
People believe the other side of the argument believe that not everyone can reach the dream and because everyone has a different perspective of it. The TED talks video challenges the existence of the American Dream because Courtney Martin talks about how she has a new dream and that we should live in a different world. In the video Courtney Martin states, “We should live like our immigrants and ancestors, they lived together and knew how to survive. Also they always had more room to help more people.” This challenges the dream because she is trying to come up with a new dream and thinks that we should live differently in today’s world. Courtney Martin also states, “We should work like our mothers because they make it work and make time flexible enough to do what they have to do to get things done.” Not all mothers are able to work like that and cannot be flexible enough to do what they have to do to get things done. Everyone lives a different life and has problems of their
The American Dream is to be able to contribute, make your voice be heard, and for everyone to have equal rights. The dream is possible because hard work help accomplish
The argument that is presented is that not everyone can accomplish the dream even if they were dedicated, and worked hard. The ideal dream for Americans to achieve was to be successful and provide for their family, but for some people dreams are affected by their environment or by not having the proper material to get to where they need to be in life. For instance, someone who is oppressed in society won’t have the resources as someone who lives in a healthy environment or comes from a wealthy family. They instead will face being in-depth and having the struggle of trying their best so they can provide for their family once they graduate. The dream itself doesn’t take into consideration of these factors, it instead upholds one image of who actually is able to achieve the dream. Which would be someone who is able-bodied, Caucasian, of Middle or High

First, what is the American dream? According to David Wallechinsky, “the traditional American Dream is based on the belief that hardworking citizens can improve their lives, pay their monthly bill without worry, give their children a start to an even better life, and still save enough to live comfortably after they retire” (1). “The American Dream” states, “It has always represented the possibility for individuals to succeed and live a life of wealth and comfort, made possible by both the political and economic attitudes in the USA and the individual’s own hard work” (1). Daniella Nicole adds that “in years past, chasing the American Dream meant the sky was the limit. . .” (1). “At the core of the concept is the individual’s responsibility to aim for and achieve the American dream by working hard and taking advantage of the freedom offered to them by the country” (“The American Dream” 1). “A recent nationwide survey from LearnVest found that 43 percent of Americans today feel the dream is attainable for everyone - and about the same percentage feels that it’s within their grasp, personally,” notes Camille Noe Pagan. “For American Dreamers today,” states Nicole, ...

There are various individuals throughout the world who believe that the American Dream cannot be achieved by all people. Those who agree with this view believe that our culture contains too many roadblocks and obstacles. Some of these obstacles include prejudice, poverty, and social inequality. Another view on this matter is that others believe that America is the “Land of Opportunity”. They also believe that if you can believe it, you can achieve it. Back in the early 20th century, The American Dream meant something to people; nowadays it is a term that various people loosely throw around. The American Dream is not realistic because it is not attainable to everyone like Cal Thomas presumes and although education, budget cuts and lack of employment may seem of some concern to only a small group of people, it should in fact concern anyone who cares about the status of the economy.
The American dream is the general belief that American Citizens all have an equal opportunity to succeed socially and economically, regardless of any predating circumstances. This idea has been accepted as possible by the majority of citizens in this country. This “dream” cannot be true, as there are multiple discriminations in this country, which make it impossible for everyone to have the same chance to succeed. Biases against racial minorities, women, and citizens from lower social classes are examples of just a few reasons that everyone does not have the same chance to succeed in our current economic and social system in America, resulting in unequal chances to achieve “the American Dream.”
The American Dream has changed; it is no longer the same as it was fifty or even one hundred years ago. Today, people not only search for prosperity and wealth, but they also search for happiness, equality, and determination. The American Dream is for everyone, not just the rich. The term “The American Dream” is a term used to describe the American way of life in general. It is a noun stating “the idea that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.” Dreams are not limited to just one social class, everyone has a different version of the American Dream but they all work together in a community to create an organized, working society. A dream is a cherished aspiration, ambition, or idea that is open to anyone.
