My Educational Goals and Philosophy Statement
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and academically. It is my desire as a future educator to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are two elements that I believe are essential to establishing such an environment, (1) allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (2) promoting respect for all things and all people.
Giving children the opportunity to study things that are meaningful and relevant to one’s life and interests is what progressivism is all about. I believe education should be child-centered and focused on having students acquire problem solving skills. For a child to have a successful educational experience, their curriculum must be individualized to meet their needs and interests. Children should be encouraged to improve, but not pushed to achieve past the level appropriate for them at a particular time. If curriculum is related to life experiences that a child understands, it will be easier for them to comprehend and it will have more lasting meaning to them.
Another aspect of progressivism that I will incorporate in my classroom, is teaching my students about multiculturalism, including peop...
Isaac Newton was born in 1642, the same year Galileo died, in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England on Christmas Day. He is considered one of the greatest scientists in history. As an English mathematician and physicist, Newton made important contributions to many fields of science. His discoveries and theories laid the foundation for much of the progress in science since his time. The three most important offerings of Newton are solving the mystifications of light and optics, formulating his three laws of motion, and deriving from them the law of universal gravitation. Also he contributed so much to the fields of mathematics too.
Isaac Newton had a huge impact on the Enlightenment, he influenced it scientifically in many ways and he influenced faith and reason in a tremendous way. He was known more for his scientific achievements then his religious works. His background and education affected when he made these great achievements. Isaac Newton born on December 25,1642 in Woolsthorpe, England grew up, he was the most important physicist and mathematician of all time.1 Newton attended Cambridge where he studied mathematics. Although he was considered a genious he was also considered an eccentric who was unsociable, vindictive, absent-minded and paranoid, he was considered to have a mid-life mental illness caused by the death of his mother.2Newton was very modest to the extent he had his friends publish his papers.3Newton fled Cambridge to escape the plague, during this period he made many of his accomplishments.4 Also he was persecuted for his faith in God. Thousand of men and women who were good Christians were thoroughly loyal to politics and the belief that science and religion aren’t compatible. Many men and women had nothing but dislike and even contempt.5
Progressivism also considers the interests of the students to help improve society and the students individual. It organizes schools around the concerns, curiosity, and real world experiences of students. Teaching in a progressivist classroom will help students reach their full potential causing them to feel capable of doing more complex subjects in their future lives. By creating this feeling in the students as a teacher I would feel accomplished because my students are now going to overcome any problem in the world with confidence and
Racial profiling has been one of the biggest civil rights conflicts since it's conception. Today it has progressed into the group who is suppose to protect you day and night – law enforcement. In their defense, they use this as a tactic. Although, how effective is this method? Racial profiling has a more negative impact rather than positive. Different groups of people are typically born into their financial, social status and environment that does not allow for the same opportunities as others. However, this does not define each person within that group to be the same.
Recently in New York City the “stop and frisk” law was passed causing mostly African Americans, Muslims, and Asians to be targeted and stopped by law enforcement to be humiliated in many different ways. Police officials and officers use racial profiling to determine or arrest people who have no criminal records or have not committed a crime. In addition, some people in the society believe racial profiling is a gateway to prevent crimes and should be practiced. Even though this practice may indeed be solving crimes in society but the ineffectiveness of racial profiling breaks down the growth and unity
in todays society, an often recurring topic of racial profiling seems to plague the world through many political aspects. Racial profiling is one of the biggest injustices that individuals face in the world mainly because racism has always been something that plagued this world. Even though racial profiling is something that’s plaguing the world in today’s society, part of the biggest reason why this is such a problem is because of our worlds history. In many years past, different races use to do certain things that would often cause others to commit racial profiling. For example, since muslims were the cause of the devastation of 9/11, people will automatically have a natural reaction of fear when they are on an airplane. Racial profiling
Racial profiling can take on physical, psychological, and behavioral characteristics. I can happen almost anywhere; it can happen while you are applying for a job, shopping at the grocery store, or while traveling. If you are hispanic, african, from the middle east or german you are considered a “minority” in america. If you are a minority you or a family member probably been a victim of racial profiling. It may not be fair in your eyes but in others its justice; thats why the government needs to put a stop to this controversy and racist actions. (Holbert and Rose
Sir Isaac Newton was an established mathematician and physicist and was credited an important figure during the 17th century Scientific Revolution.. He was one of the most influential scientist during the Enlightenment. He developed the Law of Universal Gravitation which laid as a foundation for understanding the universe. Sir Isaac Newton was a major figure during the Enlightenment because of his discoveries and works that lead to breakthroughs in science, mathematics, astronomy, and in the study of light.
The research of anxiety and depression in relation to university students is one of high importance as university is a place where high performance is required in order to gain good results and plays a role in deciding the future of students who attend. While entrance to a university life or other tertiary education institutions is a joyous time, it can be a stressful life event for some students (Wong et al., 2006) During university, students face a number of new stress...
Isaac Newton is one of, if not the most, revered and influential scientists in the world. He played a major part in helping both “The Enlightenment” and “The Scientific Revolution”. His main contributions to the two causes came through his many great works and his successful research.
... modern society. By discovering the laws of physics, Newton has set the basis by which all of society must abide. As time progresses and society tries to defy the power of gravity in different aspects, Newton’s importance has only increased. With all this research in mind, it was found that Isaac Newton’s main contributing factor was his education. This led to all his findings and discoveries. His discoveries impacted many people. Isaac Newton impacted scientists and people around the world. He has impacted people today. As time has passed Isaac Newton’s importance and discoveries has only increased over time, resulting in Isaac Newton’s ideas becoming critical factors of science. Making his way in to the children’s educational system. Therefore, Isaac Newton was knighted by the king and queen and was said to be the greatest Scientist/ Mathematician of all time.
My aspect towards which philosophies to use in education is eclectic. I predominately agree with the Progessivist theory because it is student centered and perceives students as individuals. I believe that these individual needs should be expressed and accommodated in the classroom. I also feel its important for the educational environment to include a democratic process, where students have a chance to voice their opinions about the material they will learn and the rules that they must follow. I feel that when students help direct their own path, that they gain more respect in the classroom and increase their drive to learn. Another factor I’m akin to about using Progressivism in the classroom is that it is experience-centered and deals with actual problems that students face in life. I agree with John Dewey’s belief that students learn more by doing because it has meaning. An additional belief that Dewey and myself consider vital is that students should learn how to apply previously learned information and skills to solve new issues. This teaches students’ critical thinking skills and problem solving methods.
Sir Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, near Grantham in Lincolnshire, England. Newton is clearly the most influential scientist who ever lived. His accomplishments in mathematics, optics, and physics laid the foundations for modern science and revolutionized the world.
Isaac Newton was a well-known English scientist. He accomplished a lot during his time and influenced the world a great deal. He is considered to have contributed more to science than any other person. His life can be divided into three periods. The first one was his early childhood, he second was the time of his accomplishments, and the third is his later life. Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His family was poor and his parents farmed for a living. His father died three months before he was born. His mother later remarried a minister and Newton went to stay with his grandmother. He attended a grammar school at the age of eleven, but did not do well. His teachers said that he did not pay attention. His mother then decided to pull him out of school and put him in charge of her properties. Newton decided that he did not want to do this, and, with the help of his uncle, Newton convinced his mother to let him return to school. Stokes, the headmaster of the school, saw that Newton had potential, therefore, he put extra time into tutoring, guiding and mentoring Newton (O'Connor & Robertson 1-2). Newton entered Cambridge College on June 5, 1661. He was older than most of the students there and entered as a sizar (a student who received money for college expenses in exchange for being a servant to other students). He wanted to major in law.
Besides the people who think they’re smart agreeing that evolution is a myth, everyone else in the world knows that everything constantly changes or evolves. Technology and even everyday ways of life are constantly being altered to become more efficient or convenient for evolving lifestyles. This isn't always the ideal way of doing things, but it is how our world works. Our world may seem as if it’s driving itself into chaos, or it may appear as blank canvas to others. To me, I see our changing world as both because both good and bad things are happening in it. Convenient or weird, things in the world are always going to change, and I want to point out some of those things in this essay.
