Who knew one piece of paper could change your life significantly? An event I will remember forever is the day that I got my driver's permit. I remember thinking that with this license, I would finally be able to go where I want, whenever I want, when I want. I would be driving like the rest of the adults in my family. Usually on important days, it is hard for me to sleep. I end up sleeping in 1 hour increments anticipating the day ahead of me. That night was no different from any other “important” night. Eventually I woke up to my alarm blaring its signature ringing sound. It was time for me take my driver’s test. I observed the emotions in their faces, some were rightfully nervous, others had blank stares as if they had taken the test a million times before. Finally they call my ticket to begin to test. I greet the lady at the desk and hand her all the necessary documents. As I am meeting the test proctor, my heart begins racing, and I begin sweating a little bit. I keep calm as to not give away my anxiousness to the test administrator. We introduce ourselves and get into the car. At first, the test is just as I expected it would go, nothing caught me by surprise, until we began driving on the road. I usually went driving every weekend with my Dad but this situation was obviously different. All those hours of weekend driving still made me feel like a dependent teen. I was not driving for real, I did not have any real control of where the car was going to go. When I practiced with my Father, we would always go in circles on a predetermined course.
