Know Thyself – though a maxim, yet it conveys an immense depth of meaning. However, when one grows up in a culture, where individual identity seeps beyond the confines of the skin into the community and its traditions, knowing oneself and one’s passions can be a challenge. My childhood quest was to find out what I wanted and to paraphrase Ronaldinho, I learnt about it with a ball at my feet. There was no epiphany, no defining moment but as soon my feet kicked the first football at the age of eleven, I was home. My classmates and I used to play soccer every day back then and the thirst for the game was such that we could hardly pay any attention when we were in class! By the time I turned thirteen, soccer had become my passion and I only dreamt of getting into the school soccer team. Consequently, the team seniors became my role models and my passion grew as I learned about their triumphs in tournaments. Resolved to make my …show more content…
Getting up early is something I carry with me till date, a habit which helps me in getting a head start to the day. Even though the other players were naturally more talented and more athletic than I, my determination and capacity for application was greater than theirs. Ultimately, my assiduousness as well as good fortune combined to give me an opportunity to showcase my talents – our coach consented to a friend’s recommendation that I play in an inter-school friendly match. Overcome with joy, I played with my heart and finally got into the junior soccer team. However, my journey was far from over. More early mornings and harder training sessions followed. I strived to achieve my goals and my hard work was vindicated when I became the captain of my team and earned the membership part of the senior soccer setup. As team captain, I learned that forming a personal bond with each player was crucial because it was easier to win when one was playing with ten best friends by one’s
From an early age I always knew I would be playing soccer my whole life. My dad showed me the ropes of how to play and got me interested right away. By the age of three I had started playing, and to this day I have not stopped. Soccer has been a huge part of my life and I don’t know where I would be today if I never played. I met some amazing people playing soccer including my coaches who encouraged me and told me never to give up as well as my teammates who became my friends and were always there for me.
I played soccer since I was seven, as of the last few years I played at a very high level. I have represented Ohio South two times at a regional showcase, I have been invited to participate in a camp in Manchester, England and attended the camp twice. Also last Season for the Newark High School soccer team I was named first team all league and third team all central district. Soccer was the first sport I truly loved to do, I wanted to be the best. I work hours upon hours to master whatever part of the game I wanted to improve on. Soccer has taught me to have a great work ethic, and that mentality came when I was cut from the state team the first time I tried out. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I was destroyed, and I thought I was not good but I knew I could do better. The next year I worked, I got bigger, stronger, faster, my soccer I.Q. was higher;therefore, overall I was a much better player. The result of that work, was that I made the team, but not only, I made the starting line up. After that I knew I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.
Childhood experiences tend to stay within a person 's life, including the ones that have taught you something as valuable as courage. For me, such experience that taught me how to be courageous, as I am presently, took place when I was about the age of 8. I was traveling with my family from one continent to another to reach our desired destination: America. Before, I had lived in the same city for as long as I remembered and knew everyone around me. I knew my whole village in and out like it was at the back of my hand and was comfortable in whatever corner I went. So as one could imagine, a hometown girl, who hasn’t been exposed to any other areas besides her birthplace, planted in an immense airport, in New York City, wouldn’t result pleasantly. When we were waiting for our
Lots of observations were collected whilst the children were making their maps and working together to find the word treasure, so I have highlighted just a few to address the overall understandings of the findings.
As I was growing up, it was my dream to become a famous soccer player. Driven by this motivation, I started playing soccer when I was five years old. Since then I had played for my elementary, middle, and high school team until I joined college and focused on my study.
In front of my bed, a small cork board is pinned to the wall. Every night since the fall of 2012, I have read the soccer motivation quotes before I went to sleep. As my high school years flew past me, the signs piled up It seemed as though before I had time to blink, it was the summer before my senior year. The night before my first day of conditioning, I rearranged all the things I collected to motivate myself over the past three years. One of those motivators that did not exist on my cork board, however, were my past captains. I had always looked up to my captains. One of which was Abby. I had always admired Abby’s determination, especially watching it increase after receiving the captain spot. I used her determination to drive my own. Every year, I strived for their approval and compliments. From the moment I started soccer, I knew I wanted to be a team captain my senior year.
Childhood studies is a disciplinary that looks at childhood from birth to 18 years as this is the age range that the United Nations Convention has placed on childhood. Although there are many sub-categories within childhood studies such as early years, middle years and youth, the lines between when one stops and the next one starts are vague, it depends on a number of different things such as area for the end of early years, places vary for instance, early years in Sweden is 7 and in Wales is 8 according to Montgomery (Farrington-Flint and Hammersley, 2016) and puberty, which ends the middle years but this depends on the child’s age that they reach puberty, as all children develop differently. Childhood studies is interdisciplinary, which means that they take several perspectives and look back on work from other academic sources such as; psychology, anthropology, education, health and social
When I turned three, I started playing my favorite sport to this day, Soccer! I love soccer because it gives me this feeling of excitement and I just love winning with all of my friends on the field. What is childhood? To some its the upbringing and quality of life given to the child within the first several years of the child's life. In its simplest form, childhood is classified as the age span which ranges from birth to adolescence. During those years of childhood, most children go through various different physical and cognitive changes. Those stages are sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages. The sensorimotor stage extends from both to when the child first starts to grasp the concept of language. In the pre-operational stage is when the child starts
Whether identified as football or soccer, the passion and fire of the soccer fuels the lives of those indulged in the love for it. I believe I could be an ambassador to the beautiful game executing my critical ideas and strategies with the unending attempt to achieve a goal. Soccer has been a crucial component of my development into a young adult since it involves constant attention to all areas of the field and involves roles of teamwork as well as individual leadership. Since my early elementary years, my life has revolved around the sport through which I have experienced countless memories, formed many relationships, and acquired numerous life lessons.
Stepping onto the sun-kissed soccer field, I felt a surge of adrenaline course through my veins. It was a hot summer day, and the anticipation of the upcoming match against our arch-rivals had me on edge. Little did I know, this game would be more than just a battle for victory—it would become a test of resilience and determination. Growing up, soccer was my passion. From the moment I could walk, I had a ball at my feet, dreaming of one day playing professionally.
I was borne in Arizona and grew up in the small town of Cortez located in southwest Colorado. My parents have been married for over 35 years, I have one older sister and three younger brothers. My father has always worked construction and for awhile he owned his own business. My mother was a stay at home mom and a home-school teacher. I was home-schooled in high school which allowed me to work construction with my father, this was the case for all my brothers as well. I took and passed my G.E.D at 18 and began working for my father full time. In 2004 I joined the Army and spent the next four years in North Carolina. Two of my other brothers also joined the Army at
Childhood studies is an interdisciplinary academic field of study which asks questions about the nature and experience of childhood across generations, throughout varying cultures and within different social and economical contexts. It covers an age range from 0-18 years and invokes research from a number of different subject areas such as history, law, anthropology, education, medicine and psychology with a view to better understand the issues surrounding the changes and transitions within childrens lives. Childhood studies looks further than simply viewing childhood as a biological state of development; proffering the view that childhood is a "social construction", and as such is subject to change depending on when and where childhood occurs and which social, political, cultural and economic factors are in play. As such, it champions the view that childhood will mean different things
When I got to high school soccer, everything changed. Soccer is so much different. I remember my first game, first play, i had the ball I got hit and i looked at my dad and he kinda shrugged. It took a lot to learn how to play at this new level. I worked hard through freshman, sophomore, and junior years.
