The sales event industry is such a diverse and dynamic field, that over the past 40 years, it has had a huge growth and change impact over time. The reason behind its growth is due to clients wanting more spectacular events. It is said that the growth rate in careers will be 33 % from 2012 to 2022, which is actually much faster than any other occupation. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015) It is also projected that from 2012 to 2020 there will be approximately 44,200 job openings in this industry alone. (O Net Development) When being hired for this field, employers are looking for employees to work as a team to provide a variety of services to create a special event for their clients.
The purpose of this paper will be to explore my career option in event management. The elements that will be investigated will include job responsibilities, trends, career opportunities, self-analysis, and skills that are required to be successful in this career. The research that I will be doing will be based on articles, the web, and books. I will also be conducting an interview within an industry professional in this field that works at the Orlando World Center. So, who is an event manager and what do they do? An event manager is the person that is responsible for organizing an event from start to finish. They do so by coordinating the details of the event, as well as calculating budgets and ensuring that client agrees to it. They will meet with clients to understand what it is they are wanting to do and from there they will take the next steps in planning and developing the event. After completing my research on this industry, I do agree that this is something that I would like to go into one day. I know that it will be a lot of work to get here, but I know that in the end it will be all worth it. I see myself as working as an event planner one day and working my way up from there. All I know is that being able to organizing a special event and work as a team with other people has been something that has interested me and after doing this research I have learned new things that I didn’t know before that now I’m more intrigued about this industry. Now I just have to take the next step in accomplishing this goal and sticking to it no matter comes in my way.

After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the statement ‘The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development’. The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also providing an understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event industry in contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize and justify the event industry as part of the tourism sector and explore specific implications to event management.
