Jessica Anderson December 6, 2016 English 1010-047 Reflection The first paper in my portfolio is my annotated bibliography. I did my annotated bibliography on barefoot running. A lot of the sources I used were about how to get started on barefoot running and how it is better for your body than running in shoes. Most of the articles that I read were helpful to me and what I was hoping to learn about barefoot running. I had heard about barefoot running and have a few people I know that are really into it, they have tried to get me to start on barefoot running and I just haven’t taken the time to. Researching barefoot running for this assignment was really intriguing for me and something that I really enjoyed. My annotated bibliography was really …show more content…
Even though I wasn’t using my research for an actual paper I can see how doing an annotated bibliography could be really helpful and in the long run save you time. I have summarized things in the past, but doing this assignment helped me be better at summarizing and really just touching on key points in the article. My annotated bibliography was the paper that included research. I found that without doing the research I would have been very one sided in my writing and wouldn’t know any facts about barefoot running. While doing my research, I found many tips that would be good to know if I was wanting to transform from running with shoes on to running barefoot. I learned why people do it and what arguments people make about how it is better for your body. In the past I kind of just thought that people did it because they didn’t like wearing shoes or they thought it was cool. During my research, however, I found that there are real benefits of barefoot running on the body. I now have a more educated, unbiased opinion on the subject. The other paper is my genre #2 which I chose to do a …show more content…
I wanted to get the readers of my blog interested and hopefully encourage them to go and see Tonga for themselves, so they can have some of the wonderful experiences that I had. I learned how to write a blog and that there are many different types if blogs. I have grown immensely as a writer since I wrote a blog for my 2nd genre experiment. I have learned how to open up and to write exactly what is on my mind. I feel that I have been more aware of the audience of my paper since making my blog. Before doing this assignment, I would just get my papers done to turn them in and never look at them again. I didn’t care whether it was interesting or not because the only person that would be reading it was my teacher. Because I was going to be publishing my blog, I decided to take more time on making it appealing to anyone that read it. I went beyond just “doing” the assignment for the grade. If you look through all of the papers that I have written his semester, you can clearly see the growth that I have made as a writer. I have learned how to use rhetorical modes more effectively and how to appeal to many different

I have never been the strongest writer. To be honest I was nervous about this course and how much writing was involved in it. With that being said, the research paper I wrote on James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues”, was very challenging me. I am overall satisfied with my essay but feel if I had practiced better time management and spent more time analyzing it, the result would have been a more detailed and better organized essay. I put my essay in the Successful category, although I did meet the course outcomes in my paper, it contains grammatical errors and does not flow as well as an Exemplary paper would.
I think extreme mesomorph would not be the ideal body type for endurance activities such as long distance running because a long distance runner has more of an ectomorph body type. An ectomorph has characteristics of what a long distance runner looks like e.g. Extreme ectomorph's tend to be tall and lightly muscled and have flat chests also a thin face and narrow shoulders and hips. They generally don’t build muscles easily and also does not store fat very quickly. Long distance runners carry as little weight as possible. Running a race over a mile or more involves strength and muscular endurance. Carrying too much weight is a burden for distance runners and slows their speed. When long Distance runners are running they are constantly burning
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.
Over the course of this semester, I have progressed as a writer. Picking up new skills and dropping old bad habits has transformed me into a much better writer than when I entered the English 101. Entering this class, the only English classes that I took were mandatory high school classes all four years. In these classes, however, content was focused on reading novels, poems, and literature. There was usually only one major writing assignment each year, which was a research paper on a topic that was given by our teachers. Although there was some writing involved in these classes, most of the class time was spent on improving my reading and comprehension skills. A small part of the class was given to improve my skills as a writer and even a researcher. In English 101, however, most of the class time was spent on writing and more specifically, academic writing. This includes doing proper research, picking a worthy topic to write about, correctly analyzing sources, and developing a well-rounded, complete paper. I have progressed a writer over the semester by effectively integrating and analyzing sources better, and being more specific with my words.
When demonstrating my growth as a writer across several pieces, there are four main learning outcomes in which I have focused on. These include writing, reading, researching and reflecting. Within these learning outcomes, there are many different conventions and ways to understand my various projects and assignments as a writer. Throughout the English 1020 class, I have been able to observe not only my previous strengths, but myself growing as a writer by improving my ability to find strong sources as well as properly citing and explaining them, forming a more logical paragraph structure, and many more conventions when writing an assignment.
What is Biomechanics? It is the study of forces and their effects on the living system (McGinnis, 2013). In this essay, I will be looking at the biomechanics of running. Running, as well as any other sport requires skills for which advancement is due to consistent deliberate practice and effective development. However, runners should establish a training system that actively builds their original running pattern instead of basing it on what works well for others. Understanding the biomechanics of running gives a better knowledge of their running techniques and points out areas of concerns that require improvement. Despite the fact that running is dependent on the interaction of the whole body, breaking down the running pace into single components allows us to further understand how minor changes can increase improve performance and decrease injury risk.
Cross-country running, a sport that requires the fusing of body and mind, strives to maximize your physical ability by testing your mental tenacity. Everyday represents a new struggle to beat yesterday's maximum output, an issue of mind over matter. I have known the agony of this conflict since I joined the newly established cross-country team. As convincing as my morning doubts are, I do not heed them. Through pains and sprains and through adverse weather and unfavorable conditions, I run because I made up my mind three years ago to succeed.
I stared at the blinking cursor, unbelieving at what I had just done. I was indeed done; done with a paper I agonized over for 6 hours. The paper was due in a scant 4 hours and I had all week to do it. The radio had stopped working because my brother got on the Internet and thus cut off my connection. That was the least of my problems working on this paper. I got it done, though. My life changed with one trip of a teacher to the chalkboard and one phrase, narrative essay. God, I hate narrative essays.
There are main features to annotated bibliographies such as, a statement of the scope, complete bibliographic information, a concise description of the work, relevant commentary, and consistent presentation. A statement of scope that specifies a short preliminary account to clarify what you’re talking about and this determines a setting for the bibliography and reveals a drive for composing it. Complete bibliographic information gives all the details about using the MLA, APA, or others that your readers or researchers will have the ability to locate simply. A concise description of the work is cautiously and impartially offering the right information and exhibiting recognition of the basis and as a writer this gives you influence. Relevant commentary is when you reflect on inquiries a possible reader would require and center on the appropriate foundation for your writing. Consistent presentation should follow a certain outline if it’s written in complete sentences or by a particular phrase this is called portraying the work.
Main drivers for US profitability has been within women shoes, broken down in sub categories of casual (17%), dress (13%), and athletic (10%) shoes, composing roughly a 40% demand of the market. However, domestically men’s athletic shoes represent 20% of the market and show signs of increase, globally men’s athletic shoes make up 30% of the market. This increase in sales within the athletic sub-category can be lead by the increase in demand for shoes that allow easy, fast movement. Studies show that ages within 18 and 45 in the U.S. have increased physical fitness by 17% since 2006. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor footwear grew...
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics. As a result my research papers and essays did not flow as smoothly from one passage to the next. Furthermore, I was unaccustomed with the precise procedures used when writing an essay. For instance, my previous classes before college, although requiring a reference page, did not require me to include proper citations in my writings. After evaluating the quality of my writing toward the end of the semester, I recognized vast improvements in several areas of my writing. By concentrating on the beginning stages of my writings, I could distinguish ahead of time my audience and my message. As a result, my essays are clear, and I remain on topic. In addition to that using transition phrases efficiently also helps my writing to flow smoothly. The proper use of transitions makes my writings easy to follow from one topic to the next. I also learned that pre-writing...

Shoes of every make and style are loved by women across the globe but it is the heel, whether stiletto or platform that is coveted, adored, desired in such abundance simply in and of the shoe itself. They're everywhere. They run rampant in books, calendars, photographs, album and movie covers, dangling in miniature precious metal versions from earlobes and chains, women's closets and even their living rooms, and let's not forget their most important place of residence- women's feet. They're a constant obsession in pop culture, endlessly talked about and fetishized in television, movies, song lyrics, and seem to be worn without fail by glamorous celebrities no matter the occasion. The most notorious of the shoe loving pop culture media is of the smash HBO series Sex and the City, in which shoes are one of its main themes.
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
