“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). Music is everywhere like when in an elevator, in a store, and even when in traffic; you may hear someone else's music blaring. Usually when people listen to music it’s to match their emotions. When someone is angry they may listen to loud fast pace music. If sad they would listen to slow pace music with lyrics that describe their mood. They also might use happy music to go from sad to happy, because music is a powerful thing, it can change a bad day to a good day. In addition, music can also play a role in therapy. Traditionally people diagnosed with anxiety disorders are treated with medications. However, many studies are finding that anxiety can be dealt with effectively with music therapy. Accordingly to one article on CNN, “The patients who listened to music had less anxiety and lower cortisol than people who took drugs” (Landau).The results of this study proves that music is an effective way to get rid of anxiety. The people that took medicine instead didn’t see as good results. Natural seems to be effective in this case. Additionally, people who suffer from depression may turn to medicine, but a good alternative is music therapy. Another study’s results from 2010 state that music provides, “Improvement in sleep latency & efficiency, total psychopathology score, and level of depression; significant correlation between reduction in situational anxiety and improvement in sleep efficiency” (Moore). The results of this study show that using music to treat people with depression has been successful. Not only their anxiety went down but their sleep efficiency went up. So, this means that music therapy can solve multiple problems patients may have.The best method by far is music therapy when trying to deal with mental disorders
