Since the creation of the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California back in 1922, it has been a major landmark where renowned performers share their talents with the people of Los Angeles. The Hollywood Bowl is one of Los Angeles’ most well known performance venues. It is known best for it’s location at the bottom of a canyon, which gives musical performs a natural acoustic sound due to the very nature of the location. Only the most well known performs would play there. Back in July 5, 1968 the psychedelic rock group, The Doors, were able to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a very important performance for the members of The Doors being that they were Los Angeles locals. The show has gone down in history everything from the band's ability …show more content…
In this concert, the audience got to see some of Jim Morrison's antics. In the song, “When the Musics Over,” you can see this . The song, “When the Musics Over,” is a serious song that has a very still moving ending where all the instruments get quiet except the keyboard. Which is playing the same low sounding pattern over and over again. This is right before Jim Morrison screams while climax of the song comes also, Jim did something really unexpected during the song when it was quite. He seemed to be observing the audience and listening to what the were screaming. Then all of the sudden, he burped in the microphone and the audience burst into laughter at what Jim had just done on stage. Another antic that Jim Morrison did on stage that amused the crowd a lot was in the song “Unknown Soldier”. This song is about soldiers that passed away in the Vietnam War and were brought back identified as an unknown soldier, this was clearly a protest song from that time. In the climax of the song, the drummer starts to a drum roll on the snare. He started off slowly and then get faster and faster until he hits them really hard mimicking the sound of a gun shooting. When the drummer made that gun noise, Jim Morrison fell to the ground as if someone had shot him. He completely let go off his body and was just laying on the ground, continuing to sing the song while the crowd cheered in amusement. These small things that Jim Morrison did on stage, or antics, show a lot of his personality, allows the people who are attending the show get to see what type of person he
Correspondingly, after a few songs the band responded by singing the songs that the audience liked and by motivating them to scream and cheer for them. This way the audience wouldn’t get bored and stop cheering and dancing. This event took place in a dome-shaped like place where it also holds events like bull riding. There was a floor section where the people stand and there was the seat section where it went around the place and it was fenced around. This is what Hispanics call a “Jaripeo” because you can have concerts and bull riding, which is kind of like being at the
The play I went to see was The Music Man performed by the Mesa Encore Theatre at the Mesa Community College. I saw this performance on November 20th. The main performers in this play were Zac Bushman as Harold Hill and Lauren Koeritzer as Marian Paroo. Alongside them, a mix of both adults and children as young as 8 acted in this production. The cast and crew used appropriate clothing to match the time and place. Lights were utilized scarcely, with not much more than spotlights or front and back lights. The set was extravagant, cute, and fitting for the setting and time. Overall, this musical was vibrantly performed and left me with positive impressions regarding presentation and production.
Jerry Garcia’s life was filled with wonderful things, many of which he never expected in the first place. After an almost fatal heroin overdose in 1986, “ Garcia philosophically stated, ‘ I’m 45 years old, I’m ready for anything, I didn’t even plan on living this long so all this shit is just add-on stuff.’ ” (“Garcia”) This attitude shows why Garcia did all of the things he did and even how some of them came about. Garcia, who “functioned as the preeminent pied piper of the rock era,” led a life of great artistic ability which he used in many ways(“Grateful Dead_ Rockhall”).
The live theatrical production I chose to see was 9 to 5 The Musical. The production was performed by Fayetteville Technical Community College’s very own Fine Arts Department. The musical is based on the film released by Fox in 1980. Collin Higgins adapted the film from the book 9 to 5 written by Patricia Resnick. It wasn’t until 2008 that the film was adapted to a theatrical production. The production was originally brought to broadway by Robert Greenbait and Dolly Parton wrote the lyrics and the music for the Musical. The run on broadway was very short but the production later toured in other countries around the around the world.
West London-based Mumford & Sons is a folk/indie-rock band that favours atypical instrumentation, conjures up a unique sound, and appeals to a wide range of listeners. Emerging from what some in the media have labeled as the “West London Folk scene”, Mumford and Sons features four 20-something multi-instrumentalists and close friends: Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwayne. The English foursome joined forces in December 2007, bonded over a mutual appreciation of folk, rock, country, and bluegrass, and adopted the stage name of Mumford & Sons to give the band a familial connotation. Four years and several live performances later, Mumford & Sons achieved widespread, multi-platinum success with their unique brand of music. Following their performance at the Grammy Awards in February 2011 (alongside Bob Dylan, nonetheless), the band found itself topping music charts, having sold millions of copies of their debut album, Sigh No More, worldwide.
The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.
Into the Woods is a musical based off of classic Grimms Brothers’ characters and their fairytales. The production explores the consequences of their wishes and the quests that they fulfill and take on. In writing this play, it seems as though Sondheim and Lapine were attempting to bring to life the classic fairytales of their youth with a twist of reality. Through this portrayal of classic tales, the audience is also taken back into their childhood for the entire two hours and forty-five minutes.
All music created has some kind of story behind it. It could be a bad story, good story, or even a complicated story. Every artist tells a story in their music that can relate to anyones life. Big Sean’s story on this album, Dark Sky Paradise talks about the bad and the good of paradise. The album has a lot of features from well known artist such as, Drake, Lil Wayne, Jhene Aiko and most importantly Kanye West because he started Sean’s career.
On Monday March 25, some members of the baseball team, my girlfriend, and I traveled to Murray State University to watch a concert performed by Nelly and the St. Lunatics. It was a terrible night to go anywhere because it was raining and storming the whole way, but there was nothing that was going to stop us from going to the concert. We where all so hyped up about it and couldn’t wait to head out. My brother, who attends Murray State, had gotten us excellent seats about seventy-five feet away from the stage.
While the musician?s were playing, I was surprised how the audience was. Most of the audience was talking loud, drinking alcohol and eating snacks. Some audience was even clapping hands and humming along with the song. This was quite an opposite environment compared to the concerts I went to. Sometimes the audience was so loud that I could barely hear the songs. It was interesting that even though the crowd was so loud, the musicians seemed very comfortable with it. They played the song as if the audience?s voice was also part of their song. When audience was loud, they would play loud and when audience became quite, they played very soft and tender. It might be to get audience?s attention. But, it seemed the m...

The 1960's were turbulent years in America, and Jim Morrison created an image of himself that stretched the boundaries of popular culture and entertainment. He was the first musician to truly live the creed of the moment, " sex drugs and rock and roll." Morrison's complicated lyrics, wild behavior, and personal charisma attracted many fans that worshipped him as a rock and roll icon. Morrision left them with a lot of great music and some very bad memories. Like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, he destroyed himself in the process of becoming a star.
McGowan’s interview connects on the Laurel Canyon, California bands and the 1960-1970’s hippie movement. During this time, there were many families moving to the area because of a Military base said to be in the area. Many of the bands mentioned in “The Wrecking Crew” had parents in the military, the biggest example that McGowan touched on was Jim Morrison from The Doors. McGowan discusses the possible chance that there are many bands that came out of Laurel Canyon and they didn’t play their own music, but he never came out flat and said it. At the time of his interview, not many knew what he was talking about.
Cold Water by Major Lazer This year, 2016, Major Lazer and Justin Bieber made a new release named “Cold Water”; probably one of their best hits yet. “Cold Water” is from the album Music Is the Weapon. “Cold Water” addresses that in breakups or that breaking point where it is almost to the end of the relationship, you don’t give up no matter what.
Then audience members who were perfect strangers who were screaming loudest would turn to each other with knowing glances and smile because they were sharing the same excitement and connecting with one another over their love of this man’s music. There was no pushing or shoving to get closer to the stage – it wasn’t that kind of crowd. Instead, there was mutual respect for one another’s space within the confines of the too-small venue. Nobody wanted to be the person who ruined it for someone else. It was this respect that made the audience members’ connections with one another that much stronger – we were all here to listen to this wonderful man’s music and see his performance – and, of course, we were here to enjoy it.
