Soundgarden was anything but 'superunknown' when it unleashed its album of that name on March 8, 1994. Superunknown was a critical and commercial success and became the band's breakthrough album. Nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 1995, certified five times platinum and having sold around nine million copies worldwide, Superunknown was a major success.

Superunknown has sadder and lower songs such as "Fell On Black Days", is possibly the most melancholic song of the album primarily due to its slow tempo "Fell On Black Days" doesn’t ruin the flow of the album however, despite being comparatively slow and soft to the rest of the album. “Mailman” has a similar feel to “Black Days", as it is dark and menacing. Not a weak track by any means, primarily due to the heavy bass and nice guitar solo. "The Day I Tried to Live" was a song often seen as a suicide-note song, when it was very much the opposite. The song is about Cornell deciding to engage with the outside world instead being …show more content…
Soundgarden refused to define themselves as just another head banger. They did deliver a healthy amount of metal, from the churning, drum-driven and heavy "Let Me Drown" to the slow grind of "Limo Wreck". The band spun its sound in many wonderful directions, filling "4th of July" with grinding and heavy riffs reminiscent of Black Sabbath to the quirky "Head Down."
Five singles were released from the album, including “ "The Day I Tried to Live", "My Wave", "Fell on Black Days", "Spoonman", and "Black Hole Sun" due to their immense success. “Black Hole Sun" and “Spoonman” are possibly Soundgarden’s most popular songs and helped launch them into mainstream. “Black Hole Sun" is amazing in all senses, and is no surprise it became a hit. It is as if the song encircles you and doesn’t let go. “Spoonman” is another great track with catchy riffs, good vocals and has a solid
Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago's hard-core punk scene, with which Wentz was heavily involved. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop punk side project of their respective hard-core bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording their debut album which became a huge success.
This song became the perfect background for PSA's. Maybe, after all, there was more to this band than sexuality and drugs. This album has a bit of each of the necessary elements to become a hit. In fact, it has. much more than that.

The history of the Grateful Dead begins in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. There, Jerry Garcia befriended a man named Robert Hunter. Later, Garcia, who had been playing guitar since he was 15, went on to be the band’s lead guitarist while Hunter helped write their lyrics. Jerry Garcia had played in many other bluegrass and folk bands, such as Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions. The band officially formed under the name of the Warlocks and consisted of Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Bill Kreutzmann, and Bob Weir. After their debut in July of ’65, they played at Ken Kesey's Acid Tests. This was a public party that took place regularly where all the
West London-based Mumford & Sons is a folk/indie-rock band that favours atypical instrumentation, conjures up a unique sound, and appeals to a wide range of listeners. Emerging from what some in the media have labeled as the “West London Folk scene”, Mumford and Sons features four 20-something multi-instrumentalists and close friends: Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwayne. The English foursome joined forces in December 2007, bonded over a mutual appreciation of folk, rock, country, and bluegrass, and adopted the stage name of Mumford & Sons to give the band a familial connotation. Four years and several live performances later, Mumford & Sons achieved widespread, multi-platinum success with their unique brand of music. Following their performance at the Grammy Awards in February 2011 (alongside Bob Dylan, nonetheless), the band found itself topping music charts, having sold millions of copies of their debut album, Sigh No More, worldwide.
One of the songs on this album, "Gravedigger" might stand out to one who has listened to the band before. Instead of displaying a hippie, live life to its fullest theme, the idea in this song is of life leading to death. The narrator, Dave, is introducing us in first person to four different people who are all in turn brought together by a gravedigger. Dave speaks to the gravedigger, although never answered, in the song by asking, " Will...
Fall Out Boy is originally from Chicago, Illinois and is composed of four members currently. Patrick Stump (vocals), Andrew Hurley (drums), Joe Trohman (guitar), and Pete Wentz (bass, lyricist) are the men who are responsible for that signature Fall Out Boy sound. The band started in 2001 in Chicago and played until 2008 where they went on hiatus. 2008 was a sad time for their fans because they were convinced they had stopped playing, when in 2013, Fall Out Boy surprised everyone with a new album called Save Rock and Roll which was appropriately named for the band when they tried to save their rock and roll career
The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.
Listening then, I just thought it sounded nice, but analyzing it today I can truly appreciate the care that went into their work. There aren’t many songs that give me chills, but every time I hear their rendition of Landslide (written by Stevie Nicks), I can feel it head to toe. The pacing of the instrumentation and harmony coming in is simply perfect.
Two years in the making, countless hours of songwriting, guitar tracking, recording, then multiple lawsuits by record companies and the end result is the masterpiece that is A Day To Remember’s Common Courtesy album. To most people, the entire genre of metal, hardcore, or punk music is all just one big idea of devil worshipping and ignorance, these misconceptions are so false it’s almost unfair. The detail and progression of the music in these genres is so advanced that it is devastating to musicians that most people don’t consider it music. A Day To Remember is the pinnacle of what melodic hardcore, or “pop-mosh” music is, they are the best musicians and make the biggest impact on the scene and the world. In a world that only focuses on what Miley Cyrus is doing and in a genre that is mainly only heard by angry heartbroken teenagers, ADTR has been able to solidify themselves into the musical world and that is what makes their new album “Common Courtesy” an iconic part of hardcore music.
One of my favourite bands of all time is Nirvana, because this was the first rock band I started listening to at the age of twelve and this established my taste of music until nowadays. However, they had a big influence on their contemporary pop-rock musical industry in the early nineties, as well. Despite the fact that they released only three studio albums in seven years, Nirvana is often regarded as one of the most influential, effective and remarkable rock bands of the century.
The song I have chosen is Shadow Of The Day by, Linkin Park. Many people when they hear this song it has a dark or sad feel to it, obviously, it says "the shadow of the day will embrace the world in gray and the sun will set for you." The song talks about death and how every day ends, but to me, I hear never waste a day living. We don't live forever, so once you are gone you are just another memory so make the best out of every
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
Two years ago in summer 2011 I was at Myötätuulirock with my friends listening to awesome bands, whilst really only knowing a few of them. It had been a fantastic day there, sun shining very bright coupled with awesome music, surely one of best days in my life. So there we were, waiting for the last band to play for the day, our favorite band of the time Ensiferum, but before that there were quite many bands that we had never heard of and one of them was Protest The Hero. They played quite fast tempo complex progressive metal that I instantly fell in love with and live performance! Even though my friends did not like the band's music at all just because of the singer has so broad vocal range which is in my opinion one of the best things they have in the band! It fits the band so perfectly while bringing so much personality and character to the band that Protest The Hero would be just another progressive metal band without their stunning vocalist, Rody Walker. I need to give credit to the other guys in the band of course too, they are all the masters of their instruments for sure! Luke Hoskin does the lead guitar for the band while Tim Millar does rhythm, they both play fantastic and come with the best melodies and riffs that I've heard and played! Bassist Arif Miradbolbaghi is surely on his own class to keep up with the complexity of the songs and Moe Carlson did write and play perfect drums for the songs, even though he moved onto studying in 2013 while Mike Ieradi taking his place in the band. After the summer 2011 I've been listening to Protest The Hero pretty much nonstop, their music just keep getting better and better the more you listen ...
