Different types of muscle within the muscular system include cardiac, skeletal, and smooth. The reason our bodies are capable of producing movement is because of the way our muscles contract. Our adult skeletal structure is made up of 206 bones that all differ in shapes and sizes. The composing parts that make up the system include the bones, joints, and muscles that all connect so we’re capable of moving. As technology improves and time on the computer increases, symptoms for these diseases begin to appear more frequently. Sitting on the computer for hours on end makes you prone to developing a musculoskeletal disease since you are not being active or exercising your muscles. Ardahan and Simsek (2015) analyze the interaction and affect on excessive computer work and disease in the musculoskeleton. Their study includes 490 participants who work in a government office in Turkey, and observe how their bodies were reacting to their work environment, excluding workers who are already struggling with pain coming from a previous disease. Results were taken from the experiment by filling out questionnaires that attempted to document the level of discomfort that they experienced. More than 25% were discovered to not take a break during their session on the computer, but found that the average amount of time spent on the computer was 7 hours. The workers recorded musculoskeletal pain symptoms mainly in the neck area and back. Age was not a determinant factor when it came to being more prone to experiencing these symptoms. In some of the results, it was found that women are more likely to have pain in certain areas in comparison to men, and overall dealt with more pain. The data from the study proved that the more use you get on the computer, the more likely you are to develop symptoms of a disorder in your musculoskeletal system. To ensure that you don’t suffer through the pain, the results show that taking breaks from long computer usage is beneficial. This case involved a 53 year old man who sustained a significant tear of his rotator cuff while playing baseball. He underwent surgical repair and was given a referral for physical therapy. The referral was to begin passive ROM 3 times per week for 2 weeks then initiate a supervised home program of active exercise for 2 weeks, and elastic resistance exercises for internal and external rotation every other day for a month. 2 weeks after surgery, he had his first PT visit in a sports medicine clinic that was managed by an athletic trainer (ATC).”

The musculoskeletal system can also be referred to as locomotive system. It mainly comprises of muscles, skeleton, tendons, cartilage, ligaments and joints. The musculoskeletal system supports the body, aids in movement of the body and protect the vital organs in the body.
There are five functions of the skeletal system. The five functions of the skeletal system are; provides shape and support, enable movement, protects organs, produces blood cells, and stores minerals. Without bones we would be very flat. We wouldn’t be able to stand or hold anything. We would just be muscle and skin. We would look like deflated balloons. Bones allow us to move. Joint allow bones to move. If we didn’t have joints and our body was one very long connected bone, then we would be very stiff. We would have to keep all of our body parts very straight. You wouldn’t be able to bend your elbow or your knee. It would be very hard to live without joints connecting bones. Bones also protect many vital organs. So, if you were to fall on your chest where your lungs are without bones, then your lungs would get damaged easily. With bones, the bone would take much of the impact so the organs wouldn’t get damaged. Bones produce blood cells in the marrow of the bone. Also, bones store minerals. Most bones store minerals and other materials that the body needs.
The human body is a complex network that has many organ systems designed for proper functioning. As the body ages over time, it also affects the effectiveness of these organ systems. One of the organ systems that demonstrates the most significant age-related changes have to be the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system provides the most obvious external signs of aging because its main function is to provide protection, support and movement of the muscles and bones (Aldwin). These functions are essential to the mobility and strength of the adult population in order to preserve their quality of life.

The musculoskeletal system is made up of bones, joints, and muscles. This system gives the body form and support, and protects the body while allowing it to move. Basically, the muscles in this system perform three important body functions: the movement of body parts, maintenance of body parts, and production of body heat. These muscles all consist of a mass of protein fibers grouped together, and most are of mesodermal origin. And almost all of the muscle fibers you will ever have or need were present at birth.
There are three different types of muscles in the body, and the first to be talked about are skeletal muscles. The body consists of about 640 skeletal muscles and they just so happen to be the only voluntary or (controlled) muscles. Their main function is to contract and expand so that your bones are able to move. Most skeletal muscles are attached to bones or joints so that the muscle can either expand or contract to create motion. They consist of band like fibers attached and bundled together that run along the bone. These fibers are held together by connective tissue called epimysium, which also protects the muscle. Skeletal muscle is what makes the body able to walk and move, without these skeletal muscles the body could not function properly because it would have nothing to rely on for stabilization and strength. There are 126 bones in the appendicular skeleton which are arms, legs, and trunk. The axial skeleton has 80 bones which are the head and the vertebrate. The role of bones help moves the body and give it shape. Important functions of the bone are support, protection, movement, mineral and growth factor storage, blood cell formation, fat storage, and hormone production (Marieb, Hoehn pp. 175). Bones support the body and keep the organs in place. Without the support, we would not be able to move our limbs.

People are therefore spending long working hours in the workplace, which is an aspect that has negative impact on their health conditions. Statistics from Working Condition Survey indicates that approximately 30% of workers residing in European Union believe that their health is at risk due to the hours they spent in the workplace (Gurung, 2010:16)
For my I-Search topic I chose to research health related issues due to increased computer usage both in the work and home settings. Computer technology is becoming commonplace in the work field. As a teacher, I use the computer to present topics to my students, enter grades, send email to co-workers and parents, and to post homework assignments on the Internet. Ten years ago, teachers and other professionals used computers on a limited basis. I became interested in the side effects caused by prolonged usage of computers since several family members complain of wrist soreness as well as eyestrain due to the effects of monitor radiation.

Computers have their weaknesses like they have a negative effect on individuals' health. One of the risky parts of any machine is the screen. Computers make individuals dependent. Computers are hampering individuals' improvement in regular life. We don't read printed books any longer, since we can listen and read on the web. We invest more of a chance talking online than talking face to face. Overuse of machines has numerous negative impacts, for example, creating physical/behavioral sicknesses, harming family connections and diminishing scholarly study.
