Recommended: Consequences of multiple births
Introduction
In this project multiple births will be discussed in depth. The main focus will be on the cause of all types of multiple births. The following questions will be answered, what causes multiple births? Is it natural? What is the maximum amount of children you can have at one pregnancy and is it harmful?
What is the problem?
The problem is that a lot of people think that the only type of multiple births is identical twins. Some even believe that kids from one birth have identical finger prints and they are born at the same time. This is a problem because these statements are myths and there are a lot of myths about multiple births. Therefore I will be explaining the real facts about multiple births in order to eliminate these myths.
Some women have also been trying to conceive multiples but they do not know how to increase their chances of getting multiples and the risks they could go through when conceiving multiples. The risks of conceiving multiples will be discussed and also the ways to increase the chances of conceiving multiples.
What are multiple births?
Multiple births is when two or more children are born by the same pregnancy. These children can be identical (monozygotic) or fraternal (dizygotic). Multiple births doesn’t only mean twins or triplets, there can be four children from the same birth or even more. There are a few things that can increase the chances of conceiving multiples; 1) women can start eating hyper-ovulation stimulating foods such as dairy products and wild yams. 2) They can try getting pregnant in between their 30’s and 40’s mostly the age of 35. 3) Seeking fertility assistance can help and 4) increase intake of folic acid (www.newhealthguide.org, 23/01/2013).

...think because some twins can finish each other’s sentences, they can sometimes feel each other’s pan and identify each other’s thoughts they have a “twin telepathy”. This is a myth because this can happen with any two people; close siblings, husband and wife, close friends who have shared experiences, genetic similarities and a close bond.
5) Twins have the same parents: this is true in most cases but twins can have different fathers if a woman has intercourse with two men at a very short period of time then sperm from each man fertilises an egg.

Twins are truly fascinating from the time of separation of the embryo to birth; and still the complexity of twinning is not yet fully understood among the scientific world. Scientists have studied the human body from the time of prenatal development to birth, and still are in awe of the formation of twins. Research in twinning is ever more increasing in this field, leadi...
It is true that identical twins have many similarities, but people tend to ignore their differences. The Jim twins, for example, may
Conjoined twins have one major cause, which makes them conjoined. When an egg is produced and is fertilized by sperm, 3 things can happen, the egg can grow and form only one fetus, the egg can split and form identical twins (triplets) or the egg can partially split and grow into conjoined twins. Usually identical twins are formed during the first 12 days after the conception date, but when the process happens the 13th or 14th day, the egg doesn’t fully se...
Twenty years ago, twin births were radically lower, with twins being more frequent than other multiple births. With technology becoming more advanced and people who normally have problems becoming pregnant can use in vitro fertilization, people delaying motherhood, and survival rate increasing; having twin children is not as rare as it was thought to be in the past. Twin birth rates have increased 42% from 1980 to 1994 (Lytton, Singh, & Gallagher, 1995).
Birth is a normal, physiological process, in which a woman’s body naturally prepares to expel the fetus within. It has occurred since the beginning of time. Unfortunately, childbirth has gradually evolved into what it is today - a highly managed whirlwind of unwarranted interventions. Jennifer Block, a journalist with over twelve years experience, has devoted herself to raising awareness regarding the authenticity of the Americanized standard of care in obstetrics, while guiding others to discover the truth behind the medical approach to birth in this country. In her book, Pushed: The Painful Truth About Childbirth and Modern Maternity Care, Jennifer Block brings forth startling truths concerning this country’s management of birth.
All over the world, there are many different medical cases discovered. There are very rare ones and some common ones as well, we often see them everyday or on television shows. An example of one of these cases would be the Hensel twins, they are conjoined twins.Conjoined twins are very rare, that occur once in every 200,000 live births.Which means that most people in their lifetime will never get a chance to meet conjoined twins. Many people question how to categorize conjoined twins, most just categorize them as humans. A human is just continuity of life to be the same human, while a person is rational, moral and agent. John Locke puts the twins in thought when speaking of the Day-Man and Night- Man, a man with one body with
Many couples who are infertile can not handle the financial responsibility of multiple children. If a couple has seven children in one pregnancy, the financial strain can lead to chaos. There were only three sets of living septuplets in the United States in 1997, according to the Knight-Ridder's journalist Tracy A.

When a child is born in doubles it symbolizes good fortune for the family. They believe that since the two were born together they both have great knowledge of each other. Therefore they have the ability to be able to connect with each other on a stronger level. The twins also have the capability to communicate on a spiritual level considering that one is supernatural.
There is no link between anything the mother does or doesn’t do during her pregnancy to cause Apert. Doctors believe Apert Syndrome occurs when a gene mutates early in the pregnancy. The chances of having a second child with Apert are almost non-existent. However if one parent has Apert Syndrome there is a 50% chance that their child will also have Apert Syndrome. And studies have shown that Apert occurs more often to babies with older fathers.
An important scientific argument for IVF is that, by studying fertilization and early embryonic development outside the womb, scientists might learn more about how to prevent certain birth defects (1). This proves that IVF could actually make improvements in medical advances, especially in regards to prenatal care. This is just one example of how IVF can actually be beneficial to the community. The only times that babies are malformed or sick are when the mother puts more than one baby in her uterus. Multiple fetuses increase the chance of birth defects because they have a greater chance of preterm birth, which is associated with long-term health. The long-term illnesses are cerebral palsy, mental illness, and blindness (Reddy 1). With this in mind, having single births is very safe and those babies are still healthy today, just like Sarah and Maggie Marshall’s baby. Single births are also very highly recommended by medical personnel. Going back to the first test tube baby the Browns were expecting, and Steptoe (the doctor) thought that this baby would be a failure. When they did a cesarean on July 25, 1978, a beautiful baby girl was born at 5 pounds and 12 ounces. After the baby was born, the doctor recalled that

What would it be like to have a twin? This is a question people often ponder. People often say that they see someone that resembles someone they already know. “Twin” comes from the German word “twine” meaning “two together”. Most people automatically think of two people who look just alike when they hear the word “twin”. However, there is a lot more to twins than just looking alike. Twins are the most common type of multiple births. Many think there are only two types of twins, identical and fraternal, they often leave out conjoined twins. Twins are very unique and fascinating individuals because of their similarities biologically, physically, and psychologically.
A multiple birth is the culmination of one multiple pregnancy, wherein the mother delivers two or more offspring. A term most applicable to placental species, multiple births occur in most kinds of mammals, with varying frequencies. Each single fertilized egg (zygote) may produce a single embryo, or it may split into two or more embryos, each carrying the same genetic material. Quadruplets are much rarer than twins or triplets. As of 2007, there were approximately 3500 sets recorded worldwide. Quadruplet births are becoming increasingly common due to fertility treatments. There are around 70 sets of all-identical quadruplets worldwide. Many sets of quadruplets contain a mixture of identical and fraternal siblings, such as three identical and one fraternal, two identical and two fraternal, or two pairs of
