They lose their power to make a statement. They give in to the idea that they do not have a say or can not do something.

According to my Aunt, “people believe what they think, so if they think they do not have the power to do something, they won’t try to do it. In other words, by thinking you can’t do something, you have already given up” (Stone). When you have a closed mind, you aren’t open to try other things.
A century ago, women couldn’t vote because they weren’t allowed to. These days, everyone can vote, no matter his or her race, gender, or religion. However, some people choose not to vote because they don’t think they can.
