Managing emotions is difficult when you are in solidarity. Retaining emotions of regret, sadness, happiness and anger is difficult. In this day in age, many young adults turn to music to assist in improving emotions. This article explains how music is an outlet for many young adults, due to the fact that music has the ability to relate to their situations. “Mood management” is a big phrase in this article. They explain that many adolescents use music to boost emotions, sympathise with them, and cope with issues in their lives. Kate Havner, a woman who studied the theory of mus and emotions, found that music can be categorized in the following ways: “calm”, “leisurely”, “lyrical”, “ponderous”, “quiet”, “serene”, “satisfying”, and “tranquil”. Music is used in these eight ways for many adolescents.

They recorded their education level, age, gender, how often they listened to music, how important music was to them, and their music preferences. The results revealed that 69.4% of the participants used music to console them. Depression and loneliness was a high indicator that the person was listening to music to find consolation and oneness. The lyrics of a song are how most people find themselves relating and using the music to feel better. Participants found comfort in the lyrics because they felt a togetherness with the artist and the fans of the artist. Depressed, anxious and angered participants seeked more consolation in the music; however the results suggested no difference between the rest of the factors they factored in. Sad listeners listen to the lyrics and find hope in the little details in the sad music over listening to happy music to improve their attitude.
