Reverse Monsterfication
Throughout the length of the movie, I was taken back to my childhood when there were monsters in my own closet. Over the years, the monsters have all died and been replaced by just as scary skeletons, so my closet is still full. However, to a young child monsters are still lurking in the shadows, and they still make the floor creak. The approach taken by the writers of this film is one of uniqueness and of originality. By successfully juxtaposing the situation between monster and child, the writers were able to confront a touchy subject head on. This was reached through a combination of differences represented by the monsters in the movie and between the child’s impression of monsters in real life. We all know that in real life, to a child, monsters can be very real, intimidating, and extremely terrifying. The monsters in the movie are shown to be emotional creatures, with feelings and concerns. Appropriately enough, the largest monster named Sullivan is best friends with one of the smallest monsters named Mike. Sullivan the bear, being the largest and scariest of monsters, turns out to be the one with the largest heart and concern for the well being of a small human girl he names Boo. The movie also shows us that the monsters are actually at work, earning money. Not only are they at work, but they also have a society, relationships, and an apparent chain of leadership and authority. To top it off, the monsters are more s...
Cohen closes his first thesis with this sentence, explaining the monster's ability to be full of energy because of the different secrets that surround the world; when the secrets are revealed, the fear comes to life. Monsters have the ability to change as time goes on, though they are never actually gone from our society. Instead of the monster being erased is merely shifted, "monster are our children"(Cohen, 466), claiming that they are a part of us. Reassuring us that we fear this because it is a part of our
Jeffery Cohen's first thesis states “the monster's body is a cultural body”. Monsters give meaning to culture. A monsters characteristics come from a culture's most deep-seated fears and fantasies. Monsters are metaphors and pure representative allegories. What a society chooses to make monstrous says a lot about that society’s people. Monsters help us express and find our darkest places, deepest fears, or creepiest thoughts. Monsters that scare us,vampires, zombies, witches, help us cope with what we dread most in life. Fear of the monstrous has brought communities and cultures together. Society is made up of different beliefs, ideas, and cultural actions. Within society there are always outcasts, people that do not fit into the norm or do not follow the status quo. Those people that do not fit in become monsters that are feared almost unanimously by the people who stick to the status quo.
In order to scare us, books, movies, and television shows will take the most ordinary things and make it into a monster. For instance, the movie IT takes a clown and turns it into
Going to the Shedd Aquarium was such a fun and interesting experience. Now I can always remember going to the Shedd Aquarium with my sister because of the picture and the snow globe with dolphins in it that I got from the gift shop. We were lucky because we got the last dolphin snow globe the rest of them were sharks. This was a great way for my sister and I to spend time together and I really hope we can do it again

Watching a pre-pubescent or adolescent vampire/werewolf changes our idea of what a monster is because of the position these characters are in. Typically, the pre-pubescent/adolescent characters are changed into these beings without their consent, and they often face more challenges then adult monsters because they have more obstacles to go through. For example, most of these young characters are still in school. So not only are they going through abnormal changes, but they also need to keep up with school and hide it from all their peers. They have a higher chance of hurting someone or being caught because they are surrounded by people for at least 8 hours in school. Another factor that makes it hard to view the young characters as monsters

Overpopulation is earth’s biggest problem that needs to be solved. At a surprising rate, the earth’s population has been growing exponentially, and in more than a hundred years’ time it will rise to 12 billion people. Regarding this population growth, a lot of factors must be considered, such as cultural influences and Illiteracy. Solutions might be available, but do you believe that your chosen solution is best for you based on your preferences. As a result, we are now left with both a question and a choice “What do you think is the best solution in order to combat overpopulation and will you stick to moral teachings or follow what the experts would say?”
The size of population tends to exceed the environmental resources an area can sustain because of increased birth rate, lowered death rates and increased migrations. Consequently, the over populated world encounters global crisis such as global warming, depletion of natural resources, unemployment and slower economic development. A report from The Nation, talks of overpopulation in the world in the following manner.
Overpopulation is a major challenge that humans face today. The human population is close to 8 billion, and at our current birthrate, we are adding nearly one billion more people every 12 years. Issues including depending on natural resources, degradation of the environment, poverty, unemployment and other dangerous effects which are extremely likely to effect the human race as a cause of overpopulation.
For more than fifty years and counting, Paul R. Ehrlich has been alerting people to the importance of overpopulation and the threats that it may pose. In his 1968 best seller, The Population Bomb, biologist Paul Ehrlich more specifically declared, "In the 1970s and 1980s, hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now." Famines on that scale never arrived. The most important question in this essay is what are the threats that overpopulation will pose? Poverty is one main problem, if the number of people exceeds the capacity of the environment or habitat then there will be a huge number of demands and not all the people will have their needs fulfilled, and countries will be unable
