Leaving Maycomb and my friends was really tough, but I believe my new parents will be will be better than my parents in Maycomb. A few weeks have passed and my new parents are nice, but I don't think I can stay with them. They both have been busy and they don't have time for me. So I decided to pack my bags and leave back to Maycomb tomorrow morning. So after I packed my bags I decided to take a shower and brush my teeth for bed since tomorrow will be a long ride back. 8:30 AM hit and it was time for me to get ready to go to the train station,so I grabbed my bags and got into a taxi. When I made it to the train station, the train had also been there so I didn’t need to wait. The ride from Meridian back to Maycomb was 24 hours and I had forgotten …show more content…
She had proceeded to tell me about her family and how it’s been six months since she had went back home Maycomb to see her family. She had asked me why I was alone on the train heading to Maycomb, so I had told her that I didn't receive the attention I wanted from my new parents and decided to go back to Maycomb and be with my girl Scout and Jem. I had spent a solid three hours talking to Liza so I had decided to back to my seat and take a nap. When I had woken from my nap I didn't realize it was 5:00 AM. I had been surprised that I had slept thru the day and that there was three hours left till I had made to Maycomb. I had really started to think where I will go when I get back, I definitely wasn’t gonna go back to my parents house or my …show more content…
I hear footsteps coming upstairs, so I went under Scout's bed to hide. When she made it into her room, I had made a sound and Scout had caught me right under her bed. When she first seen me she had called Jem over to her room. Jem had called Atticus which is their father. When he had came into Scout’s room he, had asked me why I was in her room. I told him the story about my new parents and how I didn't get enough attention. I also had told him that I was not willing to go to my parents house or my aunts house. Atticus had understood my struggle and contacted my aunt to tell her I would be staying over there house. Soon as Atticus got off the phone, I had asked him if he had food I Could eat. So he had sent Scout downstairs to get me food and when she came back with the food I had felt like I was in food heaven.First I needed to thank the Finches for having me feel welcomed into their home and how Scout and Jem treat me as one of their siblings. It had hit midnight and I decided to go to sleep and have a long day tomorrow. I am really thankful for Scout and Jem, they treat me like i'm one of their siblings, I am really thankful for their
She picked a seat in the way back, away from all the people. She silently stared out the window making a quiet list inside her head of all the things she had forgotten and all the people she remembered. Tears silently slid down her face as she remembered her aunt crying and cousins afraid of the dark in their house. She couldn’t do it anymore. It was the best for everyone she thought. Deep down though she knew how hard it would be for everyone to find out she was leaving. From her family’s tears, to the lady in the grocery store who was always so kind and remembered her name. She also knew how
First of all, I’d like to say sorry for all the things that Scout and I have done. We behaved badly by trying to make you come out of the house. Such as when we gave you a letter to let you know that we want you to go out of your house, even if you do not want to, but Atticus caught us, when I’m going to slip the paper in your window he took it from me and read it. He told me to stop bothering you because Atticus thought that we’re making fun of you, but we’re not, we just want you to go out and have fun with us.
Tom Robinson, a victim of his time, is at the mercy of the men on a jury stand, defended only by the eloquence of Atticus Finch, his lawyer. Atticus’ statement to the jury is a solemn appeal to their morality; employing antithesis and anaphora as his primary tools, his argument focuses less on the defendant than it does on the people deciding his future, the men of the jury. From the first word, Atticus refers to the jurors as ¨gentlemen, ¨ a title which he repeats throughout his speech. Addressing them in this way, he grants them a level of moral superiority, scrutinizing them from a finer lense, and imposing on them an obligation to uphold their title. In his conclusion, Atticus entrusts them with a burden to abandon society’s conditioning, and concede the innocence of Tom, a black man.

“You’ll never leave” is carved faintly into the brick wall of the small jail cell, probably from its last guest. Every day, I started to believe the phrase more and more. I lay on the uncomfortable cot, pretending to be asleep. I’m lonely, but I’m not alone. I can hear him breathing and slowly flipping the pages of the newspaper; I assume it’s Mr. Heck Tate.
Throughout the books Huckleberry Finn, Othello, and To Kill a Mockingbird certain characters challenge what the status quo was at that time. They go against what the norm was and go against what other characters think. This causes controversy and is a major part of the plot in all three books. The main way that these 3 books challenge the status quo for that time is through race. Many of the characters are against what is viewed as normal and have views that were known as radical at that time. The main way their views are different is certain white characters view black people in the books in a positive way and are willing to associate themselves with them even though that is against what most people thought was right. Throughout each
“Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird” (Lee 94). This quote, delivered in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, introduces the mockingbird which is incorporated symbolically throughout the novel. The mockingbird, in presenting its gifts of music and beauty, is the symbol of Atticus’s practice of altruism because he believes in society’s responsibility to protect those who are vulnerable and innocent.
Modes of Communication in To Kill a Mockingbird Effective communication is a result of the utilization of different techniques to convey a particular idea or perspective. Different methods used to express a person's feelings are found throughout society and aid in creating a learned individual, family, and community. In the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird, Harper Lee uses several modes of communication to display her feelings on moral, political, and social issues. Lee's tactics parallel those used by one character in her novel, Atticus Finch. In order to express his feelings to his children, Atticus uses three simple teaching devices; the use of examples, verbal statements, and learning through experience.
The story is told by Scout through her eyes, and thoughts. The story takes place in Maycomb County. Scout and Jem went to school and didn’t start ...
Dear diary, things have been awful different 'round here lately with them Finch kids running amuck. I can see them playin' outside when I sit by the window. There's something about them... Maybe they remind me of myself when I was young. The other day the older one, Jem I think his name is? Anyway The batch of them came around here the other day and Jem came right up to touch the house. I know they think I'm a monster or some sort, but I just wanna keep 'em safe. My pa here ain't the kind of man to take kindly to curious little ones creeping 'round here, no, he wouldn't like that at all. And then there's the girl, Scout I've heard 'em call her. They're a nice distraction if they ain't nothing else. It's been a right long time since I've been around other people, seeing them takes my mind off all the other stuff, all the memories. They're just so tiny, so innocent. The don't know all the bad stuff 'bout life, and somehow I don't want 'em to. They're proper children, and I wanna keep them that way. They're the only hope, the only light I've seen in an awful long time... And like any light that ya might have in the dark, I ain't gonna let it die out. That's just they way they are when they're young, all innocent and unknowing of the world and it's evil... I think of 'em as lil candles, flickering in wind, unknowing of danger.
The world’s greatest innovator Steve Jobs once said, ”Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” Whenever someone explains what courage is, a person’s definition would be about overcoming fear or having bravery. Despite that, courage can be an individual handling what society is asking from them and going by what their hearts say and dealing with their own problems. This concept comes into play in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, where several of Lee’s characters experience courage by going against societal means. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee connects the characters going through their own conviction to show her theme that courage is going against society’s beliefs and handling one’s situation.
In previous eras, anti-Black sentiment was widely acknowledged and sometimes encouraged in the United States. Black litigants have endured a long history of racist attitudes and inequality in the criminal justice system To this day, it is impossible to determine if jurors present an unbiased trial for the defendants regardless of their racial background. Although the undercurrent of racism may continue to be present in modern juries, racial prejudice in the modern legal system is certainly less flagrant as many.
We stood and watched as the dark figures got out of the dusty cars and moved towards Atticus and Tom Robinson’s cell. I had a theory of what they were trying to do: kill the accused. It’s not common for a group of men to be going to the jail in the middle of the night dressed in such a way. I was sure that they wanted to commit an act of lynching when they put the sheriff into this. The men wanted Atticus to draw back, but I knew he isn’t that kind of person.
Scout Finch, the youngest child of Atticus Finch, narrates the story. It is summer and her cousin Dill and brother Jem are her companions and playmates. They play all summer long until Dill has to go back home to Maridian and Scout and her brother start school. The Atticus’ maid, a black woman by the name of Calpurnia, is like a mother to the children. While playing, Scout and Jem discover small trinkets in a knothole in an old oak tree on the Radley property. Summer rolls around again and Dill comes back to visit. A sence of discrimination develops towards the Radley’s because of their race. Scout forms a friendship with her neighbor Miss Maudie, whose house is later burnt down. She tells Scout to respect Boo Radley and treat him like a person. Treasures keep appearing in the knothole until it is filled with cement to prevent decay. As winter comes it snows for the first time in a century. Boo gives scout a blanket and she finally understands her father’s and Miss Maudie’s point of view and treats him respectfully. Scout and Jem receive air guns for Christmas, and promise Atticus never to shoot a mockingbird, for they are peaceful and don’t deserve to die in that manner. Atticus then takes a case defending a black man accused of rape. He knows that such a case will bring trouble for his family but he takes it anyways. This is the sense of courage he tries to instill in his son Jem.
Imagine being in a countryside and it is spring time. There are lush green trees on both sides of the road and space between them is filled with different kinds of bushes. There are pathways from the road, leading to the houses where the bushes have been cleared. The air is fresh and calm. No mobiles, no vehicles, just the sound of wind in your ears. You are a 6-year-old girl, full of energy running without any reason. You are thinking about nothing in particular and looking curiously everywhere. That’s what “To Kill a Mockingbird” is, it is a beautiful summer in a book.
