In life, your wishes reflect on your true self. If your wishes are pure, you have a good soul. However, if you are greedy, your true self is revealed. We are going to be analyzing character choices, the mood, and the theme. The character choices in both stories impact the mood and outcome of the story. In The Monkey’s Paw, the wife didn’t think through “Get back to bed,” he said, his voice shaking. “You don’t know what you are saying.” This shows that the wife didn’t think it through to get her son back. This is significant because it shows one of the examples of how the couple didn’t think it through. The wife felt grief and wanted their son back and made her husband wish him back “She almost fell as she came hurried across the room toward him. “I want it,” she said quietly.” This shows how out of sorts she was and how much she wanted her son back. This is significant because it demonstrates the mindset the wife and the husband had at the time. The main character in The Third Wish has a healthy mindset. An example is that he had a more serious and thoughtful idea about what he would want instead of going straight to money. “He knew very well that the gift of three magic wishes was one which brought trouble more often than not.”This shows that he knew the dangers of not being careful of what you wish. This is significant because it shows or foreshadows the rest of the story in a …show more content…

“For a time he thought that all would be well, but then he saw how thin and pale she was growing.” This shows the somberness of the story by describing the state that Leita was in because of her sadness. “But for all that he looked sadly over towards the forest where Leita had flown, and walked slowly back to his empty house.” This shows the wistfulness he felt when he transformed her back into a swan. He felt happy that she was happy, but sad to see the woman he had grown to love go. These sentences are significant because they paint the story how the author intends the story to be read. The themes in the two stories look similar but are very different. In The Monkey’s Paw, the theme is sometimes in life you have to be careful with your words. This is shown by the text.“I wish for two hundred pounds,” said the old man clearly.” and “Two hundred pounds,” was the answer. Without hearing his wife’s scream, the old man smiled weakly, put out his hands like a blind man, and fell, a senseless mass, to the floor.” This shows that the man was not specific on how they would gain the two hundred
