Narcisstic/Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders A study taken in 2007 said that 9.1% of people meet the criteria for a certain personality disorder (Eddy/Kreger 2014). The personality disorders that are going to be discussed and related to the movie Mommie Dearest is narcissism and obsessive compulsive disorders. People who are narcissistic need admiration from others, but lack empathy for others. Narcissistic people have a very fragile self-esteem and also are very vulnerable. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder also called OCD is an anxiety disorder, when people have repeated thoughts about obsessions. Actress Faye Dunaway plays the role of Joan Crawford, who adopts two children from the local orphanage. Christina who is played by Diana Scarwid was Joan’s adopted daughter. As Christina got older Joan got jealous that she wasn’t the only one getting attention. Joan was a very successful actress, until her age caught up with her then work was hard for her to find. Christina never had a father figure and as Joan went through men Christina also liked the attention from them, starting at a young age and Joan would express her feelings in a physical way. As Christina aged she began to rebel against her mother, but her mother did not put up with that.
