While, in other countries having a baby or babies as a teen is valued. Many teens are not ready to have children: financially, mentally, and psychologically. In such a way, the analogy can be made that having a baby as a teen is like obtaining a criminal record in terms of finding a job, looking for a spouse, getting an education, and the simple fact that it only takes one mistake to change your life permanently. One resemblance between having a baby versus having a criminal record affects your chances of finding a job or career. Most jobs look for availability, if you have a child you do not have a wide range of availability causing the employer to hire the person with more availability. Having a criminal record can hurt your chances of getting a job due to the fact that most jobs will not hire you if you have a criminal background. Secondly, having a baby while you are young or having a criminal record can make dating or finding a spouse difficult. Most guys that are young or not looking for a commitment do not want to fool around with a young woman that has a child due to the fact that the child could find themselves attached to a person they think may be their father. While, having a criminal record may make the other person feel that you are untrustworthy. Thirdly, being a young parent or having a criminal record can make getting an education hard. Being a full-time or part-time student and a parent is difficult because of time purposes. If you cannot find someone to watch your child or your child is ill, you will have to miss class. Also, doing schoolwork while taking care of your child can be rough because they can get into all your paperwork and possibly delete files if they are playing with your computer. According to a factsheet by The Sentencing Project (2012), more than 200,000 women are incarcerated, including those in local jails. In addition, out of these 200,000 women “1 in 25 women in state prisons and 1 in 33 in federal prisons are pregnant when admitted to prison.” Due to their sentencing, many of these women are forced to give birth while incarcerated. Then days later are separated from their newborn to finish their sentencing. More mothers end up in jails than fathers, and men do not have to worry about bringing their future child into a jail cell like many women do.
